When my parents built their house, i helped to lift cement and sand mix up to the decking. Even though I was in my earlier teen age, I enjoyed the experience. Today I am independent.

Well done on that Dr Apoki. Only Nigerian middle classes and rich think getting their children to work hard or learn manual skills is punishment.
In Europe, people do DIY, paint homes, fix things around the home, gardening, do all sorts of things, and they won't call workmen because they have learnt to do it themselves. Plus it keeps them fit and mentally sharp.
Here we will be waiting for the poor to do all the work, and eventually become so de-skilled and usleess to society.
