He was easily the most underrate SF in the NBA for years and it still pisses the shit outa me to this day that Portland traded him. Especially seeing as how we did that just so that we could free up cap space to resign LA and LA didn't even stay! God that just killed me, the two were my favorite guys on the team and the true heart and soul of it back then, not Lillard. Lillard was/is fantastic, easily one of the greatest scoring PG's to ever play the game no doubt, but the fact of the matter was - during those two pivotal years of 2012 and especially 2013 Portland was stacked with guys who could score. Sure LA was and Batum were really the only guys who could routinely give you 20 or more a night, but we had a slew of guys who easily could drop double figures and in a myriad of ways. Back then we really needed someone who could certainly score if needed but was more of a pass-first PG, something like a Terry Porter, a Rod Strickland, an Andre Miller, or a Kenny Anderson - rather than a scorer who also happened to be a decent passer - which is what Lillard was. But of course, the real problem that last year we had LA and Batum, the one where we easily should have made it to the finals in 2013, was the ridiculous amount of injuries. I seriously can't think of another team in the history of the league that had so many of it's players miss large parts of the year as that Blazers team did. Batum missed a bunch early on, LA missed a number of game in the middle of the year, Lopez also missed a chunk of games about a third of the way through the season, then Matthews went down about two weeks or so after we made the brilliant trade bringing in Afflolo and missed the rest of the year, and then Afflolo himself got hurt with a month to go prior to the start of the playoffs, followed soon after by Dorell Wright who had stepped up when Aaron went down - also got hurt and missed the rest of the year. That like two week or so period before Wesley Matthews got hurt, when everybody was healthy, Portland absolutely crushed everybody they played. We had Lillard, Matthews, Batum, LA, and Lopez as starters, then Afflolo was the sixth man, followed by Kamen, (who was certainly a goon and not the best defender, but had amazing post moves and was a great offensive spark off the bench along with also doing pretty well starting when Lopez was hurt), then we had Steve Blake, Allen Crabbe, Meyers Leonard, Dorell Wright, and a guy whom you mighta heard of before - CJ McCollum - all coming off the bench. Like i said, none of them were superstars or anything, (well, CJ ended up becoming one later), but all of them were really solid players. To this day as a whole team, i consider that to be one of the deepest teams in NBA history, even though there literally was only about two weeks where it was able to truly show just how good it was. And then for that offseason to lose pretty much EVERYBODY from that team was absolutely gut-wrenching. To lose The best all-around PF in the NBA in LA, someone who had the post moves, shooting ability, and athleticism of Rasheed Wallace - but also being someone who wanted to be the go to man and wasn't so overly unselfish like Sheed was, was something the team just never recovered from. LA may not have been as great of a defender as Sheed but he definitely was a little better on the boards to boot. While then losing Lopez, a great role-playing center, Kaman, Matthews and of course - Batum, was a nail in the coffin. I love Lillard, but there is no way i would have kept him over the combination of LA and Batum, especially when you had Blake and McCollum still. Batum was not only a phenomenal scorer, someone with great driving ability and athleticism to finish, but then an equally as deadly outside and pull-up jumper, he also happened to be imo the single most underrated on-ball defender at the SF in the whole league. He never got credit for it, but with his ridiculous length, he also had amazing quickness and agility and a couple years earlier was so good that he gave Steve Nash fits in the playoffs, back when Nash was still in his prime. He also did a great job on Lebron whenever we played him. Then to top it off he was easily one of the best 3 or so passers at SF to boot! Portland's never been the same without him and all those other guys, so much so that i literally haven't watched a game since.
@@8301TheJMan he’s older but he’s probably one of the most versatile defenders in the league that can guard 1-5 and can pass, rebound and is a knockdown shooter
I mean is that what you base Batum on? His shooting? He's a versatile defensive and offensive player who's a great passer who steals the ball and gets blocks. And you're saying he's not underrated cuz he's an inconsistent shooter? What about everything else he does that only few guys in the league are capable? Even on games where he didn't shoot the ball well he still gave you like 5 assists with a block or 2. Same with steals. He's underrated.
if not with the nagging wrist injury batum could have scored a lot like he did in the 1st half of the season then he switch to passing until the end of the season and most of those assist are shown at the end of this video. I heard he is busy putting up weights i expect him to have a bigger body like lebron james this coming season
james can defend on post4 like griffin or love. batum no but for defend on post3 like paul george or durant or kobe I think is the one of the best of the league and is still better than james
Jason Bourne and batum is better than lebron's defense in the regular season just cuz lebron isnt consistent in his defense in the regular season, however lebron has amazing D in everygame in the playoffs. But for the dpoy, lebron has a better shot of winning than batum cuz of how popular he is
Man, this guy can score a hell of 3 points! And has nice blocks as well...Good player for Portland.
yeah he only averages like 13-14 points but he gets like 7 boards and 4 assists a game. great defender too
one of my most favourite players batum hes underated he deserves more credit for what he brings on the court
One of the most underrated players in the league
People just only focus on those who dunk with Athleticism

Batum would be perfect for your current team. A closing 5 of Dame/CJ or Powell/Covington/Batum/LNJ could hang with any team
@@bjsw534 True! Wish we still had him, i mean - he's pretty old now, but still a very solid all around player
@@8301TheJMan he’s older but he’s probably one of the most versatile defenders in the league that can guard 1-5 and can pass, rebound and is a knockdown shooter
Lots of amazin shots and strong drivins by batum.just a great player

He was dealing with a wrist injury in the second half of the season thats why he wasn't shooting as much in the second half of the season.
I see why the Hornets took a chance on him . Good shooter, great on defense, shot blocker, finish at the rim

If I remember it correctly that was J J Hickson, sometimes Meyers Leonard as well.
If they had prime ad on them
@@MirmoyKikoy They were.

Batum doesn't like Rockets :/
He's not that under rated... He's really inconsistent. He's a good player just needs to show up and hit shots night after night
Haha I bet the Rockets hate him
and overpaid
studying batum's shot for nba 2k14
He's a very smart player,
He is not an all star because he scores only 15 pt but he is à great defender . I think better than durant and James or Anthony in défense
I think james is still a better defender but def better then durant n melo
james can defend on post4 like griffin or love. batum no but for defend on post3 like paul george or durant or kobe I think is the one of the best of the league and is still better than james
Anthony Oo lol batum is definitely better than lebron in defense. even durant was better than lebron in defense this year
Jason Bourne Well i dont think durant plays better defense than lebron, he def got better but doesnt play def like lebron
Jason Bourne and batum is better than lebron's defense in the regular season just cuz lebron isnt consistent in his defense in the regular season, however lebron has amazing D in everygame in the playoffs.
But for the dpoy, lebron has a better shot of winning than batum cuz of how popular he is
Batum hates the Rockets lol.
I guess he doesnt like the rockets
Natural athleticism combined with great skill and sense on both ends of the court. Talk about a scary player.
Batum has this fade away 3 cheese ability!
underrated player
