Motorcycle Wheel Cleaning: Dishwashing Liquid vs. Car Shampoo vs. Special Product

Cleaning the rear motorcycle wheel is a mess. Especially when having a chain final drive - the back wheel gets greasy and dusty, and you'll need more than a car wash session to get a proper cleaning. We tried a basic dishwashing liquid, a car shampoo and a special product (Motul Wheel Clean) to see how it goes. What's your solution?

I always use WD-40. Very good. I even use it to clean the engine with it. Bike looks as new after using it.

I am a fan of Motorex Moto Protect. Works well as a cleaner and protectant. Helps keep some of the grime build up on the rear wheel as well.

I always like your videos but i think opening and taking out the wheel just for cleaning is really going to be pain in ass. I personally spray kerosene on the wheel and keep a cloth on and rotate the wheel on paddock and it's clean and takes only 3-4 minutes.

The best and cheapest is paraffin. Cuts through all the grease easily.

White Spirit is known as mineral spirits in the States. I'd also suggest brake cleaner as an alternative. There are many, really.

Might want to equip yourself with some bilt hamber APC with a 1:10 ratio, grime pretty much slides off lol

Paraffin (kerosene in USA?) cuts through grease instantly. Seems fine on my painted wheels. Definitely paraffin in a icecream tub and a toothbrush for cleaning the chain too. Wash off well, go for a spin to dry it off, then apply small amoung of oil or a bit of silicone spray. Do not use white spirit please.

Don't use washing up liquid to wash any part of your bike! Very bad idea, it may be cheap but has salt as an ingredient and you know how bad that is for your bike.

Hot water,washing machine detergent(in a bucket),sponge and hands.Perfect solution otherwise its a GS.

Leave it covered in a nice protective covering of chain oil and go ride it instead. (After virus)
