India Today's Special Investigation Team posed as retail shopkeepers from Delhi, looking to purchase ghee in bulk ahead of the festive season. Through a series of contacts, the team met Vishnu Varshney, a bulk supplier based in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Vishnu assured them he could package the ghee in duplicate cartons of popular brands, including Amul. He offered the ghee at ₹240 per kilogram, far below the standard price of over ₹600 per kilogram for branded desi ghee. The investigation revealed that the booming ghee industry in India, worth ₹3.2 lakh crore in 2023, with expected growth to ₹6.9 lakh crore by 2032, fuels such adulteration schemes due to high profit margins. Vishnu provided a sample of the adulterated ghee, which resembled real ghee but was made of hydrogenated vegetable oil, refined oil, and the essence of desi ghee. Vishnu openly admitted that his product contained no real ghee, only refined oil and Dalda. He also showcased duplicate Amul cartons and claimed he could package the fake ghee in cartons of other reputed brands like Paras and Madhusudan. This investigation exposes the rampant adulteration in the ghee market, urging consumers to stay vigilant when purchasing branded ghee.

Amul packaging for Milk & Ghee has remained unchanged for decades . Same for all top brands.. No effort by Companies to add to or change the packaging in some way to deter the underhand market that has emerged as a profitable business by just copying the packaging .
Govt. Must act what food Admitistration is doing?
It has amul hologram 😅
Do people even know what's a hologram ? Do they know what the original hologram looks like? Many will reply 'No'
I purchase 1000 per kg but 100% home made , guranteed..
Milk is commonly adulterated with all kinds of stuff that even make thick cream . Mostly its filled in packets that look same as the original brand. That's easier than tampering & adulterating original packets full of milk.
