when your an island that has nothing to exploit as resources, or do not diversify in anything, and then are consumed by the availability of resources. I would conjecture oil, oil is the main allegory to the planet, it is truly valuable but the advancement in the tech tree makes us rise above it, even when it's needed everywhere. I would even say, these landfills are oily wink

The leaders of the 1970s and 1980s completely failed the country. The leaders who came after corrupted the country. Every Pacific leader should remember how greed and corruption destroyed Nauru. However, the damage was done during the colonial period.

Coming from a former colony, I would describe colonialism as a Pandora's box. The moment people open it, they can't close it. For all the suffering it brought, it also has hope, or opportunity inside. The damage to the environment from colonialism also brought tremendous wealth. Without colonialism, they would have never be able to reach that level of wealth. So, I think the victim mentality regarding colonialism is a form of escapism, to forget about the mistake, weakness inherent in the culture of the colonies that allowed itself to be colonised in the first place. Only by overcoming them, such as the success of former colonies such as Singapore, would colonies be able to move on from their past.

War gives birth to such crisis ... What humans are doing to Earth is not only destroying ecosystems but also going towards our own humans extinction because of war and hatred and such a competitive world people are running behind resources and hoarding and doing everything which is destroying nature in the most tragic way... When Nauru's resources were taken from them we can see in the images that the people were tribals they may have no idea what other people were taking from their land and now its on the verge of submerging in the ocean With no fora and fauna .. All this is just because humans have started to make life's more lavish for them ... One thing I don't understand is I we want to live in Air conditioner houses while we know that its only constituting go global warming and at a point we will not be able to roam freely on Earth May due to rising temperatures or floods or droughts then instead of having air conditioner why dont we try to reduce the green house gases and try to make a better condition of the whole Earth's air altogether ??? Why don't humans understand one simple logic ??? Why war why hate why pollute why why why I don't understand how to spread this message. If anyone reading this understands what I'm saying then please try to spread the word by any and every means possible ... We need to save our natural resources otherwise in a few years we will he locked in our houses with limited facilities with air-conditioning and refrigerators because until that time there would be so much pollution in the atmosphere that humans may not be able to breath and also later in future even being in the home may not be possible !!! IF WE DONT WANT SUCH DOOMSDAY THEN WE NEED TO EDUCATE EACH OTHER ABOUT SAVING THE EARTH. Its a request we may not like leaving the facilities we have today ..but trust me even scientists agree that we need to reduce the greenhouse effect . If we want to live

Stop Blaming the Past. Its Not Going to Solve the Problem. As a Republic the Leaders should have Instituted the Necessary Economic Policies to Conserve the Resources and the Wealth of Nauru.
Singapore is a small island without natural resources and was a British Colony from 1819 to 1963. When it gained full independence in 1965 it developed from a developing country to a First World Nation in 50 years. It was led by Brilliant Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew with a Capable Incorruptible Cabinet of Ministers and Capable Incorruptible Senior Civil Servants.
Norway has a Sovereign Fund to Conserve its Wealth.
The Future is in The Hands of The Citizens of Nauru.
Your Ancestors Survived for Thousands of Years. You can Survive without Embracing Western Consumerism and Lifestyle and be Great Again.

The island is so small that it takes 15 mins to go around it. So rather than cycle they decide the drive and they wonder why most are overweight, just stupid logic. They even seem to have good weather. They could save both their health and money with one stroke.

    • @herokephas4246

Unless you are speeding like a maniac then yeh I guess you could make it around the island in 15minutes, maybe even hit a few kids, dogs on the road which is mostly a share zone with the locals... As for being overweight, those statistics are quiet inaccurate when compared to other countries, while we are but a few thousands compared to other countries which reach the millions you could say we have 50 overweight ppl to America's or Australias 10,000 overweight ppl and more. Also If you had a choice to get cool wind in your hair without breaking a sweat which is quiet easy to do in Nauru's humid weather as you probably already know or ride a bike and sweat and maybe even burn a little which would you choose?? You post was from 2 months ago... healthy eating habits and fitness programs have been implemented into our island in the last few years and even though weight issues can never be diminished I can say Nauru kicking butt in the fitness department...

Even with exercise, good food's expensive. Because the phosphate's gone, the island's no longer farmable, so you have to rely on imported food. The only problem is that it's an isolated island, so good exported food's expensive, such as $70 for a watermelon. So, you might as well eat spam and other canned garbage.

There should be some kind of scheme agreed upon to dissolve the country of Nauru, abandon the Island and relocate the population to Australia
The population of the country’s only the size of a typical small town anyway
Australia’s ALREADY supporting the country of Nauru (thanks to colonial decisions) and keeping it going, so why not just move the people to Australia and let them have Australian citizenship
At least in Australia they’d be a better investment, since they’d have access to better food, better healthcare and better job opportunities
Plus, it doesn’t seem like anyone in Nauru has all that much national pride or patriotism for Nauru at all these days
Would any Nauruan really miss Nauru as a country in the year 2024? It’s basically been turned into an island wasteland

Could they revitalise by taking the worlds trash and burning it cleaning like Singapore does. Use that to fill in the old mining areas and restore nature.
