Listening to this song brings back so much old memories when our African communities had rich Yoruba traditions and culture through Ogugu’s, Ugunuku’s and Gelledeh traditional societies.

So childish of me in the early 80's growing up as a child. I get so confused and annoyed to why my dad always listened to this slow and sluggish music. I appreciate it more than all music now as an adult. I listened to Baba Legba and Ayinla almost daily. Thanks for posting

I learned to appreciate these type of songs when I was much older... i was studying for "JAMB" exams... a radio station plays this genre on Monday evening. It helps calms my nerves during those dark study nights... Many later I met a lecture who was into this song and likes give us history lessons about the names in this song and circumstances around it. Good old days...

@@base2060 Oh. In this song he mentioned a lot of names including some royal family members'. I cant remember most of the stories now. There was a part where his back up singer were meant to call one of them "prince" but mistakenly called him "king" even though there was someone else on the throne the prince might ascend although Baba Yusuf Olatunji hastily corrected them but the damage has been done... can't remember the full details too...

What else can one say about these genre? complete in poetry, balanced delivery of vocals and vibes, richness of yoruba language expression and praise varieties. the king is dead, long live the king. His deliveries were my all-night favourites when I was reading for my first degree in sociology at the University of Ife (now OAU) in early seventies. It became addictive untreatted as it became a sweet noght poison when I entered University of Ghana in late eighties for a doctoral degree.
      Baba l'Egba!!! Keep living.

Almost everyone will tell you how they hated this kind of music as a kid, but then you get to a certain age and starts to understand what beauty you have wrapped up in the music..
I’ll jam this and pass it on to my kids.. Great music that connects with your inner soul.. Rest on Legend ❤️

I can’t stop laughing. Your statement speaks directly to me. I remembered with such nostalgia those old days when I watched my dad move slowly but happily to the melodious rhythm of baba elegba. I makes me sick since I was too young to connect with it at the time. Now I blast the music everyday with the same cycle of disapproval from my kids. Maybe they will understand when they grow up😂

This is so acutrate. My parents played more of Fela, KSA, E. Obe's and the High-life songs at home... but I heard this on the radio more. I didn't hate it. I didn't just know how beautiful the song was until I needed a company during study time and this song helped. I didn't even know the lyrics then until i was much older.

Whenever I want to go secular in relaxing my head, I go for it. No wonder it was aired late night by Splash FM Ibadan in the days . I don't know now. Good music died in the 80s/90s.
