Very simple, dig it, lol ..but I am doing Wild Clay, and Primitive methods, so i may have many skulls that do not make it to Raku, sadly. I live on a shale deposit, so am experimenting...LOVE Raku and Salt Glaze however...Skulls as well, certainly!

love the video - thank you. Your raku kiln does not have air vents other than where the burner goes in - is that correct? Are you using earthen clay or stoneware, it looked like it had a lot of grog - perhaps it is specific for raku? ❤

Thank you June! 2 holes, one where the burner goes in and one at the top. I use stoneware clay. Hope this helps! I appreciate you watching! Thank you again!

Do you fire at night too or does it make it more risky with shadows? Or is it advantageous to fire during day when hot bc theoretically will take less energy to get kiln hot? i'm surprised you don't have a timing station, don't know if there is such a thing, but all seems somewhat time dependent.

Hi Catherine, thanks so much for watching! I sometimes fire at night, but I'm a morning person and I'm usually tired by the end of the day lol. Since firing is physically demanding, I tend to do better in the morning. I'm not sure of the exact science or timing that the outdoor temperature makes on how fast the kiln heats up. I'm sure it doesn't hurt to be hot out, but I don't think it makes too much of a difference. I "time" the kiln by sight. I look for the bright orange glow. Others use a pyrometer in the kiln to get to an exact temperature. Hope this helps, thanks again!!
