  • Welcome to Crimson Guitars www.youtube.co... and welcome to Episode 34 of the Clarity series of videos. This guitar is based on a Robert Fripp design.
In this episode, Ben makes a headstock with a veneer in keeping with the rest of the ethos of the guitar, going for the understated elegance of Ebony. He also cuts the truss rod access and glues and clamps the Ebony to the headstock.
This Video series with Ben Crowe at Crimson Guitars in the UK
(www.crimsonguit...) became the backbone of the Crimson Guitars online tutorials for a few years.
Please note that this series was filmed in 2013 when Ben was still working out of a shed at the bottom of his garden. This means that some of Ben's techniques and opinions have since changed, however, much of the content is still relevant so we hope that you will benefit from this series and the updated links.
    Thank you for watching.

Can you please do a detailed video about the final setup of this guitar? I'd love to see how you go about adjusting the truss rod, setting the intonation and getting the nut heights perfect on a brand new guitar.

Aha!!! The infamous polyurethane quote retracted 18/02/2016! Great stuff. Always like your work Ben. You will have to build me a guitar in the near future :-)

Are there any issues created by using a truss rod cover held in place by magnets? The headstock would be covered by a three piece metal 'veneer' (I know veneer means wood) with a center strip help in place by magnets in the headstock. The two outside 'veneers' would be glued on and under the tuning posts. When access is needed, the center strip would simply be pushed away from the nut.

If only you had the Hegner when building this instrument. You could have cut the truss rod cap on an angle so it would fall perfectly in place. I love the little laminated detail in the neck.

Can you do more videos on making multiscales? The fretting a multiscale was nice however I am curious as to how to set out the pickups, bridge etc.
