This boom box needed a belt replaced in the cassette deck mechanism and a good cleaning. If you're working on an early to mid-90's Panasonic this might be a helpful look at the interior construction and the belt placement. I found this model very easy to work on.
I was gifted one of these with the exact same belt melted. Your video helped me place the belt correctly. Thank you.
Very nice, I just found this exact model at a thrift store for $6, and it's so helpful to see someone else go in and work on it first. (Mine seems to work great, until it ate the tape I was testing it on at the store)
A product called Rubber Rejuvenator is great for cleaning and restoring rubber rollers. Used it for years on laser printers.
I have somehow broken the tuner - the teeth on the dial no longer moves the plastic slider . Do you have any suggestions on how to fix it? My model (FS450) is slightly different than yours but the mechanism is the same
I have an old RX FS430, tape is inside but door doesnt open. eject button does go down some,. Radio plays well.
ot familiar with the tools to use to open it up and repair this prolem
😮the rush tape is damaged or missing the felt .
What is the size of the rubber bands for the cassette deck.
Hi! Thanks for uploading this. I just picked up a Panasonic RX-C36 and think it needs the belts replaced. I’ve never done anything like this before. Any advice? Thanks so very much!
I just got one of these and replaced the same belts. All the buttons work except the rewind which won’t click and stay down. It works if I hold it down but it won’t click into place. Any ideas?
The catch that holds it down is pretty obvious on most mechanisms, but I don’t remember this one in particular. I’d inspect it for damage or dried out grease. I don’t think the auto-stop mechanism works on rewind and fast-forward, so it’s probably not that.
you are a Genius man
Beautiful tape ❤😊
Isn't alcohol going to destroy the rollers?
Where do you recommend getting belts? Any part number? Thanks.
These came from my pile of Chinese belts acquired over the years. That's hit or miss but there are a number of ebay suppliers that do list belts by model number. I don't have enough experience with them to recommend a particular one.

It would help if you would point out what tools and sizes you were using.
Not many tools are required: all you really need is Phillips number 1 or 2 screwdriver to open the case and for most of the internal screws. It's also useful to have some jewellers screwdrivers and needle-nosed pliers and/or forceps. In your situation you'd get the back off and see if you can free the mechanism.
I should clarify- at least I think that is what is wrong. It plays but sticks and eats the tape. Rewind & fast forward do not work. Thanks!
It does sound like one of the belts is bad.
