I grow carrots in north central
Florida from September - may or so. Sometimes I have luck sneaking seeds in between tomato plants or under a sunflower plant. Also experimented with a bed I made under one of my larger palm trees which blocks the harsh mid day sun. Lot of work to grow carrots in the summer in Florida but it’s possible.

@@HomegrownFloridaZ9a it’s really effective if you can get two plants that jive together. I have a Seminole pumpkin growing up one of my palm trees and it’s the strongest pumpkin plant that I have.

I have a new 8x2 area filled with homemade compost I've been waiting for the end of September. I was traveling earlier. I didn't know you could start in Aug. I grew them last year and were small. As you've said...learning

Starting in August can be hit or miss. It really depends on when the nighttime temperatures start to drop a little and it definitely helps if u have other plants in the bed that gives lots of shade. Some of mine didn’t germinate but the ones in the back did because I had left a bean bush there to shade them a bit. 😀

You are absolutely fabulous. What stores do you usually do your grocery shopping at? Do you stock up on water? Can you possibly do some in store grocery shopping videos? I think it would be awesome if you could show how you do your full shopping trip

Well, I tried to grow carrots, but I really goofed up. I am going to start again and make sure I cover them until they start to germinate. Petrina, you are such a wonderful teacher.

If you would take the time to plant the seeds two inches apart in the first place, you wouldn't need to thin them....as much. Leaf mold is the best mulch by far, and what we use to grow all of our vegetables in with the RS method. Of course, we live in New England where leaves just blanket the ground every fall.
