Thanks.... This just helped 45 mins of my partner interrupting watching football to ask questions. Much appreciated
😂😂 glad to help in any way that we can!
Earlier today I had no idea what defined offside. This video (even though I’ll probably have to watch it 5 more times to remember all the details lol) has made it crystal clear. Thank you very much!
Thanks Matt… Really appreciate the feedback!
Thats me exactly ☺
Great explanation. I'm a new football fan of about three years now and still struggled to fully understand it until watching this video. Thanks!
Thanks for the support!
Just like to say this is by far the clearest explanation I've seen and the quiz at the end is a fantastic way for parents and kids to test what they've learnt. My wife and I team manage each of our son's teams and will be sending this out for lines duty training. Cheers from Australia!
Thank you guys! Really appreciate the support ❤️
I was curious about offside and I don't want soccer (football). This video is by far the best video out there as a visual demonstration and clear and cut explanations about offside.
Thank you! This video really helped me! It's probably the best explained video I've come across.😁
I find a lot of people understand the basic, most common scenario, but don't realize the part about the ball being onside if two players have moved past the opposition. I've seen so many cases (even a coach recently on the MLS, if you can believe it) of people pointing to the last defender when a pass is made to a teammate behind or in line the ball.
Anyway, great explanation.
Bro IVE BEEN PLAYING SOCVER FOR LIKE 11 YEARS IM 15 AND IVE NEVER PEARNED OFF SIDE ON SIDE RULE UNTIL NOW THANKS TO THIS WELL EXPLAINED VID 👏 👌
Excellent...I've watched every off side instruction video and this was the most understandable...thank you !
My pleasure! Glad it helped!
Perfect explanation. Clear, comprehensive, and above all, CORRECT. Thanks. The only video on the topic that does the job!
Awesome explanation. Complete. All the cases. Bonus quiz. Wow!
Exactly what I need. Thank a lot!
Thanks Alex! Appreciate the support!
Best video on this topic yet, you covered it all. I just shared this with my U12 team to help with the confusion some new players have.
Thanks a lot! Really hope it helps!
This is the best explanation of offside I’ve seen. Thank you!
thank u sooo much u are the only one that explained this well offside genius
This is the best explanation I have found of offside rules. Thank you so much!
So well explained, even my 8 year old could understand as he watched it with me. Thank you!
Thanks Melissa!
This is the best explanatory video of offsides I've seen yet. Thank you!
Needed a refresh going into my next season for myself and my teammates, this helped me remember it all, cheers!
Great explanation, be good mention about deflections from a defending player or the goal posts i.e. if a ball gets passed to a player that's in an offside position but the pass is deflected or hits a defender on the way past. or a shot is deflected off the goal post to a player in an offside position. these are the kind of questions my 10yr old son is asking me.🤣 or if a defender plays it back to the goal keeper and the ball is intercepted by a player in an offside position.
I would like to know the answer to this too
The best example that I have seen which has made it easy for me to understand.
Well done 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
definitely a great explanation, unlike a lot of videos you got right in there with the second to last defender, too many overlook that. kudos
Thank you so much for this video! I have watched so many and I didn’t understand it fully, but now I finally understand the offside rule thanks to u!!
Our pleasure!
This a a great video Ben. Makes it super easy to explain it to my young players!👍🏻
Excellent explanation! Thank you so much and greetings from the north.
This is excellent - well-versed, and the question bit helped my kids more than anything else!
Thanks a lot! Really appreciate the feedback!
Best explanation on YT .. Thank you for the good work.
Thank you so much my dad is a soccer coach and it’s really hard to explain offsides but now everyone understands it!!! 😊🙏
That’s amazing! Thanks for your support and feedback! Good luck this season!
even though i am not a coach but actually a player, this helped ALOT
Easiest explanation of that blasted rule. Thanks. Now it makes sense
I haven’t played soccer in 3 years and I needed a refresher on this. Thanks so much for this!!!❤️
No problem ❤️ thanks for watching! And good luck!
This is not Soccer it is called European Football, because they play with their foot.
Exactly what I have been looking for! Thank you soooo much!!!
I will pleasure thanks for checking the video out!
