Um... Actually this is really good. And its also pretty well recorded (which is HARD for recording engineers with bass trombone), but there's a bunch of sound engineering rough edges (the piano pedals, eg.) I actually broke out the headphone amp and studio cans for a second listen. Highlights of note are; the piano playing is awesome. And the slide work is awesome. This is a stitch on Fly or Die, but it's not the original version (as I'm aware) and it feels like musically it's missing bits. However, the synergy as a duet of piano and B-bone here is so good can't be mad. The audio glitches aside, the dynamics alone make this recording in this form absolute gold star level. I'd love to hear these two play the original. Even though I don't believe it has the same awesome piano part in some of those sections.
Chance, when you were a finalist with the West Point Band (as a Freshman!) and you played as well as you did, I knew you would be successful. This playing here is world class. And congrats on the Atlanta gig!
You need to have a laser air stream fast enough to cut diamonds , a tongue with more muscles than your quads and lips stronger than steal to pull this shit off. Absolute beast.
As a bass trombonist currently trying to learn this, how do you get your high range so clean? And the cleanliness of switching ranges?? And not to mention the lip trills, I can’t even begin to figure those out 😭 I have so many questions but just like HOW???? 😭😭😭😭
Play Long tones and invest in an Arban book. Also record and listen to your practices. This can help you catch a lot of problems that you might not notice while you play. Good luck!!!
@@plunger9165 - What did I write in the very next sentence? Now, look at the original edition from Marc Reift. This is an edited version, both the bass bone part as well as the piano part. But that's ok, it's still convincing and still excellent playing.
@@nessun8457 my bad for not telling y'all its not until april of next year. Thats why i wanted to get a copy of it early to practice as much as i can but so far i, able to play most of it the problem is i just need to put it together and speed up the tempo about 30 beats and it should be pretty good.
Tbh this doesn’t sound that good
Yeah okay
Mr Bread, thank you for your comment but this doesn’t change the fact that this is hot garbage
@@reynoldsmartin881 you seem to be the only one who thinks so
@@reynoldsmartin881 fly or die for trombone is a excellent piece
fr i am way better than this guy
No exaggeration, this video single handedly brought me to the choice of buying a bass trombone as a tuba player.
No exaggeration, I think this is the best Fly or Die i've ever heard!
Agreed. A stunning rendition!

haven’t heard lionel fumeaux yet then
You should hear Lionel Fumeax 😭he’s crazy 🧍
Those initial low notes were so tight!
Seriously, if you’re not too busy winning a job, think about becoming a full time soloist 😎
He won a one year position with the Atlanta Symphony! So… maybe he’ll still find time to do solo work and release some solos CDs still.
Incredible!!!!! Good to see you at ITF Chance!
you are honestly the best bass trombone player that i have ever heard, and i have heard this piece hundreds of times.
I'm just a bass trombone doubler, being mostly a euphoniumist, but this guy's flexibility, chops, and technique is right up there. Very impressed.

amazing tone, how long have you been playing?
Man I love this. I am a junior trombone player in high school, do you have any tips to get better besides practice? Love your content and playing.

Nice editing! Very convincing, but not the original version. But as such, excellent.

Where did you find this as a performance? Honestly< Those loud notes were taken just form nothing, there was not leading line to those notes
