One of the few films that still has moments that give me goosebumps despite its age and how many times I've seen it. The moment when the camera rises up into the underground car park rafters and shoots up over the wall back in medieval Scotland with a huge orchestral flourish still causes a sharp intake of breath for me.
The TV series is definately worth a watch, it goes indepth on the existence of the immortals and how they overcame the difficulties of living long lives without discovery and theres not a whiff of Aliens or shields in sight.

Always loved this movie as a kid. And honestly I was a fan of the TV series while it was on too. And for Macleod's accent, I get it. I have moved all over the country as a kid and my accent became a conglomeration of everywhere I lived. People ask me all the time where I am from when they hear me talk.
Funny thing, Adrian Paul speaks several languages and does some great impersonations in some of the Convention videos. Lambert just doesn't have that range as an actor. ;)
It was so good and so terrible. They recycled actors and at least one time you can see the sound guy holding a boom mic. I don’t think they are up anymore, but they used to have the whole series on UA-cam.

Clancy Brown played a Sheriff in the first episode of the TV Series "Sleepy Hollow." It's a series about the paranormal and the Headless Horseman. Wanna take a wild guess how the Sheriff met his end? Yep!

Same here dude I even went as far as buying a replica Duncan McCloud Katana the one with the white dragon handle not Connors but Duncans even though Christopher Lambert was by far the best Highlander I like Duncans Sword better always loved katana and the fact the curved blade allowed it to slice cleanly through rather then broadswords that where more about crashing into armor to do more blunt force trauma rather then cutting right through the armor like the katana does
Interesting note: The Highlander TV series had a ton of musicians in key roles. Roger Bellon, Roger Daltry, Joan Jett, Vanity, Roland Gift, Sheena Easton, and Jim Byrnes are just some that I can name off of the top of my head.
Speaking of the episode that Joan Jett appeared in, the opening scene shows Richie listening to the song "Cherry Bomb" by "The Runaways" a band that Joan Jett had once been a member of

Tip for the uninitiated, look for "A Kind of Magic" album by Queen. Not all the songs the band sang that's from the movie is in it, but most of them are. It's basically the unofficial Highlander soundtrack.
Or do what I did, get the white label vinyl L.P. (which includes the clip of 'new York New York') with a fold out cover. but it's rare as hens teeth, good luck finding it.
I have that CD. Great CD. The only Highlander-related song that was missing (that I can recall) on that album was Queen's rendition of New York, New York.
A couple of points, Minty. The Highlander TV series with Adrian Paul was fantastic. It followed Duncan MacLeod, Connor's kinsman. Also, I was curious myself about Christopher Lambert. IMDB stated that he was born in West Nyack, NY and was raised in Switzerland. Very strange upbringing.
One of the best movies to come out of the 1980’s. Christopher Lambert was really great in the role. I think the movie wouldn’t have been as cool if they didn’t have Christopher Lambert as Connor Macleod. I also can’t forget Clancy Browns fantastic portrayal of the Psychopathic Kurgan! Again the casting for this movie was really spot on! Sean Connery added some nice flair to the movie as well! Besides the actors, I believe that the soundtrack by Queen is a character all its own. Queen really outdid themselves! The pacing, editing, and the filming locations were all done perfectly too! The first Highlander film is a movie that I never get tired of watching. Whenever I see Highlander on cable tv, I always find myself having to stop and watch it. Great video and as always I look forward to seeing the next one! Cheers!
Back in the 90's I got divorced and moved in with my best friend. He like Sci-Fi, Super Hero type movie's. Me I Liked Documentary's, Film Noir, and older stuff. One night against my will we watched "Highlander" the movie. I loved it. After that we would make a point every week to make dinner and watch the TV series. I even started to watch some of the later "Star Trek" shows. In turn he watched some of my favorites. We lived together for 5 years, never a raised voice or argument. We are both in our 50's now and still best friends.
Highlander is an odd beast. Campy, B movie esq at times but often excellently shot with some terrific set pieces. Kurgans car rampage with Conner’s girlfriend is fantastic on many levels. The climax driving across the bridge sparks flying, Queen pumping is perfect. A Scotsman playing an Egyptian, a blind Frenchman playing a Scotsman, an unpaid virtual unknown stealing the movie as its villain, one of the all time great soundtracks, set over thousands of years etc etc. It’s bonkers but it’s brilliant.
Clancy is one of the greatest & treasured actors of all time. Consistent & varied he is amazing and his voice deserves a narration movie. Even recent TV has been made better by his presence in "Sleepy Hollow & Emergence".
I just watched Highlander: Endgame yesterday. Watching Duncan take Connor's head still hits me in the feels, but there could be only one and Connor wanted it to be Duncan. There should have been more Donnie Yen too.
Me too and and the Donnie Yen fight is one of the best short fights in Highlander history. I've seen a longer version of that fight which is even better.

