When I lived in Hawaii from 1972 until 1976 I attended Radford Highschool and the Manapua Man van came everyday and everyday I would get the cold Lomein noddles with big pieces of celery and little pork pieces too...I would give anything for a paper bowl of these great noodles, but living in NYS the chances are slim to none and slim just left town.
Awww, man! This brings back great childhood memories. I grew up in Waipahu in the 70's. We had the "Truck man" drive around our neighborhood. An older Japanese man. He sold candies, fresh vegetables, other goodies, and even packs of sportscards!!! Miss those days!!!
I went to Highlands and PCHS. We used to always stop by Mike’s after school when we walked to the library or bus stop to go home. Such a legend. Will miss him dearly. Mahalo Mike!
I was introduced to Manapua man Mike by my now Husband 20 years ago. My husband has been going since elementary school times and he’s been my go to since and we’ve taken our son too. Our order is fried noodles, fried and steamed pork hash, musubi, strawberry soda, rice cake when he use to make and a push pop. We got lucky we found out he was retiring from a friend so we dropped what we were doing and went before all the lines. Gonna miss him cuz there’s no other Manapua man that’s as good as him!
What a bummer! I remember stopping at his truck way back when me and my friends used to walk down from Highlands after school in the late 80’s. Can’t believe it’s been that long ago. It was one of the best fried noodles and lumpia that I remember. I wish I would’ve known he was retiring, I definitely would have gone early and waited in line to get some ono grinds! Oh what memories!
I really appreciated this video! Something different from Real Estate but def great content to show the culture of what it is like growing up in Hawaii. I grew up in Aiea and Mike used to come down my neighborhood too around 3 pm. I used to stop by on my way home after school and grab manapua, fried noodles and porkhash, passion orange for only $4. Most times I skip lunch and save my money just to eat his food. Good times, im 36 now but ill always remember Mike Da Manapua Man. Enjoy retirement unko 🤙🏽

I didn't know he's retiring. Sad day for me but I'm glad he's taking a rest. Thanks Mike.