This is a very well explained offside rule explanation, just what ive been looking for. Thank you very much!
Thanks a lot! Feel free to share it with others to help out our channel!
Best explanation I’ve seen so far. Thank you 😊
Thank you!
Good work. Our U11s are just about to start playing offsides now, this is invaluable.
Thanks James! Best of luck!
The best explanation so far !
Brilliant explanation !
Thank you for specifying that you can move offsides when the ball is played. No other video mentions this, but it's so common.
No problem! An important part of the offside rule is timing those runs!!
Excellent video!! At last a clear explanation that I can understsnd.Thanks.
Thanks for your support!
Great job! I would have added a pass back from an opposite player puts you onside..also explain bounce off goal post for offside position
This is the best explanation and very easy to understand!!
Thanks so much!
This was the best explanation I've found so far! Our son has been playing soccer for a few years now, but just hit the age that they started calling offsides, and I realized that I actually had no idea what the ruling was!
Quick question, though - in the last scenario where the attacker is behind the two defenders, are they still offsides if the ball is passed and they get in front of the defenders before they receive the ball? Or is the offsides called based on where they were at the time the ball is passed?
Great question! It’s based on their exact position at the exact time the ball is played. It actually happens quality a lot where a defender drops back towards their own goal, so by the time the ball arrives to an attacking player they LOOK onside. But because they were in an offside position at the time the ball was played, it’s still offside.
Perfect for my team who are moving up to 9v9 this season. Very clearly explained. Thanks.
Thanks guys 👍🏻
That has to be the best explanation of the offside rule! Well done you are excellent... I will subscribe... My 7yr old twins will benefit from this video.... So cheers... Love it!
You’re very welcome Chris! Thanks for the support! Share it with your fellow coaches and parents!
Thanks so much!
great explanation. I've been watching 10 years of youth soccer. I seriously think that all levels should do away with this rule and replace it with something much simpler (just to keep an attacker from basically 'camping out' at the opposing goal). Why? I think like you covered around 7:10, these line judges cannot accurately watch a) where the attacking player was exactly when b) the pass was released, so they flub the call routinely. And as a parent, I can only suspect they flubbed it, without instant replay I can't be certain. But it's frequently all so close that there was nothing obvious about it and they should have just let the play continue.
Or call it when it's obvious--but a lot of refs like to be a part of the show and will call it when it's super close and not obvious. If my kid's team lost b/c of some close uncalled situations, I'd honestly have no prob with it since I think it's basically a stupid rule.
Thanks so much for your explaining that helped me
Finally someone who can actually explain the offside rule good
Thanks
Thanks. Very easy to understand now 😊
excellent explanations - the best
I was trying to learn offside and its perfect everything is explained perfectly and now i understand it thank you so much

Amazing explanation.
Well explained. 👏👏👏
Well explained 🎉❤️
can you tell me the 13 ppl that hate this video this explain everything i am a skill player but do not upside but now my coach is proud of me soon am getting scouted thx you
I just started playing Fifa and I get offside like 4 times in a game. This explanation hopefully will reduce my offside count next game
The best explanation ever
Thank you, much appreciated
Thanks for watching!
You did a really simple explanation of offside. Thank you! I wish I had this when I was a kid. Do the scenario change when its a deflection off a defensive player? Hopefully you have another great video explaining it.. and yes Suarez is an amazing player in my opinion!!!! Thank you for your effort making the video.
Thank you for your feedback! Really appreciate that!
With a deflection, if the ball is intentionally played by a teammate and then takes a deflection off an opponent then it would still be offside. If the ball is intentionally passed by a defender then it would be onside.
@@CatalanSoccer thank you!!!!.
@@prodigalsun1069 Suarez need something to nibble.
OMG that video just made it so simple I'm now embarrassed that I never understood it😬
BRILLIANT VIDEO!
Thanks a lot! And don’t be embarrassed, it’s a very complicated law!
Thx for the help :3
Thx this helps alot
Amazing
thanks man i really learned something
Thanks for the support!
i always got so confused in fifa when i was running towards the goalkeeper with a teammate and no defenders left and i would pass the ball and sometimes it would be offside and sometimes not
now i know why because my second player just was in front of the ball and not at the back
thank you so much
Thank You So Much
Very helpful!
