+Let the Quran Speak: Assalamu Alaykum Dr Shabbir Ally: can you address the issue of privacy in Islam, is it allowed to spy people ? if yes on what extent and if not then spying companies are Halal or Haram? and should one work in such company? Jazak ALLAH, Salam
+147852369 what i meant was it is understandable to spy or investigate someone who you doubt or who is a potential criminal, or may be in a war situation you spy on enemies. but now a days companies tracking every move of all people regardless of being criminal or not, every move online is being watched, gsm calls, sms being recorded, cameras everywhere on streets, and there is almost zero privacy for a common man, Advertising companies want to know what people are doing to give them right ads, fashion industry want to know it to give them proper products agencies want that data to ease there post crime investigations governments want that data to "democratically" change people's opinions on certain things by tv shows and "debates" ... etc... i wanted to know what Islam says about it, about all kind of spying, what purpose can spying be Halal in islam and what purposes are Haram, and can we work in a company to aid in sying which is spying for haram reasons?
May Allah help us all and protect us jazakallah kairan
