  • Following the Prime Minister's announcement that she will be legislating for a new generation of English 'faith' schools to discriminate by religion in 100% of places, BHA Chief Executive Andrew Copson was on the BBC's Sunday Morning Live to debate the proposals with three supporters of 'faith' schools.
These changes are sure to have an extremely negative impact on the future of British society, which will be felt across the whole of the UK. If you believe that children should learn by side by side in mixed environments, where they receive a balanced education, you can take action on this issue at humanism.org.uk/100selection.

This simply would not fly with any other set of ideologies.
I want to open a "communist school". Marxist children should be educated in the Communist Manifesto amongst comrades.
It's not discriminatory, because our communist school is "paired" with the nearby "flat Earther" school. We have a shared Halloween disco in the local sports hall, where our young comrades can learn all about flat Earth beliefs.
And, this year, we're integrating with the local feminist "all girls" school for sports day.
Hey, why should supernatural beliefs get special privilege?
    Teach the controversy.

There's the University of Sussex, for a start.

Religious education should include teaching about all faiths and alternatives like humanism. Single faith schools have no place in the state system. They encourage a narrow world view and are divisive.

"Religious education should include teaching about all faiths and alternatives like humanism."
Religious education is indoctrination and brainwashing, forced upon the child by their parents.
Morality is to do what is right regardless of what you are told.
Religion is to do what you are told regardless of what is right.
Religion is the root of all evil.

It should be noted that all the sorrows of this world can be laid at the feet of god and his cultists
What religion is taught in school?
Sleeping with your daughters ? Condoning slavery? Homophobia?
The rape of children the Spanish Inquisition?
Show them George Carlin Ricky gervaise Christopher hitchens Eddie izzard Stephen Frye and Francesca Stranopolus to have a balanced an intelligent reasonable view instead of the homophobic mysogonistic patriarchal racism that religions are.
It gets my vgoat that my taxes pay for yeshivas that do extreme harm to young minds and brain washes them to be whiney victims.
The minute religions start paying taxes and stop interfering with free and fair elections to maintain the separation of church and state.
      Fuck them .

richard dawkins went to an islamic school one day (only faith school he asked that said yes btw) and he was talking to a group of kids with there science teacher. a student asked a question about evolution. and the science teacher either couldn't answer it or refused to. dawkins then answered the students question.
what place does scientific knowledge have in faith schools. especially if the science contradicts the faith.

The dictionary I have defines discipline as a branch of knowledge. The question I bring is, what branch of knowledge is going to be taught. What ever happened to reading, writing, arithmetic and history, after all history is full of injustice done in the name of religion. If people want to teach their children about religion shouldn't that be up to the parents. If you ask me the state should stay out of the religion business and parents should take more active role in their child's education. If religion is taught in schools it should be the history of all religion's and how they came to be. And don't exclude all the death from religious wars, slavery that went on due to other being perceived as savages, lesser than. When people understand the history of religion they come to understand just how savage it is, I can do without a god like that.

How these pompous gits pontificate and talk down to everyone is their misguided belief that we are medieval peasants that don't know any better and will burn in hell for eternity if we question their authority.
Well those days are numbered , the established churches catholic and protestant are seething that the mega evangelicals are cutting into their cash cow and are getting away with fraud .

The two monotheisms that have half of the world in clutches, these are the cults that have to be addressed and monitored most - especially Islam since it's a younger religion and hence more petulant, rabid and hostile to anyone practicing critical free speech against it.

I disagree with all of these people because faith based schools DO NOT admit 'believers' and are not instituted to cater for the kids but rather cater to their parent's biased religious desires. Children are not, by definition, 'believers' of any faith - they are children and being manipulated by their parents and the religion of their parents. I usually admire Andrew Copson but not today.

The atheistic secularist narrative is also not devoid from indoctrination either. Most of the topics you have mentioned such as gender identity are social constructs within liberal secularist societies that have zero substantive backing even on a scientific level. Surely teaching your kids that there are actually 10+ genders is also a form of indoctrination?
At faith schools, moral values within religion take precedence. Why is this wrong? How can you say that your set of morals are better from a securalist perspective without even questioning the source of said morals? Needless to say, the entire concept of liberal secularism necessarily require its moral goalposts to constantly expand in order to accommodate new and popular emerging lifestyles. And anyone that refuses this is accused of being divisive.
I'm not here to defend child abuse or malfunctioning buildings of course not but this country prides itself on freedom of expression and belief so where do you draw the line?

Nobody's business where parents choose to send their kiss to school. Whether I agrée with the religion taught or any religion for that matter doesn't mean a thing. The existence of religious schools may have it's liabilities, but I fear far more putting that level of power into the hands of "well meaning" bureaucrats to "restructure" society for us. Nobody should be given that much power. I can choose whether or not to attend a church, mosque, or synogague or reject faith altogether. If bureaucrats are given this much power, I have no choice but to live under them and pay taxes to support them. And they won't stop with regulating my choices on religion. They are "better" than me afterall. They know better than me how to run my own life.
