- "The Clients". To everyone's surprise, tow law students' balls were held in the Sofiensaal during the carnival season of 1864: on 18th January the traditional ball of the University of Vienna law students took place. On this evening, Josef Strauss performed the dedication waltz intended for the ball organizers, which had been given the title of Petitionen, Op. 153. On 2nd February 1864 the juridical aid society, which has as its mission assisting needy stdudents and young interns, invited the public to its carnival celebration, also in the Sofiensaal. Josef Strauss had no choice but to compose another waltz score; it would be called Die Clienten, containes no dedication note and did not appear in print until May 1864 as opus 156, at an appropiate interval after the Petitionen waltz. Insofar as the quality of invention and thoughtful arrangement are concerned, there is no difference between the two compositions. They remained for the rest of the year in the Strauss Orchestra's repertoire and then gave way to the novelties of the carnival season of 1865.

A rare but memorable waltz by Josef Strauss. The waltz themes 3:00 and 5:33 are absolutely magical. This version is so much better than the original. What an amazing talent this guy has.

Great forgotten waltz by Pepi, waltz 1B which starts at 1:29 is my favourite part of this piece. Original recording is much slower, speeding it up added a lot of energy to this waltz.
I am also very happy for his speeding up of the originals. And waltz 1B, when I heard it, sounded familiar for some reason, probably just because of its creativity and beauty :)
