I was a second year college student when I watched this on Channel 9. I still remember very well how this contest went on because it was discussed at the proper contest. Each Asian country then had two representatives in this singing contest. Let me emphasize that this was not a song festival, but a singing contest where the best singers of each country showcased their singing prowess or belting voice. The Philippines was then represented by Dulce and Ivy Violan. The scores of the two singers from each country were then added to determine the grand winner. Dulce splendidly sang "Memory" where she laid down on the floor upon reaching the change key part/the part with the highest note of the Memory which goes TOUCH ME, IT'S SO EASY TO LEAVE ME. We all stood up when she did that----nakahiga sa sahig habang binabatanatan yung part na yun. Dulce scored very high on that part. After Dulce perofrmed, she was followed right away by Ivy violan. Caught by the camera somewhere at the backstage, Ivy Violan looked nervous as Dulce was approaching her. Then Ivy Violan performed this No Way to Treat a Heart where she also scored very high. Merging the scores of Dulce and Ivy, Manila emerged as the Grand Champion. Now, there was a special award given called Best Singer which can only be given to one contestant. This went to Ivy Violan. For me, Dulce and Ivy are equally excellent singers then. Unfortunately, the rule said it should only go to one contestant. So, that's the story. The following year (1989), the organizer changed the mechanics. There was only one contestant from each country. The Philippines sent Regine Velasquez whose real name is Chona Velasquez. In her time, each contestant had to sing 2 songs. One for the qualifying round and one for the final round. She first sang You'll Never Walk Alone in the qualifying round. Those contestants who made it to the final round had to sing their very best song. In which case, Regine who qualified sang Now I'm Telling You. Only 5 contestants made it to the final round and Regine emerged as the Grand Champion.
randolph mamaril In 1990, Ivy Violan represented the Philippines in the Golden Abu Kite-World Song Festival which was held in Finland. There were so many contestants, outnumbering the contestants in the 1988 Asia Pacific Singing Contest. Danny Tan originally composed the piece entitled "So Easy to Love You" which Ivy sang at the contest. It was Danny Tan who played the piano at the contest proper itself. Ivy was called towards the end of the contest and she belted very well her voice, especially in the last part of the song which goes JUST THE SAME.... That part was sung with a very very high note. Ivy emerged as the Champion.
Paulit ulit ko pa din pinapakinggan to. Di ko alam lagi ako naiiyak. May something sa pagkakanta ni Ms Ivy. Parang may hugot. Di ko alam. Basta naluluha ako paulet ulet.
Grabe!!!! Sobrang galing... mataas ang boses pero di masakit sa tenga... perfect! Di tulad ng mga singers ngayon na puro tili lang ng tili... di na masarap pakinggan!
After 32 years ng contest, nakakatindig balahibo parin ang interpretation ni Ms. Ivy Violan ng song na ito, "No Way to Treat a Heart". Walang kahirap-hirap sa high notes, hindi masakit sa tenga, at punong-puno ng emotion.
This song is impeccable. Can only be sung by someone who has the heart, range and skills without fear, and the knowledge to understand and tell the story of the song.
I've been through a lot of heart break and this song is my 💓 Heart break song I'm Divorced with my Japanese wife now And thank God I heard this song again my move on song I still believe in Forever ❤️
Ms Ivy Violan is a natural storyteller. She doesn't need to do any music video. Her live performances are full of nuances in her show of emotions and vocal dexterity. What a treat having the chance to see her perform live you're just drawn to her, you leave the concert hall having withdrawal symptoms from the experience.
I never get tired watching this video. Her voice and the way she looked was a hit for the Cantonese, she had the Theresa Teng vibe. She started slowly, sweetly and gently then gradually rose until she reached a powerful slow rock rhythm. She did that with semingly no effort. This was Ms. Ivy Violan's greatest performance.
Prince Jesse I agree. She had that Teresa Teng or Mariko Takahashi vibes going on there. Her singing is so clear, soothing, she knows her range perfectly well and doesn't overpower her voice. A real Asian diva.
Love it when she sang the line : REMEMBER...IT WAS YOU WHO SAID FOREVER.... No doubt.. Ms ivy violan is ivy violan... The Original FESTIVAL QUEEN... kudos. 🙏🙏🙏🙌🙌🙌💖💖💖
Fantastic voice in her time. Incomparable talent which you can't see nowadays. There were no social media then but these talents have their own signature when you hear their name. Ivy, Claire, Papin, Vernie, Sampaguita,, Pilita, Carmen Soriano, Pateña, etc.
Sarap pakinggan Walang kupas The best of the best I'm very happy I'm still alive 😊 41 now My stress reliever song this covid 19 quarantine lockdown 😍 MECQ Thank God I'm okay now 🙏 From PUI to Covid free I will be listening to the song and memorizing it While I'm at home My favorite this song during covid 19 quarantine lockdown 😍 Pang tanggal Ng lungkot sa condo This song relax me I love Ms. Ivy Violan Classic and sophisticated crystal voice Wala katulad ♥️ #staysafe #stayathome #wehealasone #covid19lockdown

i think ivy violan won here as the best singer because her voice is so soft and sweet but so powerful at the same time, it is like listening to cd with the volume up...

Si Martin Nievera ang kumanta nitong No Way To Trear A Heart at Erik Santos pero iba talaga ang Version ni Ivy Violan.
wla pa kme tv panahon na to..kinder years ko pa lng.d nmn makpanood sa kapitbahay dahil aakyat pa ng bubong para lng maayos ang signal ng tv.jejeje..makes me cry..lot of memories watching old clips
