My theory for Merlin being the 'Mage of Flowers' is that he is sometimes depicted as a druid, and he also has a lot of Flowers named after him. Thus as a nod to both, the developers just made him a Mage that uses flowers in his magic.
Also, it's interesting to see him use Excalibur is some of his attack animations.

I always though he was using Caliburn with the logic being that Artoria is using Excalibur and the old sword was essentially collecting dust, so he might as well use it.

Honestly I think hes the Magus of flowers because thers so many flowers named after him. Thats probably all there is too it. But if I had to take a guess WHY thers so many flowers named after Merlin perhabs in older times it was belived those plants had magical/medical propertys and thus where named after one of the most famous mages. Its also entirley possible that whoever inventet Merlin WAS inspired by the name of those flowers depending when they where named.

Something I'm surprised you didn't mention is that the merlin we interact with isn't so much a servant but merlin's little illusionary puppet, as since he's still in Avalon, and therefore alive, he hasn't entered the throne, just like hes still supposedly alive in the cave/tower he is imprisoned in. All the shenanigans he does in story is him poking his head out with illusions.

Bar Babylonia ofc. As he wasn’t born yet so due to being engraved in the Throne despite having never died he was able to be summoned. That being said bros a fuckin S tier troll. Had he told Chaldea of his status as a Grand servant they’d probably be on guard for a beast and less surprised by Tiamat. Hell all the fuckin Grand servants except Hassan and Romulus were stupid trolly imo, Orion could’ve tipped them off to the presence of a beast in Atlantis/Olympus tipping them off to Koyanskaya’s true nature, and Merlin once again didn’t do shit but he a troll.

It's more like puppet body for Merlin. The Merlin we have in chaldea is the original Merlin, just the body is not from the original. The term is like Merlin having VR where He can play in Chaldea while having his real body still in Avalon. (Literally another nod to how OP Merlin can be)

To clear up Arthurs conception in Fate, Uther was not lusting after Igraine here he was a King that feared his own downfall, he had special powers but was said that it would die out with him. So he came up with the idea siring an heir with dragon blood, he choose to mary Igraine, who was not mentioned to be already married, just being a princess or Queen from a rival kingdom, the marriage happened much earlier since Uther and Igraine had Morgan, so he was her blood related father and not Gorlois, the duke of Cornwall....later Merlin used magic called conceptional fertilization to create the raw Material of Arthur/Artoria by combining the blood from the parents with dragons blood...He did it because he thought it was the best at that time, and due to his inhuman nature.

The Caster class might be a slam dunk but in Fate specifically he might also be summonable as a Saber. He's noted as the one who taught King Arthur swordsmanship and he is also noted to actually be better at channeling his magic through weapons than he is simply casting spells. The guy was able to slice and dice through monsters which many Sabers would struggle with while still being just a Caster class. Imagine how scary he would be in combat if he was a class better suited for it?

It's unclear whether or not proper human history is aware that Merlin was every bit as capable as the Knights of the Round Table in swordsmanship and actually fought alongside them against Fou. If not, then sadly it seems unlikely for him to qualify. However, the possibility still exists for that to change and as long as that fame exists at some point in the timeline, it should be possible for Saber Merlin to be summoned due to how the Throne works.

God I need to watch the Merlin series again.
On a side note there’s a slightly different story (edit a latin poem) for Merlin it’s called Vita Merlini ( I do not know how old this story is or all the details so take this with a side of salt.) I just vaguely remember a story where after the battle of Camlann Merlin went mad, so I’m unsure if this was the one I read) long story short Merlin fought in the battle of Camlann and it leans more into the trauma of the aftermath basically Merlin had PTSD.
Also fun fact: Tristan’s rank up quest (or interlude can’t remember which one) he mentions the vorpal bunny from Monty python.

My personal theory is that Bors, the knight killed by the rabbit, is already in Fate.
We don't know all of Watcher's Shadows in Fate/Strange Fake yet, but from the ones we do know, or can be confident about knowing (Asclepius, Captain Ahab, Amelia Earhart), there's a common denominator: They all sought to oppose nature, and paid with their lives. Additionally we see the knight Shadow react negatively when Monty Python is brought up, so I'd say it makes sense.

Merlin may not be inaccurate enough to get the full roast, but it would have been satisfying if it had happened! For real, though, I think Merlin falls into the same problem other figures like some of the Greek gods (Zeus in particular) fall into: recognizing non-consensual acts for how horrific they are is a fairly recent development in human society. A lot of older cultures just kind of treated those things as just things people sometimes do, unfortunately. (On a related note, I'm glad they went with a more consensual interpretation of Europa's myth, because I was initially a little horrified that she had that mecha bull with her all the time, given the version of the story I was familiar with) I've definitely been seeing a lot of re-evaluation of some of these myth in recent years, which I feel is ultimately for the best. I've even been seeing Medusa used as a symbol of unity for survivors, which I appreciate. And a lot of myths were originally passed down orally, so the details are vague and a bit malleable, so I feel it would be perfectly fine to reinterpret some myths either by dropping some uncomfortable details, or by reworking it a bit to acknowledge that the heroes sometimes do awful things too.

      @CrazyYurie  10 місяців тому +12

I'm a bit mixed on covering up the uglier deeds some of these characters have done. On the one hand, covering them up makes it more palatable to audiences. After all, if your characters are all terrible people, then there's nobody to root for and people can end up not caring. More than a few franchises have fallen into that particular trap. On the other hand, I do feel it to be important that people know about a full character - good and bad. Too often I see people champion something by highlighting all of its good traits, but then blatantly ignoring or denying the bad ones. This doesn't just apply to works of fiction, of course, but current events in the real world too. I have a very big problem with that - I'm of the belief that if you are going to stand with something, then you have to recognize its imperfections too.

1 The idea that SA is a heinous crime being recent is wrong, I'm not gonna fault you too much, but you have access to the internet.
Different cultures in Europe reacted in different ways to SA. See: Hue and Cry laws and their meaning.
Ancient(er) history: the word Stuprum is what Julius Caesar himself designated as crime, with its description being "Forced SI against anyone", this also protected children, which is not universal in all laws against SA.
      These are some examples.
The modern world is not virtuous. But we love to pretend we are better than the past, because we drone strike instead of use Oubliettes or chemical warfare (which Russia for one, despite claiming they don't use and have signed off against, keep using in secret, same with the USA although to a lesser degree)
2 The idea that the gods we worship must be good is what's a "recent" idea. Which is why we told stories of gods doing heinous things, because people do them. There are entire university courses only meant to combat the Problem of Evil. But in the greek pantheon no such thing was needed. The gods do good as they do evil.
Many people see the myth of medusa being SAd for one, and don't know most of the time it's a specific roman poet's version (the one where medusa is punished for being SAd by apollo), who rewrote a lot of myths and stories during his exile, making the gods seem more dickish than they are because he was pissed about being in exile.

It makes sense in an uniform anime world, but these heroes are supposed to look like people from history.
