    Me who just used icyprob alcohol
    At least all I have to do is like buy $50 of parts because I thought the phone was unreppairable so I smashed the screen that somehow still works after a big chunk of it came off. Also I had an iPhone 6 that I took in the shower and died after but I just wait like 3 weeks I think and it was back to normal besides the display that was messed up. Fun fact typing this too long of a comment of the same iPhone 6 but I practically replaced everything but the motherboard

    I dropped my iphone se in the bathtub the other day. I pulled it out and sat it upright on a tower while I thought about what to do next. Then I put my clothes on ran to the kitchen and graved some rice. After 1-2 hours I took my phone out of the rice and sat it on a radiator to make the water evaporate.after about an hour of that I put it on charge and went to bed. The next morning there was water damage on the screen but that just disappeared. My phone still worked the whole way through all those steps. Now my phone is back to normal. That was only 3 days ago.

    • @CellularMekanix
      @CellularMekanix  6 років тому +1

      No parts replaced in this vid. We have customers who are always curious about the process we go through when we are performing water damage restoration, so we made the video to take them through the steps. Often times you have to replace the battery when phones have water damage, sometimes charging flex, screen, camera, etc. We didn't really make the vid to just fix the phone, but to show the steps.

      @CellularMekanix  6 років тому

      You need a basic phone repair kit that would include a pentalobe screwdriver, phillips head size 00, a flat tip screwdriver, and a guitar pick would get the phone open. You would need an ultrasonic cleaner and Branson EC fluid. A soft bristle toothbrush, 91% or higher rubbing alcohol. We also use a hot plate or a preheating station to dry out the circuit boards quicker. It's not really worth doing it all yourself unless you plan on opening a shop and repairing more. It would be pretty cost prohibitive.

    • @timh511
      @timh511 5 років тому

      If it is still coming on but no image then most likely there is corrosion buildup around the LCD connector. That will need to be scrubbed off at a minimum and possibly the screen replaced.

      Did you clean fpc connector on the LCD, not just the circuit board? If that's the only issue it will likely be fixed with a new screen.

    Hi man, I’m new to fixing water damaged phones etc. Would you be able to tell me all the products you used including the machine? It’s an ultrasonic clearner right?
    Thank you!!

    • @CellularMekanix
      @CellularMekanix  6 років тому +3

      Yeah, we use an ultrasonic cleaner. Brand isn't a big deal, just make sure that you get one large enough that it will fit circuit boards for larger phones. If you want to do iPads or computers as well, you are going to have to get one that is much larger, but the larger you go the more you will pay. The one we have here works great and I think it was only about $150 or less when we bought it, but you can buy them for less than $100, just read reviews before you purchase. The rack we use to dry isn't really supposed to be used for that purpose...it is an old preheating station for soldering that we re-purposed as a circuit board drying rack. It just allows us to get them fully dry during the same work day sometimes, otherwise you always want to leave the board to dry overnight, and even then if you have some plates covering the components that you didn't de-solder, liquid can be trapped. I feel it is best to heat them. They also started selling "water damage repair machines," which are really just pressurized ovens that will evaporate water quickly...they don't actually do anything about the corrosion, but I have considered purchasing one because you can dry out the board in just a few minutes. The fluid we use is called Branson EC. We buy it by the gallon and a gallon lasts for months. We get it from a company called All-Spec and it costs about $35. Otherwise, just a soft bristle tooth brush would give you a basic kit. To go more advanced you would need an entire soldering rig and microscope, but for most people just having the ultrasonic, the fluid, some alcohol and a toothbrush, and somewhere to dry the boards out will work just fine.

      Use at least 91% rubbing alcohol and you can do at least most of the steps. It will not erase anything. There are forensic data recovery businesses that can still recover the info from your device, even if it isn't repairable.

    ok so my iphone 6s screen turned black for the second time, becuase i got a few droplets of water on the screen , mind you its cracked badly. the first time it went black its because of the same tings, it was raining and some droplets got on the screen. I left it out and alone the first time to air dry and it didnt turn back on until 2 weeks. now that i accidentally got water on my screen again I now put it in rice. to quicken the process. I don't have the tools you have to fix my phone or money to take it to get repaired so this is the next best option, any advice please? i would really like my phone to turn back on soon

      Rusty screws are the worst. I've tried baking soda, rubber bands, and all of the other tricks found online. Sometimes I've just taken the whole phone minus the screen assembly and dropped it in the ultrasonic. But the truth is, if there is that much rust in the phone, it probably isn't coming back anyway.

    • @CellularMekanix
      @CellularMekanix  6 років тому

      First thing is disassemble it and check for corrosion. After a month there isn't likely to be any moisture in the phone still, but corrosion is what would be the most damaging. You can use rubbing alcohol and a soft bristled toothbrush to remove it.

    hey man i recently messed up my i phone in sea water ... i let it dry thoroughly and then replaced the battery, port and began to fit the old existing screen to the i phone six when i was hearing an audio crackle from the screen, i quickly removed this and put another old existing screen on the i phone six which hasn't been water damaged and still getting the audio crackle. i did have life in it for all of a few seconds but quickly disconnected the screen to prevent further i phone damage. is there anyway in cleaning the board with alcohol etc and without using all these tools as i dont have the facilities for this. my main priority is just to get my data off my phone and the rest is a bonus. drop me a private message if you can help a brother out ! cheers.

    • @CellularMekanix
      @CellularMekanix  6 років тому

      Just scrub it with 93% or better rubbing alcohol and a soft bristle toothbrush. That's the best advice for someone without tools. You can also soak the board in a bowl in the rubbing alcohol. In sea water your board likely has salt on the board which is causing shorts, so clean that up and see what happens.

      Cellular Mekanix hey bro, I have a 1 month old iPhone XS and it took a little trip with me to the shower. I believe that only the screen is messed up but I’m not sure. I really don’t have the cash to spend so I was wondering if you could help. I really need you man and i live across the country. The phone has just been sitting in rice and. The screen had green lines before I decided to shut it down. Then it won’t start up and I’ve tried everything. Should I open it up and try the rubbing alcohol or something. Please reply or contact me at hashbrown66666@gmail.com
