Has anyone realized how dark the story this song is based on is? Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe is about a crazy psychopath killing someone and then hiding the dismembered corpse under the floorboards.
Wow I remember going over this story Language Arts like 3 times. I don't know why, I kind of liked the story. But at the same time, it was just annoying to me. His insanity is just so out of nowhere that I just can't reason it. Other than the beating of the dead person's heartbeat getting louder to him, some other parts of his insanity was just kind of random. But I guess, that's what being crazy does to you. Some things aren't meant to be made sense of. In any story, I always try to sympathize and empathize with the character(s) given, putting myself in their shoes. And when I was in that dude's shoes. It was just so annoying. He was fine, he had the cops fooled. But.. he focused on the stupid non-existant heartbeat that just grew loud and louder with his own rising guilt. Stupid main character. If you're going to regret it that much, why even go through the trouble of opening the door just a little bit every night or whatever. It's so painstakingly annoying and frustrating for me. But I also kind of liked it. So crazy and annoying that I liked it. I don't know what I'm trying to say. It was an interesting story, and Edgar Allen Poe was an interesting dude, I feel bad for him though. ALSO, I didn't know that this sone was based on that. I can totally see it now though, it's literally in some of the lyrics. 'tell tale heart', 'tear the floorboards', etc. Awesome.
