As a African American who lived in Japan also, I personally had no issues with Japanese people, but I also know all of them were not friendly to black people, I lived there 2.5 years. I never felt it was my duty to encroach my culture on Japanese people, or try to make them understand me and my culture. It was always accept me as I am or don't. And I never thought to live in Japan no matter how good it is. I'm African American, I needed to be in my own country fighting for justice and to make things better and not run away from it. On the front line in America is where I belonged regardless. I loved Japan and the girls over there, I was military and had many Japanese friends, but I could never live there, my purpose was not there. I needed to be home to influence and lift up young people, to help them be better people. America needed me more than Japan.

In terms of dating Asian men, Black women would do well to approach a guy they suspects like them first.
I know some Black women feels as though the guy should approach them first, I respect that but it’s not always an ideal approach. Sometimes the more aggressive guys are sleazy and the nicer ones are shy. Waiting to be approached might mean you miss out on the nicer ones.

At least in Japan, there are no Japanese who unleash overtly harsh words or show insulting gestures towards black people. @Agni Kai Sama Yes most of them. Many people on that side of the world are very anti-black except for a few individuals here and there. Many if not most romanticize everything that white people want you to know about them and their countries. I’ve witnessed many people engage and rationalize racist behavior, imagery, and talking points throughout my time in Korea and Japan. Many people and their government participate in “white supremacy”(not extremism) both in their countries and here in the west, but some individuals I’ve met are not like that at all and are very exceptional people. Honestly I would suggest talking to honest people who’ve lived there for some time to tell you about certain experiences because sometimes these videos don’t do us any justice when it comes to our issues and experiences in these countries.

My sister-in-law’s cousin married a woman from Okinawa while he was in the Navy. He lived in Japan until he was medically discharged from the Navy.
Black culture in Japan is not common, but it is something that younger people explore with music, hairstyles, fashion. I think the Japanese people recognize the strength in the black culture. Of course, there is the negative stigma associated with a few in the black culture. Naturally, it doesn’t apply to every black person.
A relationship other than friendship can work out, but it takes some patience. If a Japanese person doesn’t feel pressured or threatened, then, they will be your friend. However, may be wrong. I have a desire to go to Japan, one day. It is my childhood dream destination(thanks to Godzilla and friends, anime, manga and NHK News).

I spoke to a group of 5 Asian women last year and ask them to honestly rate men for dating. They rated white men first because they associated them with money and being generous. Black men were rated 2nd. They liked the fact that black men were good at telling jokes and had strong body figures. Asian men were rated last. They perceived them to be short and boring.
So a black man with a lot of money would be really attractive for an Asian women overseas. (Sadly many Asian women here in the U.S . are being brainwashed and many have developed prejudices.)

My experience was that fundamentally (like interviewee implied) Japanese have more in common with the African diaspora than Europeans. Can see this in music, customs and many aspects of the culture. Recall a Japanese musician at a Zushi beach event commenting about the possible ancient links between Africa and Asia (Japan). The ripple thru the audience was interesting. And I took it as ppl pretentiously aping the West and getting things twisted. America is the most powerful nation on earth and so that power somewhat transcends to it's citizens.
The Fact of the matter, esp in the case of Asia is, if you are a Black Man or Woman Who is a Citizen of the United States(or even other so called western countries)......your "Americaness" to some extent can make up for the shortfalls of just being viewed as an ordinary Black person.
Chances are you are gonna be associated with Black American Culture which is adored in Asia...Things Like the NBA, Hip-Hop And other spheres of black culture which have created a positive stereotype about Black folk esp in Asia
Try being a Black man from little known 🇿🇼Zimbabwe, in Africa such as myself and you will realise that different black people from different parts of the world are not given equal reception. If you are Black and hail from any African country, you prolly gonna have it worse in Asia because to them all 1 Billion people on the African continet are all "poor and poverty stricken".....They consume so much of that negative and unbalanced coverage of Africa in the media, they automatically believe their source of Information concerning Africa(This is the same imagery about Africa that people in Europe, America, Australia and Arabia all get to see)
The hypocrisy of it all is we love to bash asians, and whites(not all of them)for their Anti-Black/Anti-African sentiments, when Black people(not all of them)who are not from Africa exhibit the Same Anti-Africaness towards black people who come from African countries

I female living in Japan for a year and 2 months, it's the culture and language barrier, if you don't speak Japanese it's actually tough to communication, anyway another point is that they are white washed and prefer white women any day over black women. And sorry for my language, their you know what is small below average. I have a Spanish from Spain who has been living here in Japan was married to a Japanese guy and has experience in dating in Japan said, Japanese men don't know how to treat women, don't expect them to be romantic, or remember anniversaries, or buy you flowers, hug or hold hands in public let alone kiss. I always advise black people men and women who come to Japan do your research first if you think you and your Japanese husband or boyfriend are going to be on the same page you are solely mistaken, Japanese people are nationalist, they don't really speak out on issues like discrimination or racisms or injustices so don't expect being defended by your partner, everything is swept under the rug. As I said have a lot of black friend in Japan that had and have Japanese wives, girlfriends , boyfriends and husbands, and dating outside our race always comes with consequences and headaches, especially in a society like Japan and other Asian countries were black is not really accepted, anyway I'm not discouraging you just saying is it worth a lifetime of trails and heartache, think about the kids you will bring in the world, what they will go through, ur husband will not fully comprehend he will be helpless, he won't be able to protect his kids from racism, discrimination or prejudice. This is why I tell people in serious interracial couples be full mentally, emotionally prepared, because raising interracial kids or being in a interracial family is no walk in the park. Anyway good luck with you Japanese guy hunting wish you all the best.😘

There are Black women dating and married here. Cocoa In Japan is one lady on YT. There are other ladies that lived here who got married and then moved away after some years. Everyone is different. I will say this, Japanese men are no different than any other men. They all wanna get to "P" one way or another.😂 I encourage Black women to be wise in who they choose whether at home or abroad. Don't get caught up and used living abroad when you could have done that in your home country. Don't let these men play house with you and then marry someone else. ☕

AS A BLACK MAN, BBOY AND GOES TO JAPAN, i can confirm the tan and braids... weird and silly at times but if they dont fake funk and are just being in element, its a pass. i had great times hanging with dancers, especially Japanese that dance in Jamaican dancehall.
Dating wise, some women are cool and open but to dating, if you are not committing to a relationship then expect less. Though, it's always a process anywhere we go outside of America/Africa, we have a a harder setting versus other races. Don't be discourage to shoot your shot, just move on if you get rejected, there is a lot of great women/men in JP.
Communication is big too. so, if you barely know some to none and you're date knows barely English... that's gonna be a hard time unless both are really interested. English is some what a thing in JP, and sure... there are people that speak English, but most locals will know a third of English... almost like Spanish in America.
And please for the love of god, because I've seen foreigner that do, don't date someone for the sake of them being Japanese, don't be shallow ... That shits whack.