I remember hearing about the highlander game that was supposed to come out in around 2008. i was looking forward to that game cause it sounded epic; you would play as (yet) another Macleod through the stone age, during ancient Egypt, as a gladiator in rome, during ancient china and japan, world war 1 and 2, going all the way to modern day New York. You would be able to unlock and choose different attributes for your character like which sword he carried, skills such as fighting style and even some magic stuff he could do. The last one sounded a bit iffy, but it was apparently supposed to tie in to the sorcerer stuff from highlander 3. shame they cancelled it.
I read that he wanted to play modern day Kurgan like a well-polished businessman. Basically it would have been a live action version of his Lex Luthor animated role, but before Lex's character wad even depicted that way- would have been interesting.
Another fun fact: Their opponents were Greg Gagne, The Tonga Kid, and Jim Brunzell. Considering Gagne is on the team, this makes me think the Highlander crew contacted the AWA for wrestlers and not the WWF. Which is funny considering New York was the WWF's home turf back then.
I remember the first time I saw this film way back. I was probably around early primary school. I was entranced by the haunting yet uplifting music, the fun sword play. I was hooked. I still wish we all had a chance to see those lost forever scenes. Spot on work Minty! Thanks for another great list. 💙💝💙
There's one single good scene in Highlander II: The Quickening. He's an old man fighting the flying hedgehog men on hoverboards (it seems even goofier when I actually type that out), he kills one of them, and a fuel truck explodes. He's enveloped by the fireball, but a few seconds later he walks out of the fire, and the camera zooms into his face revealing that he's young again. That was memorable. The rest of the scenes in the movie? Not so much.
My friends and I watched Highlander 2 first because we had not heard the first one. It was a trip watching the first one after. Alot of confusion ensued.
However, the Highlander 2 scene where Ramirez (Sean Connery) is in the plane watching the exaggerated graphic tutorial of worse case emergency outcomes is priceless.
Guy that wrote it was the same guy that did Back Draft and he came up with the idea looking at ancient armor in a museum and wondering what that warrior would be like in this day and age
Also, Highlander was originally a college homework assignment from Widens film school! He tweaked his college homework & sold it to Hollywood, generating multiple "sequels", tv shows, and merch.
Just a clarification: Connery wasn't doing his business in the bathroom, he went in there to do the recording over the phone and that's just how it turned out.
To be fair, with Hogan saying he was almost cast in the movie...he's also claimed to have almost been the replacement bassist in Metallica after Cliff Burtons death. Hulk's a pretty big storyteller, even among wrestlers.
Your video was great. Most bathrooms have great acoustics. Singers throughout the years have spent a lot of time practicing in them because their voices ting out beautifully.
I know the story was loose and took alot of liberties but Highlander 2 The Quickening was awesome and holds a special place in my heart. Great video Minty!!! 👍
I have the special edition HD blu-ray of Highland 2 which is loads better than the atrocious botched theatrical version (- thank the bonding company for that crappy version) & Highland 2 (special edition) is one of my guilty pleasures in my movie collection...when I want to see a fun mindless (check your brain at the door) action adventure sci-fi story with cool special effect, cool cinematography, cool set designs, cool stunt sequences & impressive explosions on a lazy weekend, I just pop in Highlander 2 (special edition) 😎👍

I remember reading or seeing that Christopher Lambert was so nearsighted that he actually injured several people because of his bad eyesight. (It still amazes me that although he was born on Long Island, NY, and his father moved the family to Switzerland, where Christopher was schooled, he never learned to speak _English!_ I would've thought he would've learned it at home.)
Fun fact: not the only time a bathroom has been used for its acoustic properties. Jim Morrison sang one of his songs (LA Woman, I believe) in the bathroom, because it provided an echo for his vocals he wanted to capture authentically. The TV Show with Adrian Paul was actually really good( I mean 6 seasons). It had depth, and many of the important plot points. It sees Conner Mcleod (Played by Lambert himself too) being the mentorat one point. The action scenes were a product of their time, but it was still fairly well written, directed and acted.
Always another film I love!!! Thanks for providing a welcome distraction. . And those Queen tracks are total perfection. Christopher Lambert has a gorgeous accent . . Don't care where he's from. 😉😉 But why on Earth didn't they just stop at one movie. It's fantastic!
Sean Connery recorded the narration in his bathroom because of the acoustics BUT he wasn't actually seeing a man about a horse, if you know what I mean.
yeah that's widely reported and he was doing it over the phone. Not very good research on the part of Bishop here....same as he never mentions lambert couldn't see half the time due to his poor eyesight.......

