I'm impressed. This demonstrates how difficult long range can be. But if you guys did this well at 2000 then you would have been absolutely hammering the plate at 1000.

Thanks for showing the audience how difficult a shot like this actually is instead of showing a highlight real of easy hits. 2,000 yards is no joke especially with 300 prc when the Round goes subsonic at 1800ish yards

2000 yards is a hard shot for anyone. I managed to score a first shot hit at 2000 with pure luck in an ELR competition earlier this year. That was my only hit at that distance too. All my remaining shots were misses, as were all my 2200 yard shots. I shoot 6.5x55 out of a tikka in an MDT ESS chassis. My rounds go subsonic at 1200 yards, so 300 prc would be a big upgrade for me.

@@farmerbrown84 With a 6 mil (~20 moa) base and a 6 mil rail, I get about 28 mil of elevation in my scope. IIRC, I needed about 33 mils for the 1850m (~2000 yard) shot, so about 5 mils of holdover in the reticle. For the 2023m (~2200 yard) shot, I measured the top of a tree to be almost exactly 10 mils above the plate, and used that as a reference for my holdovers.

I feel your pain with the factory 225 eld-m. I had GA precision build me a 300 PRC before hornady had ammo on shelves. When I first took it to the range I had an ES of 120 fps in 1 box. Average over 20 boxes was in the high 80's. 4 different lots of ammo, 400 rounds and I've only ever had the factory eld-m shoot an ES under 60 fps for 1 box. I could only get the es down into the high 20's with hornady brass. I'm getting 12 fps pretty regular with Atlas Development Group brass. Shooting anything at that distance with that ammo is a feat, congratulations!

On a budget, i found a Savage Axis II Precision at a pawn shop for 700.00, put a out of date (overall bad) Millet scope on it, sited in @ 100, hit the steel 8" plate @500 yards easily. Of course that rifle came with the MDT chassis system from Savage. (Oh, the rifle is chambered in what fans of the caliber call the 6.5 Manbun)

Plus why u people didn't use such barell which will not heat up quickly plus a bit costly but enhanced gun (not getting heated easily) video part could have been added to this video

the record for longest confirmed kill is 3870 yards by Canadian special forces, which is even more impressive when you consider it's combat situations and factory load, and the target tends to move around 😉

Before I watch the video. if a rifle can group sub-moa at 100 it can do it at 1000, 2000, or whatever it comes down to cartridge choice, optics, and the shooter. Doesn’t it?

Any rifle can shoot 2k with enough elevation hitting the target it’s a different thing all together sending shot after shot and getting a lucky one on target doesn’t make the rifle capable cheap rifle low quality ammunition equals failure no surprise Great effort from the shooter 👏🏼

    • @MDTTAC

Yes but a rifle shooting a third of a minute should still be considered capable for accuracy.

Yep, I got a 6.5 Carcano I bought for 25 bucks back in the 70's that will shoot more than 2000 yards. Probably more like 5000 yards but you have to hold a lot of Kentucky elevation.

  • @astropolski

Were you guys taking into account the Coriolis Effect at that distance? And if so how did you account for it?
Follow up question- do you think a higher twist rate on the barrel would help with bullet stabilisation at those ranges or would it be detrimental to the result due to the change in velocity?
Great video tho, im fascinated by the mathematics behind long distance shooting such as this. Appreciated the terminology used and various factors taken into account.

It's more realistic with hand loads imo. Mass produced ammo just won't give you the consistency and without consistency you're just lobbing rounds and maybe hitting sometimes but probably not and mostly only by accident. My mosin 91/30 can hit at 2000yds with surplus but not because it's accurate but because 500rds gives good odds