Thanks!
This really helped I’m a footballer 12 under and I needed this because it’s going to be our first offside match 👍🏻🥰
Thanks Eva! Best of luck with your game! Let us know how it goes!
Good luck! The amount of times I’ve been done for being off side is sad, just remember when you shoot for a goal you don’t do what I did and start celebrating and then find out it’s an offside goal 😒😂 wait for the crowd to start cheering 😂
Very good video
Thank you so much
Thank you.
This helped me a lot
Thanks for the feedback!
Thank you im only going into leagues and barley knew the rule
Thank you!!!
Thank you!
Briliiant explanation !
Thanks my friend!
Good explanation, thanks. Could you record a new version where you include she/her instead of always he/his? Would be a lot better for the thousands of girls teams. Thanks.
Hi Nic! Great idea! We will look into that!
Thanks for the very detailed explanation! Question… What if a pass is made toward a player who is offside but they are heading back towards the passer and receive the ball onside?
Still offside! The direction of the player and the position when the ball arrives aren’t counted, only the position at the time the ball is played
@@CatalanSoccer Thanks for the clarification. Have a good day.
Really usefull easy to follow guide. Just one question. @2:35 the example of the ball becomming the offside line and the attacking player passes back, why is that not offiside? Where does it state that in the 11.1 or 11.2 (or elsewhere)? Not being awakward but just trying to understand as I lineman kids football but have had to learn the offside rule as I have never really played. Thanks in advance of any answers.
Good question. The player passing the ball, once they have released the ball would no longer be interfering with play. So technically being in an offside position but not close enough to the ball to interfere with the play or the goalkeeper.
@@CatalanSoccer Thanks for replying. Having just re-read 11.1 the wording says the player has to be nearer the opponents goal line than BOTH the ball AND the second last opponent. Your explanation is SO much clearer than the written rules. Well done and thanks.
What if you are in an offside position when the ball is passed behind the last defender to a teammate who started onside but has moved behind the defender to receive the ball. Assuming you haven't been involved with the ball or haven't shielded any defenders, can you quickly get back onside and then receive a pass from the teammate that is behind the last defender? When I say get back onside, does that mean the player has to retreat behind the last defender or just the ball? Are there any other weird scenarios where a player can be offside and get back onside such as a shot?
Great
This is exactly I don't like soccer/hockey rules especially when you have the faster team with fastest players that other teams can't keep up & football offsides is way different
Thanks
Can you do a tutorial on a corner kick? If the kicker kicks the ball and he received it back?
Good video, thanks! at the end (8.50) the player is offside and comes onside and receives the ball directly, doesn't that mean he carries the offside with him ?
Defenders are the ones who dictate where the offside line is. Making a run from an offside position back inside is completely fine as long as the ball isn’t played before they get back onside.
@@CatalanSoccer thank you.
I'm here after Qatar - Ecuador . Great explanation. One question lingers though. The case when there is a player in an offside position, but who is not the one that receives the pass. Is it considered offside if that player is somehow distracting the goalie for example , just like for being there as an option for pass?
Yeah that’s correct, if you are obstructing the keepers view. However, that’s not the same as simply being in the keepers field of vision. . It has to be pretty clear that you were preventing them from seeing the ball or another player.
@@CatalanSoccer thx!
I'm here to know/clarify why the NZ's goal wasn't counted. Now, i know. Thanks you sir. 🙏🙏🙏
- ❤ ⚽️ 🇵🇭
Hey thanks for the explanation, I have a doubt like you mentioned in thrown in (not direct but) redirected to another player and then kicked to player to offside is considered as offside. Is this the same if corner is kicked? Like corner is kicked to an another player and then that player kicks to an offside player, is this offside?
Yes! That would be offside
@@CatalanSoccer Thanks for confirmation.
@@CatalanSoccer Meanwhile what happens if 2 players are standing at offside and corner is kicked to player 1 (offside) and player 1 passes to player 2 (offside) and player 2 kicks a goal ?
Then it’s offside. You can only not be called offside from the first pass directly from a corner. Every pass after that the normal offside rule applies
