What I love about Seesaw is that he uses a metaphor for toxic relationships not only in lyrics but also in music which has ups and downs and his rap with high and low tones like a seesaw. He is really talented producer and songwriter
You are the first person I've watched on UA-cam who actually pays attention to the linguistics. A singer's native language surely plays a big part in the way their voice sounds, I agree.

I think he described it as lazily and effortless because the way he moves when he's dancing and the way he moves on his daily life/ doing casual things is how he naturally moves. I don't know if you get what I mean. He has natural swag even when not dancing. If Jimin is airy and Jungkook is earthy/muscle power (just to name a few members), Suga moves like water if that makes sense.

Suga will purposefully make sounds while breathing to add to the overall sound of the song. He also uses the sound "mmmm" in a lot of his songs. :)
And a lot of that hiccuping sound that Sam noticed.
Due to the Korean language phonetic rules, si is pronounced as shi. It's always so charming when Suga says 'shiso':).

I love how Sam has this very fond look on his face during the entire performance. It's exactly how every Army looks while watching Suga perform Seesaw.
Yoongi inspires fondness. And that's quite unexpected after you hear some of his rap to haters. He puts so much of himself into his writing and performances, you feel close to him.
I think it's his signature to do things like a lazy person.he acts like lazy he's so effortless but there's still effort if that makes sense.tbh yoongi is the most hardworking man i've ever seen.
True. He wrote 8 songs for the BE Album (but they couldn't use them all b/c other members' song had to be incorporated as well) while writing his D2 album at the same time. And 3 of them were written during the week they filmed In the SOOP (week spent at the lakehouse last spring). Never mind he produced the theme song to In the SOOP which the members spontaneously wrote while filming the show that week.

This is the first song that Suga has ever sang. Everyone was floored when he started singing and dancing instead of rapping. Suga is a songwriter. He is known for fast rapping and swag. He also is known for being sleepy. In his last interview he said he wants to write some folk music. He plays piano and guitar.
He is great dancer. He was b-boying before BTS. And of course he is brilliant musician, who is making music for 15-16 years. K-media named him Genius Producer, King of the music industry, Hand of Midas. Wish you would react to Shadow as well to see his different side

I've read Korean speakers say that Yoongi speaks like moving his mouth costs money XD he is very relaxed and kinda mumbles when speaking, but he is one of the fastest AND clearest rappers with the best pronunciation
Suga is the king of low effort, but high quality. He's so effortlessly cool but then he'll just randomly burst out into high energy (not in this song tho) or emotion, I love how that part of his personality translates to his music.
"So effortlessly cool but then he'll just randomly burst out into high energy" is just exactly the way I would describe the energy of a cat. They don't run circles around you all day like a dog. The energy comes in bursts. And it describes Yoongi so well! No wonder we call him Meow-meow.
That breathing shift you talked about when it can be clearly heard... pure Suga. It's as much as a vocal choice as Jimin's cry at the end of a falsetto note. It's one of Suga's signatures.
Suga is a very good producer and song writer. I really like the fact that u took time to react to rapline too. Most vocal coaches don't do that. Rapline also has very melodic rape. Especially if u react 2 their rap unit songs like ugh and outro tear. They change their rap style so much in these songs its amazing.

suga is a performer that is either aggressive and professional, or casual and authentic. with songs like seesaw, he just looks like he's genuinely enjoying himself and taking things casually, everything just flows from one thing to the next and it all ties together into this really comforting package. his solo mixtapes really put into perspective how much range of power he has. from one song where it feels like he's screaming at you, to something more like this, where he's just having a pleasant conversation with you and dancing a lil. i love him so much lmao :(
I think one thing yoongi is so good at is the use of breath. He will make sure to show desperation by leaving in his gasps as he passionately tells you his story so you can feel his pain too. Or he will leave a long breath at the end of a phrase to show, perhaps, loss of hope. His unfiltered approach to music, I think, is what always has drawn people in. Passionate is the easiest way to describe his music....

I second that, Suga´s part in it is a high light for me - shivers inducing really.
He includes his breathing between lines on purpose, it usually goes hand in hand with his music and lyrics. It's his things. Please react to more songs from him. He creates absolutely different genres from pop to alternative rock, from r&b to hip hop. He is incredibly versatile producer, songwriter and rapper. I suggest you to check out his songs BTS - First love, BTS - Interlude: Shadow, Agust D - People, Agust D - Set me free

And seesaw is just so an "unlike Suga" song I think. All his othet songs are completely different

SUGA Voice is really beautiful and got that really unique tone and character in it, his flow is one of the most beautiful, unique and dope Ive ever heard, his delivery is always on point, I can feel the soul and the perfect emotion and mood in every words of his rap/singing, he can do any genre too, he's the best

I generally tend to prefer vocals more similar to Jimin’s, but I adore SUGA’s voice and your explanation of the sound explains why I like it so much - it feels intimate, and when combined with his tendency to write very personal and vulnerable lyrics just works really well.

