Wow, I finally made it. I am trendy now. I have been Grandma Core my whole life. I have lived in the same house for 53 years that was built in 1958. 90% of my furniture belonged to my grandparents and parents from the 1930s to 1950s. I have a large yard with lots of birds and wildlife coming through. My big garden provides most of my produce and I enjoy relaxing by the fish pond and reading a good real book. Almost everything I eat is made from scratch and I have always done needlework, crochet, and sewing. My clothes are mostly floral and I have wallpaper in my kitchen. I even have those doilies and scarves on my dining room buffet. Throw in my two cats I am trendy all the way.

Ten years ago this was called Granny Chic in terms of design. It is my favorite of all time. Granny Chic has been my astheric since childhood. Who can pass up a good doily? My fashion style is basically Rose Nyland. The best thing about this style is nothing you have ever goes out of style. It is mix and match over and over.

Holy cow! I'm actually cool! I met the neighbors while walking my dog, I share my garden bounty with them. I crochet, craft and love thrifting and love to cook and bake. I looked around my house and realized my furniture is (mostly)all pre-loved from friends and family. My friends and family look forward to hand made gifts from me and even request I make something for them to give as gifts also.

Hi Sarah, this was a wonderful video to watch. I especially loved the vintage pictures you included and I took pictures of them for inspiration. During the pandemic, I learned how to quilt and have made several for family and friends. A thrift store is a great way to gather flower pattern sheets that can be made into quilts, aprons, etc. I guess I need to embrace my inner gramma. While growing up, I remember my grandmother who lived to be 102 and my mom who is about to celebrate her 90th birthday, make everything from scratch, including dessert every night after dinner. Take care.

I think whether we are wearing floral dresses and having lots of knick nacks is definitely the Grandmacore Aesthetic, that maybe just the frugal lessons that so many of our grammy's passed down (even great grammy's) are what's most important.

  • @tonytrott8305

Loved the video. I am Grandma Core at heart. I am in my 60s, and find that most used items are better. My used sofa , chair and ottoman are floral, and are beautiful. I look for items at thrift stores first before buying new. I love vintage tablecloths, cloth napkins, and dishes. This is such a comforting style to embrace. I think it is more important to make your own style instead of looking to see what is trending, because that gets expensive, and is always changing. Investing in comfortable, homey items is always in style.

I spoke to a buyer from Target one time just met her in her social situation and we were talking about this turns out Target chooses four colors every year and makes an entire line and the next year the colors don't "quite" go with what you already have so it's off to the store again. I figured this out a long time ago and bought myself a good set of white dishes from a thrift store and some good cut glasses and that is my style and I decorate around it with thrift store tablecloths or flowers but I'm not changing my kitchen over every quote on quote "season" for targets pocketbook. the things that are grandma core, vintage tend to be quality and quality lasts and can be had for a song at a thrift store.

I have a small kitchen table and 2 chairs. I don't need something bigger. Got it curbside shopping. That's also how I got my desk and a chair that's sitting in front of my wood stove. It's one of my favorite places to relax with a book.
If you have a county park in your area, check to see if they have any nature programs. They may be cheap or even free.
Check with your local library to see if they have any classes or groups that teach crafts. There's one near me that has a knit/crochet group most Tuesdays. If you don't know how to do either, they'll teach you. They may also have charities that they will donate to. Don't know how many baby blankets I've crocheted for a NICU.
My bedroom furniture belonged to my grandparents.

My grandmother was all about MCM, from the late 50's and 60's. I do a mix of Victorian, MCM and country... It is pretty eclectic. Frugality has been a staple in our home and I have carried it into my home. Thrifting; hobbies, clothing, furniture, and home decor is second nature to me. Thanks for touching on this.

I’m recently learning that people don’t cook anymore. I taught myself to cook when I was college. I realized I was hungry and poor. I’ve always cooked since then. No matter how busy life gets with teenaged boys! I’m also teaching my boys the basics in the kitchen. They will not go hungry, and always be able to take care of themselves!

