New Jersey has THE highest property taxes in the country!
I don't know where you live but everything I'd like to do is over 2 hours away so nothing but grocery stores are close.
And the beaches all have fees, they should be free!

My Italian grand mother & husband specifically picked North Jersey to immigrate to in the mid 20s. Of 8 only my dad was born in America. I lived in NJ for 56 years till insane property taxes drove me south. I grew up in the 60s & 70s it "was" a great place to grow up at the time. Jersey corrupt politics destroyed the state.

On the pro side I would add diversity. You can get to know people from cultures all over the world. There are restaurants featuring many different ethnic cuisines. On the con side is crime. Some of the larger cities are run down with slum areas and high crime. There are places to totally avoid.

We live in south Jersey near Philadelphia, Gloucester county. Property taxes are on par with burbs on the PA side. I like that’s it close to everything and have all the resources you need.
North Jersey is different than south Jersey(near Philadelphia). Higher housing costs, property taxes etc.

    • @livinginnj

Taxes definitely vary from county to county in NJ. Gloucester, Camden, and Burlington Counties are all very close, but much different in tax rates. As whole, NJ does have one of the highest overall Property Tax rates in the country.

North Jersey is the ONLY place on Earth in which adults have access to 400 meter tracks. All other places have tracks attached to schools which treat all others as if they were Adam Lanzas or Sal Ramos'.Tracks are important to seniors with permanent plantar fasciitis.

I would say friendliness bottomed out in NJ around 10 years ago when I was working in NYC and living in Hoboken. It seems the trash has been stomped out of there - every time I go back there, I would say facilities have been better and people have been more approachable and friendlier especially in Hoboken and Jersey City (for whatever reason, I have no idea as to why.) It's the local economy & corruption that drove me out to California (and even CA is getting on my nerves these days as well.) Healthcare? Not so much, CA & TX are way better without breaking a sweat in my experience.
