Excellent series. I'm back watching them a second time as I watched it last year. This year I want to make a 1:1 balun to use on my 11 meter Moxon antenna. Thank you for taking the time to teach us.

Fantastic video! After many other videos and reading a dozen research papers on this, I finally am beginning to understand it because of you. You showed me visually what I couldn't put together from the written words with an excellent presentation. The best thing of all, however, is that you seem like you are having fun, and I love that. Well done and I thank you for the time and effort you put into this.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a TRX video series explaining BALUNS and chokes is the mural of the Sistine Chapel, and many of the explanations presented elsewhere are simply cave paintings.
Thank you for bringing an EE analysis to the table, TRX. Your channel is one of the best out there, alongside W2AEW channel and The Signal Path channel.

I wanted to thank you for this video. I had a balun on my loop antenna and had problems. I measured my loop for 3.55 mhz since it’s harmonics would be 7.1, 14.2, 21.3, 24.85 and 28.4 Mhz - I had very nice swr on all bands except the primary frequency. I did everything, shortened the antenna, lengthened the antenna. Shortened the ladder line, lengthened the ladder line. Increased height… basically everything but couldn’t get swr down to a reasonable reading on 3.55 mhz. After watching your video, I then looked at my balun. I had recently bought a VNA and found the balun had swr issues on 80 meters. All that work on the antenna for nothing. One top off was when I put a length of 75 ohm coax then to 50 ohm, the swr went down, but I wanted to use the loop on all multiples of the frequencies… so all this time, it was the balun. The balun said it was rated from 1.8-30 mhz at 150 watts. Well, this well known companies 4:1 balun didn’t work in the lower bands. With VNAs becoming within nearly everyone’s budget, those companies who rate their Baluns will now have hams looking over their shoulders. I built my own balun according to your other videos and now the loop works fine. Thanks again for your instructive videos…. De AL7KT

This video is very detailed and explained in a great amount of time as opposed to other videos on youtube. I know that it will take more of my time to watch the video but for sure I will learn much more then what a short video has to offer. I enjoy the mild manor humor and even the slight mistakes of camera use as it is in the real world. Pleas know that your videos are much appreciated among the new and old "HAM" radio community. There is always something more to learn that we may have over looked or very simply have not had anyone else to teach us as in my situation. I look forward to viewing as many of your teachings and explanations about electronics as are available. 73 from VA3ACJ

Another great video, and it debunks a lot of the claims made about overpriced junk products peddled to unsuspecting hams. I looked for that VNA & found it was sold out in 2014 and they are not making anymore of them. I found another similar kit on eBay that has good reviews on eHam for whatever that is worth. If I get lucky, I might make enough betting on the election to buy a nice comm monitor. & spectrum analyzer. I started buying Amidon cores some time ago and witch wind my own Baluns, and Ununs. I am so happy you are going into some depth on the theory of functional working baluns! Thank you again, Peter! I was out of town on July 2, 2016, away from the internet & television. I did find a lovely old WWII transceiver, and the dynamotor power supply, complete with 1942 211 valves! My uncle wants me to take it home, so in January, I will bring it back with me. Peter another fantastic video, perhaps the best handling of this information on the internet that I have seen! Again very timely, I was doing almost the exact same experiments last week trying to really understand how Bal-Uns work. There is so much information on the Internet and lots of it is just wrong or they make it way too complicated. I have seen a few other videos on this topic but none were as awesome as this 2 Part Series. Finally someone actually explained the concepts of why it is needed and why some designs are better than others. I have seen some videos that probably don't really work this well because they did not test them. I would like to see Part 3 where you finish the balun and show it mounted and connected in the box with some design elements to consider. Meanwhile please show me a picture of it with the cover off. Nice video, Peter I made the same spiderbeam Balun like that one. I used the same size core, but used a good quality rj58 mil spec coax for my homemade spiderbeam antenna. It works well the Balun, no common mode currents.

To the grammar police. How's your German?
For us that are new and even those that are not, this is an excellent video. 10/10. Explains very well and a lot of education in very short time.
Why disrespect someone who is so generous to help others. Not cool.
Maybe he should post in German so we can see how well you do interrupting for us.

Excellent video, Peter. I have, over the years, built my own common mode chokes, and, like you, stand on the shoulders of the giants. 34 years of RF construction and still learning, it's nice to know there are still guys out there willing to take the time to teach the new-comers to RF construction. Thanks for the IC-7100 ALC modification. That was well thought out and, the modification works very well, though I now tend to wind down the output to 100 Watts. Don't want to be greedy, eh.
Looking forward to the next episode. Cheers... Tony g6ypk

Thank you Tony! Yeah If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. That is how scientific works... we learn more any new day. Thanks for stopping by. 73

Thanks, Peter. Keep up the good work. I'm about to give a talk in 20 minutes to the radio club on construction and theory on common mode choke/ baluns. Regards ..Tony g6ypk