This is really huge being able to control your kitchen costs are huge to being Frugal and saving money. I feed my freezer like a beast an in turn she spits out amazing bits and bobs to create fabulous cheap meals that take care of us. I'm super interested in making basics I learned how to make my own almond milk I learned how to make my own Bisquick mix and my own vegetable stock. I have to say having a good pantry is 90% in the fight against overspend at the grocery and with inflation being what it is it absolutely makes sense to have a good pantry case in point a pizza from the local pizza place cost us $50 I was shocked and you better believe that night I figured out how to make pizza dough which I have stocked in the freezer and a really fabulous pizza sauce also stocked in the freezer and to buy mozzarella chubs and great my own cheese. I make my own hand pies and pizzas for pennies now and the truth is they have less chemicals and taste better and it just takes a little bit of time but if you use your freezer wisely it can be super fast. Grandma's knew this and we all need to relearn it.

@@saraconklinfrozenpennies I’m going to be 59 and a grandma to 4 little gals and am trying to NOT look like a grandma, lol. But I honestly enjoy all of your videos and do learn many wonderful things. My nephew is getting married, he’s 22 and his fiancé is 21. They just bought a home that was built in the early 50s and it’s been the same family that has lived there. They are giving them all of the furniture and they are delighted with it. I thought about this when I warmtched the video and it showed that home sweet home needle work Kit. Cool project buuutttt...my grandmother took flour sacks, washed them cut them up and drew with a pencil and stitched over her drawing. She also made her own tatting. So basically super artistic without a 13.99 "kit" ...it's OK to learn to stich a flower and do so onto a sleeve or t-shirt neckline, just because we live in a consumer society is not a reason to keep buying. Our grand learned out to make do, use it up or make it last..they made beautiful comforting homes without wallets. ♥️ it can be done, I think grandma core at its heart is literally a reflection of their frugality and the beautifying of their lives with those parameters. Save and let your creativity flourish.

Lol my great grandmother was born in 1901. She expected us kids to use the same bathwater (we took turns but the water wasn't changed). When we kids finished she used that water. Did I mention she only filled it with 4 inches of water? 😂She said it's how they did baths back in the day so if it was good enough then it was fine now. She passed in 1985. She always had a butterscotch hard candy in her pocket to give to us kids. Lovely memories.

Grandma Core. Who knew? Most of my furniture belonged to my grandparents and parents from the 1950s which I inherited. I had given away all of my own furniture when I had to unexpectedly had to move into my father's house to care for him. Furniture includes a buffet, china cabinet, a dining table with shied back chairs, a vanity, and beautiful solid wood end tables and chest of drawers. My bathroom and bedroom are both done in vintage rose patterns. Becoming trendy grandma. :)

I have the Grandma decor: My TV sits on a 'library table' made by my Great Grandfather over 100 years ago. My stereo system is on pieces of singer treadle sewing machine reconstructed into a table without the sewing head. The footstool with the needlepoint flowers covering was made by my maternal grandfather. The cedar chest in my bedroom was made by my paternal grandfather. (Growing up in High Point, NC that is the home to the largest Furniture Market trade show, and where my forefathers made furniture, has its advantages.) My bedroom has a maple triple dresser that I special ordered in 1981. It's a classic look. I had the good sense to marry my late husband, who was a better cook than I am. My son is a chef. I avoid cooking if I can. lol

ROFL. My grandmothers preferred what was in fashion, including split skirts (culottes), fitted twin sets and blouses, and one grandma was the first to wear pantsuits.
One grandma could not cook her way out of a boiling kettle of water. However, she knew all about delivery before Uber Eats ever existed. "Don't cook to tonight, call Chicken Delite!" She knew every delicatessen in her neighborhood, and which bakery had the best rolls, bread, cookies or cakes.
But the other grandma did knit and crochet, and did cook comfort food. This grandma once made each of her granddaughters both crocheted vests AND ponchos- and at the time, she had 15 granddaughters!

Surprised by the hate on the kindle though! I biught a secondhand kindle bc i read A LOT and its miles cheaper to be renting and buying e books. Every now and again when i come across something life changing, ill buy or make it in hardcover for the collection
Editing to add my third point😅
