so awesome you can make an entire video incomprehensible to people who don't spend 12 hours per day using tiktok. truly the Chinese white kanye west of youtube video
Exactly the point I made in my comment just now. This is an example of a chronically online sick individual who thinks these micro TikTok trends are relevant to people in society.
Parts of this video made sense and others didn't. When he first started talking about aura it seemed that you had to be chronically online to understand the context from which he based the video off of. This idea of aura only applies to a few western contemporary genres of music. This aura phenomenon is mostly concentrated on rap and a few other genres, you wouldn't find jazz or pop in this discussion. These popular artists are mostly talked about on tiktok and insta, where the aura idea comes from. But I do agree with him when he later discussed the growing focus on an artist persona and liking it to the way ancient people wore costumes to be more like the deities they worshipped.
I feel like people are confusing the terms "aura" and "mysterious", Just because people on tiktok consider aura to be mysterious or "a mask" does not mean that the definition needs to be dumbed down to that. I get what you are saying about a cultural Ethos but I dont understand how you are connecting that to "aura" Aura does not NEED to be mysterious. Since you brought up ancient times. Aura is a goddess in ancient Greece in charge of the wind and breeze and I think this helps explain the more universal definition of Aura. Rather than a specific style of behavior, Aura is the energy you emit into the world the "breeze you leave". It does not need to be defined as anything..., it is simply the energy you put into the world. You could have a healing aura, a leaders aura, a mysterious aura, or even an evil aura. Additionally, for many spiritual people, Aura is something they believe they can sense within someone helping them interpret the intentions of said person. But where I think you are right is in people like 2hollis and playboicarti purposefully replicating evil aura from history. If you go through 2hollis's deleted discography he's very into the occult, but didn't always have that "dark mysterious" theme, it seems he purposefully changed to a darker more egotistical theme. (talking about how his ego has overtaken him etc...). Additionally, I dont really have an opinion on playboi carti but he is definitely preaching satanism. Cool video though, I agree the way we look at aura is definitely a problem
i love your channel it’s like a perfect in between of music and fashion and talking about the old and new and bringing a almost a pov most people don’t tend to speak on at times 🙏
Instant subscribe, I love how each point you made in this video made absolute sense. It's funny enough that you mentioned my two favorite artists and explain very accurately what even drew me to them many many years ago. You made a great point with this video.
I agree the "the Bacchae" is the epitome of "aura" and style. Too me it is fascinating that we as humans are not too different from even people who lived almost 4k years ago. Our brains seem used to a certain way of viewing ourselves and each other. Fun!
I think this video appeals to people who are chronically online as it would be a bit difficult for people to understand the video without having gotten the full context from social media. Also the use of this spefic ' mysterious ' type of aura doesn't acknowledge the other different kinds of aura. This definition of aura you mention is specic to insta and tiktok, the same place you got the reference clips in the video, making it only understandable to people who are on insta and tiktok, who interact with those type of posts. Overall the vid was good 👍, pointing out the trend of valuing an artists persona over how good the music is. The wording could've been better but the point was understood.
I completely agree with your statement, Im even mad that those 15 yr old worship Carti like he is a trendsetter or something out of this world, they should watch some older videos of him and see what he is all about lol, goofy as hell, chill skater boy, which is not a bad thing at all but this whole dark fantasy modern day vampire... its just silly and cringe at this point
"The Weekend was really the first artist to have this type of aura" Umm have you heard of Daft Punk? They were the kings of mystery and intrigue or what is apparently being called aura now for decades. I would still say your average person knows far less about them and what they look like than The Weekend even though they're a far bigger household name. Then Deadma5 did it. Then countless more. Now it's practically how to try to get famous 101. Artists hiding their identity to garner mystery and fame is absolutely not a new concept. That said, I agree that this idea of people arbitrarily assigning and retracting aura points over absolute nonsense is the epitome of bullshit. Just let artists live their lives lol.
He's been getting dogged on for a year now. This self-dubbed "fashion designer" thinks he's above mfs. Just check his video on NPC fashion when he literally is one

If i had to give a top 5 aura in rap all time, this would probably be it (no particular order): -Drake (pick any era, he has aura, and his aura is more of an anti-aura. Makes no sense but it works) -Carti WLR to current day (this might be the most aura ever but the LV thong did pinch him back a little) -The Weeknd during The Hills (in terms of a single song aura this might be it. This song was inescapable and mysterious ass Abel was at the head of it) -Kanye during TLOP (the whole album rollout was a massive aura shifter, especially the tour pretty much saw him take over aura at that time) -Eminem during 1999-2000 (quirked up white boy who was hust better than everyone at rapping, hiding a mysterious and violent alter ego? This set the precedent for aura and can be argued as the highest ever) Notable Honourable Mentions: -Yachty, Lets Start Here to Current day (my personal shout for next aura goat, hes onna generational run and his aura climb with every second of music hes been making) -J Cole, features up until Grippy 👅(this wouldve been in the top 5 easily if Grippy didnt exist. If he was a feature it became his song, even against an aura beast like Drake) -Kendrick, Good Kid Maad City (imo this is the peak of his aura, drops an amazing album showing him going aura for aura with Drake which is impressive because this was Take Care Drake, as well as dropping Swimming Pool which was a massive jump in aura from Section 80 due to popularity) -2hollis, entire career (he has the most potential to make the top 5 and take over aura in general, especially with Gold and Trauma getting popular recently) -Nettspend, Nothing like uuu to Current day (hes 2hollis but more popular, a lot of potential but doesnt have the boost of being his own producer) -Fimiguerrero, Immigrant to Current day (UK rapper so the potential aura gain is unmeasurable, as well as Vogue and MVP getting massive stamps of approval can easily wildly jump) -Travis, Astroworld to Current Day (the hidden feature rollout pretty much sold me on Travis, he will make top 5 after his next album)
the weeknd being the originator of aura and alex g having 10 classic albums are actually insane to say im ngl but the psychological aspects of this video are cool for sure.
The aura is simply the visual and auditory interest produced by a person and the lingering impression that person leaves in our minds. You can find that even in old 18th century novels and I'm pretty sure even before. Heck, There are some characters with aura in Homer's Iliad and Oddyssey and probably in any human myth... Aura is in no way modern. You can sense even in print that people like Sarah Bernhardt or Farinelli had an aura, or any public speaker. And I feel like bands like Led Zeppelin have more of an aura than any of the modern artists mentioned in the video so far...if anything, it is way harder for artists today to cultivate a shroud of deep mystery for a long time. Another French artist with a certain aura comes to mind: Mylène Farmer.