My father passed away about a month ago. We used to sit and watch highlander all the time, i have such good memories of us sitting there watching the movies and playing Queen's - It's a kinda magic album in his car. Such a great movie and i hope the remake won't disappoint. And i hope for the older actors to get cameos somewhere in the remake
Hogan also wrestled 400 days in a year, fought pride fighters in the 70's was asked to play bass for Metallica, and was asked to star in The Wrestler as well, I could go on about the wicked lies of Hulk Hogan and his rotten behavior brother.
Highlander is a wonderful movie. I loved how it focused on immortality as a curse more than a blessing. Watching everything around you change until its unrecognizable. Watch loved ones die and turn to dust, Jesus what a horrible existence that would be.

Also I only managed to see a handful of episodes from season six when USA network aired them originally and I missed out on the two part final episode.

The loss of whatever was destroyed alongside the deleted Highlander scenes illustrates the importance that should be placed on ensuring everything that can be released from a film should Beto ensure they will continue to exist even if the original gets damaged or destroyed.

They could of had successful Highlander sequels by giving the historic stories of the original characters: Highlander 2: The Journeys of Ramirez Highlander 3: The Tales of the Kurgan Highlander 4: The Birth of Immortals Basically providing the stories from earlier centuries.... yet Hollywood producers and directors are either on drugs or unable to be creative.
Alan Pior A good story is like a good recipe. You cant have one ingredient overpower the other. Too much Kurgen would be like too much chillies. The original story was great because it has just enough of everything. Some stories cannot have sequels. Like Lord of the Rings, Excalibur and Highlander. There can be only one.

Agreed. It's hilarious that the NHL didn't want the game to be associated with violence when that's all the game is about. There's a reason why the joke "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out" exists. I'll admit at the time of the movie the violence in the NHL wasn't too bad but it has gotten to the point where it's basically unwatchable.
It was dumb of them to make all the sequels when they had Hundreds of years in the Highlanders past they could have worked with. They could have made lots of Prequels, hell look at Star Wars.

I'll never understand why they didn't just go the prequel route if they wanted to make more Highlander films. Would've been perfect. You could see more immortals, get more lore, and even more Connery; all without retconning everything that has already been established. I mean, who wouldn't want to see more of Macleod from the past. Would've been awesome to see more of him from the 1700's-1800's. It just seems like a no brainer.
Clancy Brown. He he’s been in many movies and shows and does voice acting for animated movies and shows. He’s been in movies like Pet Cemetery 2, Star ship Troopers and has played the voice of Lex Luther in Superman the animated series as well as the voice of Mr. Krabs in Spongebob. Just to name a few.

A Scotsman playing an Egyptian, a blind Frenchman playing a Scotsman, an unpaid virtual unknown stealing the movie as its villain, one of the all time great soundtracks, set over thousands of years etc etc. It’s bonkers but it’s brilliant.
Clancy is one of the greatest & treasured actors of all time. Consistent & varied he is amazing and his voice deserves a narration movie. Even recent TV has been made better by his presence in "Sleepy Hollow & Emergence".

I just watched Highlander: Endgame yesterday. Watching Duncan take Connor's head still hits me in the feels, but there could be only one and Connor wanted it to be Duncan. There should have been more Donnie Yen too.

Me too and and the Donnie Yen fight is one of the best short fights in Highlander history. I've seen a longer version of that fight which is even better.

I remember hearing about the highlander game that was supposed to come out in around 2008. i was looking forward to that game cause it sounded epic; you would play as (yet) another Macleod through the stone age, during ancient Egypt, as a gladiator in rome, during ancient china and japan, world war 1 and 2, going all the way to modern day New York. You would be able to unlock and choose different attributes for your character like which sword he carried, skills such as fighting style and even some magic stuff he could do. The last one sounded a bit iffy, but it was apparently supposed to tie in to the sorcerer stuff from highlander 3. shame they cancelled it.
Clancy is such a great actor! To go from this to Mr. Crabs in Sponge Bob! He is also one of the nicest guys in the buisness! Talk about method acting!

I read that he wanted to play modern day Kurgan like a well-polished businessman. Basically it would have been a live action version of his Lex Luthor animated role, but before Lex's character wad even depicted that way- would have been interesting.

I remember the first time I saw this film way back. I was probably around early primary school. I was entranced by the haunting yet uplifting music, the fun sword play. I was hooked. I still wish we all had a chance to see those lost forever scenes. Spot on work Minty! Thanks for another great list. 💙💝💙
I absolutely loved this movie as a kid growing up in the 80's, and even enjoyed the extended version that came out in the late 90's
Queen's "Pain is so close to pleasure" can also be - briefly - heard in a bar (or restaurant, don't remember) scene, playing on the radio.
There's one single good scene in Highlander II: The Quickening. He's an old man fighting the flying hedgehog men on hoverboards (it seems even goofier when I actually type that out), he kills one of them, and a fuel truck explodes. He's enveloped by the fireball, but a few seconds later he walks out of the fire, and the camera zooms into his face revealing that he's young again. That was memorable. The rest of the scenes in the movie? Not so much.

