    43:25 I think he meant to say .01 and not 0.1 PO4. Just didn’t want anybody to overdose with PO4. See below: 👇🏼
    1:100 equates to every 1 ppm NO3 you would have .01 ppm PO4
    Example N:P: 1 : .01 | 3 : .03 | 5 : .05 | 8 : .08 | 10 : 0.1

    I will never in a million years EVER go dry rock again. My 15 gallon is the most unsuccessful tank I have ever had and it’s the first time I ever went with dry rock. Never again.

    This was a home run!! Certainly some good information here. Basic and straight to the point information on what methods work. Save this one for when you need it. :-)

      @@ReefDudes Thank you so much. I don't really have a special request. I think I have watched virtually every video you have over the last three months. Perhaps one debating barebottoms vs sand beds and alternatives. I am planning on remaining barebottom but I am torn. I understand the advantages of a sand bed but the problems it brings eventually. I am setting up a large refugium but don't know if that bridges the gap. But honestly, I have yet to find a video from you that I don't learn something new. Thank you

    Great Video! You dominate my playlist for "Reef Info" You get the right experts and cover the right details that matter on that topic.
    1. What did you mean when you said "if you're worried about the water thing...you can siphon out what you can through a filter sock" what water thing?
    2. Is there an order for when you add bacteria like waste away? Right away or after cleaning surfaces and running uv & h202? Because it says to turn off uv when dosing it and I'm sure it doesnt reccomend peroxide.
    3. My 40watt uv is part of my return on my 90gal.. is it that important to go in & out of display that I should do a temp plumbing change? & wierd that he says slow 3x flow & pentair says 925-1500 which is 10x for average tank sizes. ?
    4. He mentioned he uses a pump w filter floss to collect..just after saying 5 micron is needed. Is filter floss that low of micron?
    Thanks Devon!

    thank you, new things to try. I would agree about coral die off as a trigger. 6 year tank and had a sudden die off of zoo and mushroom, then dinos.

    Absolutely brilliant talk, Iv just beat some dinos on my sand bed! My nitrates bottomed out and I had to bring them back up again.My fault for not doing nitrate tests on a regular basis.

    Wouldn't be better to have the UV return/outlet to you sump & catch DINOS in the roller or skimmer? I understand have the PUMP in the display. Thoughts?

    Lighting....no. Ultra low nutrients yes. We did not see the outbreaks with leds. We did see the rise with ultra low nutrients.

    I had been using chemi elite and being a newbie at the time didn't realize how much it lowered my phospates so I had an imbalance with high nitrates and very low po4. My nitrates got very high after I added to many corals within a few weeks like 30, so I went from 0 to 30 in 2 weeks. Mostly frags but I also increased lightening. My tank is about 8 to 9 months old. It started showing up in sand bed and rocks after using nopox to lower the nitrates. Funny thing is I have done this coffee strainer test like 5 times and keep passing it. My question is do diatoms clump in the sand bed? When I try to vacuum or turkey baste them out it gets clumpy and I suck up clumps! Dost have bubbles or the look of dinos. Also can you spread from one tank to another by using same turkey baster, syringe for testing ect? I am so baffled as to what I have! It is now showing up in other tank as well, but had same imbalance at one time and dosed nopox to. I am going to try chemiclean and see what happens, maybe its cyano.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  3 роки тому

      I find diatoms to be dusty, (atleat tyhe ones i have had) It "may" be dino. if its clumpy, or "snotty" crazy things that happen when the balance is thrown off!

    • @karennation3580
      @karennation3580 3 роки тому

      @@ReefDudes I think it may have changed from diatoms to dino because it didint used to be clumpy, I dont think. Pretty sure I was able to vacuum out and they would comeback. Strange thing is he said that diatoms could outcompete them so dosnt make sense how that could happen. During all this time of the imbalance and then dosing nopox I also added another light so lighting was stronger. Crazy thing is no matter how much I dose of phosphates and feed cant get phos or nitrates up when I used to have a heck of a time getting them down. So since I have chemiclean on the way I will try that first. Next step would be a microscope! I do notice besides it getting clumpy now its getting stringy on the glass with bubbles attached to them. No bubbles attached on sand bed! Starting to grow on some coral as well, dont know if diatoms do that! I also wonder why it dosnt clump back up when I do the coffee filter test! I would have begun treatment along time ago If I would have failed that test. I have repeated it so many times as well so just assumed it was diatoms and it would go away. What makes diatoms go away?
