Duchess Kate's army dog slip-up on St Patrick's Day

- The Duchess of Cambridge gives out shamrocks to soldiers from the Irish Guards on St Patrick's Day, but has problems with their mascot dog when his shamrocks would not stay on his collar. At this time Kate was pregnant with her second child.
Catherine's smile could warm the coldest day. She is so genuine and kind to everyone she meets.

@@Minime163 There is a little irish in a lot of us, so be magnanimous! Besides, it makes for a nice little celebration in the dead of winter... therefore a little shamrock never hurts... except for a poor mishandled dog on a drill courtyard.

I'm not quite sure why people regard this as work. Looks a very good life style, for cutting ribbons, laying garlands etc. Just smile n say the right words. How taxing can that be in a day.

Spectacular!. Tradition, protocol, decorum and sense of duty can never be underestimated. The Duke and Duchess are unsurpassable in there dedication to the unity of the Common Wealth. I'm so glad I'm alive to witness this. We will survive and they will give us the metal to do so.

Looks like a young dog, new to the job.Basically no different from normal puppy training, learning to walk at heel is pretty fundamental. These mascots live with their handlers, are very well looked after and often stay with them at home after retirement. Dogs feel compelled to vie for leadership by getting in front, but are happiest when they find their place in the pack and dog training is based on that.

that soldier's hat was so wonky, floppy. He walked kind of weird I thought. No offense, it just seemed odd. Felt he was over correcting the dog, too. But, wish them well.

@@sharonsmith7085 It's good that you care. The Brits make a lot of laws to protect animals/pets so I'm thinking they might take very good care of this dog and other military dogs. Maybe not in a home, but in a good kennel. But, I don't know.

I don't see any centenarian retired (human) officers being hauled around in handcuffs by minders (in case they bolt, having forgotten their orders) so that Kate can stick shamrocks in their neck braces. Anyway, it's extremely rare for dogs to "forget" their training. It seems this poor guy was never properly taught to walk at heel, on or off-lead. If he's retired, let him live in peace and comfort - luxury! - he's earned it!! I'm sure there are plenty of Irish Wolfhounds who could take over his duties. Maybe this was meant as an honor for him, but >he< can't understand such things, and doesn't look happy. : (

The Irish Wolfhound's handler should have been fired immediately.
As an American, it's hard to remember that the Garryowen was a British/Irish march first. We associate the march with the U.S. Cavalry, and the 7th U.S. Cavalry regiment and the 1st U.S. Cavalry Division (armored) in particular.
BTW, that mascot is a fine example of an Irish wolfhound.
