- I have wanted to dive deeper into hybrid drumming for quite a while, so I thought it was time to get out my SPD-SX and start experimenting! I've used an SPD-SX quite a bit in a live setting, but only to control backing tracks. This approach treats the sample pad as more of an instrument, which is really cool. The possibilities are endless and this is the start of me experimenting with adding new sounds to my drumming pallette.

I’m no drummer, but I’ve always loved the idea of hybrid kits, because as a guitarist that’s always had amp & effects modelers, alongside real amps, the versatility of digital is so nice.
I honestly even had a semi-decent hybrid layout in my head that I hope to one day become a good enough drummer to justify building

I've always found that playing hybrid felt weird, half the sounds aren't coming from the kit but from the PA. It creates a sort of disconnect, so I'm really interested where this journeys will take you! And if I can pick up stuff along the way :P
Definitely, but I think the magic is when you can fuse the two together into one sound, either via a PA or on a recording. Work in progress! Thanks for watching
YES! Looking forward to seeing where you take this, If you're looking for ways to do simple reocrding without a whole mic setup the Yamaha EAD10 wold be a great option. I know you've done a video on them in the past so it could be an option. I run my EAD10 & SPD-SX through a focusrite interface that allows for playback and simple recording straight into logic! Hope that might help!

If i were you, i would see if you can contact Joe Clegg. (Drummer for Ellie Goulding and others) he has done a load of stuff incorporating electric with acoustic and his ableton course with this stuff is amazing
