Agreed! Back when they were touring, I was listening to bands like Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Fear Factory, old school Metallica and Megadeth, etc. You get the idea. I had of course heard of Type O Negative but never checked them out. One day out of the blue a couple years ago, my boyfriend said, “I’m kind of surprised you were never into Type O Negative. I thought all women who loved NIN in the late 90’s and early 2000’s were also obsessed with them.” This prompted me to finally check them out. I was instantly kicking myself for missing out on seeing them when I had a chance.
It has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative. Steele had a dark sense of humor with almost everything. He didn't care what people thought of him. He was a true individual who did as he pleased.
Jerry Cantrell and then Pete top the list for me of songwriters, Pete was a better singer tho but Jerry kicks ass and imo I give the edge to as a songwriter because of the absolutely iconic stuff he’s written. Regardless Pete is the fuckin man, he was a great singer and bassist but his best attribute imo was his song writing, total legend
I think Alice In Chains has the most depressing songs that make me smile because they’re amazing but TON is #2, both incredible bands with really sad depressing music AIC’s instrumentals were just more dark/Eerie/haunting. Anyway both bands are fuckin amazing, will never get sick of either, it’s a shame the fates of Layne and Pete were both so sad and tragic but not surprising when you listen to their lyrics
I have seen a TON of Type O Negative live and had the honor of seeing Carnivore at Wacken in 2006 and some venue. I was also at Wacken at the camping site listening to this show. It would have been the last chance to see him but because his voice was so bad and obviously he was very drunk at the time and because of of that we did not go see them. It was very painful to hear him like that after seeing him with carnivore in the years before that and many times with Type O Negative.
Man dude loved that kill switch on his bass rip Peter you and Lemmy are kicking ass and taking names wherever you dudes are at have a jack and Coke and a bottle of wine for me
I swear I would cut my right arm off to see peter steele perform live R.I.P to the best human on this planet!! This guy is definitely in heaven! Who else writes a song like NETTIE
Didn't have to cut off my arm, but DID get to shake the Big Man's hand on the WCD tour and sit down with Johnny and Kenny and shoot the shit as best as a star-struck fan could backstage. Man I miss the Jolly Green Giant!

I miss PETER and may he rest in peace and I will never ever get sick of him or his music!!!!!! I listen to his music everyday and he is a amazing legend and he left us with a gift of music that will live forever!Thank you my friends for making comments about Peter Steal and his band, let's come together and keep his music alive and living forever!!!!!!!!!!!
I was there this year and stayed at the camping. His voice was actually already really bad. I remember it as it was the last time I actually could have seen him but didn't bother to go look as he was probably way too drunk that day. I saw him in carnivore the year before that at Wacken and at a venue and was surprised that he gained so much weight. And this year he actually lost a lot of weight. It was painful to hear him and see him like this. I was lucky to see them many times before that though and they never disappointed anyone. I think they have altered some of the audio.
I'm 37. I've seen many, many bands, from big names to underground shit. Pete died 2 weeks before I got out of the Marines. Had been listening to them since I was like 12 or 13 years old. Not having seen them is one of my biggest regrets in life. A close second to my choices that lead me into addictions. Same with Pantera, though I was too young by the time they split. I'm from DFW Texas, so the Pantera one stings in the fact that they came out of my stomping grounds. Now I'm in Ireland recently married to an Irish woman that I love to death! I'll die with the regret of having not seen those two bands. Best I can do at this point is try to catch bands like that feature members from those two bands. Anything with Phil, Rex, Kenny Hickey and Johnny Kelly. SHIT! Matter of fact, those 4 dudes should make a supergroup! You've even got the vocalist, bass player, guitar player and the drummer (respectively) amongst those 4 guys.
This is probably 1 of my favorite Type O songs and videos. I absolutely love it. There's is another video on youtube of this very performance. It's unmistakably this performance and it undeniably sucks. Want me to find if for you?
Aside from Pete being fuckin WASTED. The band sounds amazing. My favorite band of all time and Pete is a fucking legend but he's clearly wasted here lol.
Again, unless you have inside info your not disclosing, how would you know that??? You toured with the band?? You lived in Brooklyn area?? You want me to just take your word for it, and then you wonder why I question you?? Would you take something I said that wasn't common knowledge on faith?? Probably not. And as far as being obsessed, you've got me by a year or so, as I had never heard of them til late '96 or early '97. But on this we can agree: We're both obsessed, and and it's our favorite band, ok?? I'm not battling with you. They're the only band that matters to me, even nearly 20 years after I first read an article about them and (a little later) heard BK.

I am 64 and still listen to Type O Negative. Great music
This band was like doom, hardcore, and electronic goth all in one. Truly a missed band.