He is very versatile musician. It would be interesting if after Seesaw you'll react to his more rap song. Interlude: Shadow was amazing suggestion, hope you'll consider reacting to it
Another very beautiful song is First love - about his love for music
Suga is mainly a musician. His goal was to become a producer and song writer but due to is rapping abilities the company chose to include Suga in the rap line of BTS. He writes and produces for other artists and even won an award for producer of the year in Korea a few years ago. Though BTS have their "home production team" Suga, RM and Jhope are credited on almost all the BTS material. RM says that Suga has "absolute pitch" which is an asset for a producer. Suga lately mentioned that he hopes to sing more in the future.
I love your description of his dancing as lazy but technical! I always say he's doing the same steps as everyone else but with more economy of motion. hee hee
Both his personality and his music exude an intensity in small things. If you pay attention, you can tell how much intent goes into his music (and the things he does in his life), but if you're not paying attention, you'll brush him off as lazy or apathetic. Even his speaking voice is quiet and soft, but he often speaks with intensity that is belied by his tone.
I love how your analysis of his voice and his technique really emphasized that about him. The phrase "technical but lazy" is just right. It shows both the effort he made and the way he tries to de-emphasize the effort, as if trying to spare himself the vulnerability of his earnestness by acting like "It's all cool, it's no big deal, I just thought I'd drop this idea here for you to consider. But it's really no biggie, don't worry about it." It's a very complex human behavior, and it shows in a lot of his music, so I'm really glad that you addressed that juxtaposition in his performance.

I just love Suga's voice when he raps. Idk why but it's just very soothing. Helps me relax when I'm stressed or anxious. It's just something about his voice.

He breathes more like a rapper than a singer. He’s been more and more interested in singing since 2019 so I expect his singing to get a lot better. I think he’s been mostly imitating the guy’s styles as he’s seen them get better through the years. I know he took some lessons in 2019, but he keeps saying he wants to take more lessons and learn to sing. He’s been adding more and more melodies and singing into his solos and parts in both regular BTS songs, solo mixtapes and rapline songs.
This performance was more like stepping out of comfort zone for him. He usually doesn't make solo performances with choreography and Seesaw was his first solo song, where he is kinda singing. He likes trying new things and likes challenging himself. If you listen to his more recent songs like Agust D - People, you'll see he became very good singer. Please react to Interlude: Shadow, production wise i think it is one of his best works
I noticed the same thing about Korean language since I started learning it. For me it's a "closed-mouth" language. You don't need to open your mouth too much or talk too loudly to produce sounds. And that's why (in my opinion) k-pop seems so effortless, cause the Korean language is effortless itself.

Yeeh exactly, sometimes they can even talk in a kind of pouty way and it still sounds effortless and clear, and that's something so different from my native language that makes it super challenging to learn but fun at the same time lol
this would explain why so many reactors erroneously claim that BTS are lip synching... the lack of need to open the mouth so wide and the use of a microphone to project the sound louder than expected with a more closed mouth position. just saying.

Yoongi the rapper is a musician at heart, a sought after producer and a great beat maker. Before making his solo world tour we heard he had been taking singing lessons. Every one has been impressed by his singing.

A song that it total Suga is First Love - it's more rap centric but the song, it's meaning, and his performance are simply amazing. I think your "take" on how his voice as an instrument in this song is delivered would be fascinating. I was never fond of rap as a medium but the rap I did enjoy was the old school - early rap from the 80's that you could understand, had a message and "sounded" good. The boys in BTS rap line restored my enjoyment for the genre - Ddaeng is my favorite - even more so after I learned the translated lyrics.
His breaths are part of his style as far as I know. He has interesting flips up and down and squeaks in his raps. It's really cool and idk that I've really heard it anywhere else before
They say that Suga was hired to rap, produce and write. He was told singing and dancing would be a minimum,lol. As you will see he participates at 100% in all areas including dance. We love his wonderful effort on Seesaw. If you want to see Suga and J- Hope really get out of the box their SOPE OTSUKARE in Japan is guarenteed to make you smile. Lounge lizard jackets and choreography that is surprising. Some say Suga would only dance like this out of respect for JHope. Great reaction, we love the deep dive.
Greatly appreciate the technical descriptions of Suga‘s vocal sound production. He makes his voice into a suite of instruments. He is so effective at communicating the intent by effortlessly shifting forms. Love it and I can appreciate his work more now. Thanks
He is amazing producer and songwriter. He is very passionate about music and he is also very hardworking. He needs only 3-4 hours of sleep to be able to work
Have you ever made a video on how your native language influences your singing? That would be interesting to watch. I’m Danish and a lot of the sounds come from the throat when we speak. And I’ve always thought that it might be the reason for why I struggle with high notes 😂

He is very powerful performer and dancer. His style of dance changes according to mood of the song. If it is hype song like Fire he is literally will be fire, very sharp and quick. In Seesaw he is very chill. Wish you'd react to Shadow too

This song of his showcases how effortless and natural he seems. Some people were saying before how the rapline can't dance or sing but look at how Yoongi can along with J-hope and RM. I loved how you commented on his dancing as well and how you put into words the feeling and vibe he's giving. That characteristic of him being seemingly lazy amd effortless gives him that charm. I really feel like he's got that natural swag not only when dancing and performing, but also with the way he walks, moves, and just his every action. His every action screams swag and cuteness at the same time lmao

I'm so so happy that you're checking out the rapline! Rap has always been one of my favorite genres of music and most people don't realize that it is really difficult to rap (believe me I've tried lol), it takes technique and practice and excellent breath work. I've always wanted to hear a vocal coach analyze it to know more. This was great!

This was great! Two things I love about his delivery are those sharp breaths and the quick vocal inflections/flips. It adds so much character and emotion to his performance.

Great video! I love how you pick up on the fact that language can effect how you have to approach some notes/words in terms of tone. If you ever react to more of Suga, I think you'll enjoy some of the stuff he does - he sometimes will rap from the perspective of someone or something else in his song and he'll change his voice accordingly. In the song First Love, for instance, he raps a small verse from the perspective of his piano.
Well i would say everything you said about this pretty much somes up not only the performance but also him as a whole lol he has such a relaxed laid back auro about him... lets just call it Subdued Suga Swag lol but when this guy goes into full on hard rapper mode its on another level altogether.