My friends and I watched Highlander 2 first because we had not heard the first one. It was a trip watching the first one after. Alot of confusion ensued.

Just a clarification: Connery wasn't doing his business in the bathroom, he went in there to do the recording over the phone and that's just how it turned out.
To be fair, with Hogan saying he was almost cast in the movie...he's also claimed to have almost been the replacement bassist in Metallica after Cliff Burtons death. Hulk's a pretty big storyteller, even among wrestlers.

I have the special edition HD blu-ray of Highland 2 which is loads better than the atrocious botched theatrical version (- thank the bonding company for that crappy version) & Highland 2 (special edition) is one of my guilty pleasures in my movie collection...when I want to see a fun mindless (check your brain at the door) action adventure sci-fi story with cool special effect, cool cinematography, cool set designs, cool stunt sequences & impressive explosions on a lazy weekend, I just pop in Highlander 2 (special edition) 😎👍

I remember reading or seeing that Christopher Lambert was so nearsighted that he actually injured several people because of his bad eyesight. (It still amazes me that although he was born on Long Island, NY, and his father moved the family to Switzerland, where Christopher was schooled, he never learned to speak _English!_ I would've thought he would've learned it at home.)
That is weird, especially when English is considered a bridge between all the languages in Europe and around the world for that matter.
Fun fact: not the only time a bathroom has been used for its acoustic properties. Jim Morrison sang one of his songs (LA Woman, I believe) in the bathroom, because it provided an echo for his vocals he wanted to capture authentically.

Minty, thank you so much for using the painting of the hockey goalie. It is called In The Crease. The painting was done by artist Ken Danby who was born in my hometown, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada. My mother went to school with him.
The TV Show with Adrian Paul was actually really good( I mean 6 seasons). It had depth, and many of the important plot points. It sees Conner Mcleod (Played by Lambert himself too) being the mentorat one point. The action scenes were a product of their time, but it was still fairly well written, directed and acted.

Sean Connery recorded the narration in his bathroom because of the acoustics BUT he wasn't actually seeing a man about a horse, if you know what I mean.
Thats what I figured. The bathroom was probably the quietest place with the best acoustics.

My father passed away about a month ago. We used to sit and watch highlander all the time, i have such good memories of us sitting there watching the movies and playing Queen's - It's a kinda magic album in his car. Such a great movie and i hope the remake won't disappoint. And i hope for the older actors to get cameos somewhere in the remake

Highlander is a wonderful movie. I loved how it focused on immortality as a curse more than a blessing. Watching everything around you change until its unrecognizable. Watch loved ones die and turn to dust, Jesus what a horrible existence that would be.
Just found out a few days ago that Stan Kirsch who played Ritchie Ryan on Highlander: The Series committed suicide on Jan.11, 2020.
Or did he? Maybe it was just time for him to switch identities.
I found out soon after it happened-so sad. It's going to be a while before I'm ready to watch the show again.

@@dmangelsm1188 I agree, 51 is too young to go. I was just getting ready to watch seasons 4-6 of Highlander again since I don't remember them as clearly as the first three. Also I only managed to see a handful of episodes from season six when USA network aired them originally and I missed out on the two part final episode.

The loss of whatever was destroyed alongside the deleted Highlander scenes illustrates the importance that should be placed on ensuring everything that can be released from a film should Beto ensure they will continue to exist even if the original gets damaged or destroyed.
I could see them offering Hogan the role of the Kurgan, if all they knew they wanted was big and hulking at the time.

Basically providing the stories from earlier centuries.... yet Hollywood producers and directors are either on drugs or unable to be creative.

A good story is like a good recipe. You cant have one ingredient overpower the other. Too much Kurgen would be like too much chillies. The original story was great because it has just enough of everything. Some stories cannot have sequels. Like Lord of the Rings, Excalibur and Highlander. There can be only one.

Agreed. It's hilarious that the NHL didn't want the game to be associated with violence when that's all the game is about. There's a reason why the joke "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out" exists. I'll admit at the time of the movie the violence in the NHL wasn't too bad but it has gotten to the point where it's basically unwatchable.

It was dumb of them to make all the sequels when they had Hundreds of years in the Highlanders past they could have worked with. They could have made lots of Prequels, hell look at Star Wars.

The guy who played the Kurgan looks familiar. Seen him somewhere before.
Clancy Brown. He he’s been in many movies and shows and does voice acting for animated movies and shows. He’s been in movies like Pet Cemetery 2, Star ship Troopers and has played the voice of Lex Luther in Superman the animated series as well as the voice of Mr. Krabs in Spongebob. Just to name a few.
