Must be a space saving thing but it makes sense. And only one axle to drive the load instead of the tandems I'm used to? If it works, it works. Maybe the length of the machine matters there? Justanoldguy '46 yes a COE truck is a big advantage in narrow cities and construction sites. The length of the complete vehicle is limited: sometimes you get in trouble with the law if you just have mounted a bullbar...
