Osteogenesis Imperfecta Emergency
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 сер 2021
- In this video a young man with osteogenesis imperfecta presents to the emergency department with a fracture of the right radial head and an effusion in the right elbow. He and his mother discuss this inherited disease and share their experiences.
That young man is such a brave soul sitting so chill with a broken wrist, I wish him all the best.
Hello my honorable professor..I am very happy with your conversation, your videos and your method of training
Thank you very much for the words of encouragement!
Wow, that was an awesome one. Learned something new! Many thanks from a Canadian paramedic for all your videos.
Glad you like them!
Great teaching videos with excellent commentary and slides at the end covering the important bits of the disease, always looking forward for a new one.:)
Excellent! Glad to hear that. Thanks for the compliment.
Some of the best med ed videos I've seen on this channel - thanks prof.
Wow, thanks!
He probably has type 1. OI is not the not the lack of calcium but the lack of collagen! I have type 2/3. Type 2 is the most lethal, whereas type 1 sometimes don't know they have OI.
I too have the same I guess. Lack of collagen not calcium
Wonderfully informative, your videos are always a pleasure to learn from. Thank you again sir
I don't work in medicine but i love learning about it. Your videos are so well done. Good stuff. Cheers.
Thank you very much!
A lot of parents of kids with OI get accused of child abuse because of the healed or healing fractures on x-ray, if they aren't known to have it they're in for a rough time
My family was investigated three times. The last time I was when I was nearly 17. I know of someone who had their 6 week old infant taken away. It's absolute madness.
this is very true. A lot of doctors i have seen will have my parents step out of the room so they can ask me about it and i just have to explain to them what i have
Awww... he was the cutest!😍
Thank you again for another great video. NCLEX coming on the 1st of September and I know this information will be helpful ❤🙂
Good luck!!
Thank you 🙂
@Darius the Great thank you so much!❤
Haven’t watched the whole video yet, but thanks for sharing this. I saw an interview with someone with osteogenesis imperfecta on SBSK and I’ve been curious about the clinical care ever since.
You are welcome!
3rd year med student here. Thank you.
What an absolutely beautiful boy!!! I was actually shocked to see how good he looked, as I have only encountered one patient that had it at birth. I worked in the nursery in a small rural hospital, and also in the pediatric office. Last time I saw this “baby” he was 16.
Agree!
I had a friend in high school who had osteogenesis imperfecta. It was passed down from her dad. Now she has twins, both of whom have it.
He's such a cute kid! I feel bad for kids that have issues...just seems that kids should have such a free and happy life!
My daughter has OI so this video was so interesting to watch with all the similarities.
From an old ER attending let me say your channel is great but makes me miss the ER a lot.
Love the word management. Healthcare is just a bunch of knowledge with some management. We have a long ways to go.
this is really cool to see because me and my dad have type 1 osteogenesis imperfecta and ive never seen anything bringing attention to it because it is so rare
ive broken 15 bones, and my dad has broken somewhere around 50-60
Thank you for your comments!!
Thank you so much for this video!! future nurse wanting to learn more (:
You very welcome. Thanks for taking the time to express your gratitude.
I recently did a short video about a young SFX makeup artist with Osteogenesis Imperfecta called "My Superpower." The video explores Tiffany’s life with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone Disease) and some of the characters she has created, which draw inspiration from her own life and experiences.
Wonderful video Dr. Mellick
Thank you!!
Me too have blue sclera and I have osteogenisis imperfecta . I undergo frequent bone breaks when slipped or fell :')
I have broken my arms more than 12 times , my legs like 2 or 3 times ( I can't remember the exact no of leg breaks ) And Im now 20 yrs old and still breaking bones even with a easy hit. My bones are weak than normal ppl.
My mother too have this condition and non of our family members have it. She too breaks her bones regularly :')
This would be a tough one to catch in the ER. Labs would probably be normal, presentation not optimal, but a good history would be the clue, I think. Is this what pointed you towards this? Well done, nonetheless.
Agreed!
My youngest daughter has OI she has needed a few teeth removed due to them coming through without any enamel and she too has a 'super tooth'
Thanks for sharing.
french medical student watching all your videos
Merci! Love to hear from international viewers!
Thank for your videos...
Glad you like them!
What causes the blue sclera exactly? Never seen it before
His sclera is semi-transparent due to low collagen
Thanks for the content! :)
You are welcome!
Thank you for your videos and to your patients for allowing you to shoot them. I am in my last semester of nursing school for my RN and they have helped me tremendously.
Is she is his mom???
Mother by adoption
I’m kinda worried about whoever did that soft cast splint with an entire roll of tape lol
Mr. Glass?
These rare genetic disorders are relatively common in our country due to consanguinity.
👏👏
You are welcome!!
