      This man is what the Irish call a useful idiot, a Plastic Paddy.
      You’ll notice he isn’t telling us about the murder of innocent Protestants, lives destroyed, towns ruined and innocents murdered. This man IS a bigot.

    • @PaulJohnston-n5w
      @PaulJohnston-n5w 6 днів тому

      “ Not a bigoted bone in his body”? He happily boasts about the IRA. This is an organisation responsible for horrific sectarian murders. To take one small example - they boarded a bus of workers ( at Kingsmill) and murdered them because they were Protestant. One was an apprentice - so he was a 16 year old child. He begged them not to kill him because he thought it would kill his mother. As the child pleaded with the terrorists they shot him dead through the face. ( for being another religion as they had let the Catholics go). This is far from the worst thing the IRA have done - they have happily murdered babies. The thing with terrorists as we learn from the Middle East - they appear credible . They want to talk about what wrongs were allegedly done to them - such as his alleged mistreatment by Prison Officers in the Irish Republic - but not a word about the cold blooded murder of children by the organisation he supported - the IRA. How many people were killed by the weaponry and explosives that were smuggled in to Ireland about which he boasted?. The IRA killed people often of another religion mostly unarmed -leaving their kids to school - feeding their cows - looking after their granny in hospital. The robotic self righteousness is sickening so even if you showed him a photograph of a beheaded child resulting from the material that he supplied - would he give the trite reply that it “ was all justified”? It takes quite a personality to appear jovial when justifying the worst of violence . I’ve only ever seen it in documentaries about serial killers or mafia. In that relation - of people talking about grisly things as if they were just going out to get their shopping I recommend the docu-drama on Dennis Nielsen.

      @Paddy234 northern Ireland is barely Nationalist, only on the prodesdant side. Sinn Fein is Marxist but their Catholic support doesn't know that, at least until recently when they publicly called them traitors.
      Think it was 23 December 1920 when the newerly named Sinn Fein did a deal with their British political counterparts that northern Ireland would continue under British rule, but the rest of Ireland would separate from the British government after gaining about 80% of the Ireland vote. In 1949, what we know now as northern Ireland officially became northern Ireland.

    Fantastic interview. In all honesty I don't listen to that many interviews like this as once you've heard one you tend to have heard them all, as in they tend to go over the same ground and have similar stories, even if they are interesting enough. John's story is unique and stands out because of his American background and time spent in the Marines though. Also the Whitey Bulger, gun running aspect is fascinating. What makes it for me though is that John's understanding of the historical and political dimension to the conflict and his ability to communicate that so accurately and intelligently. His knowledge of the history of the conflict, ie the Plantations and the strategy of divide and rule, as well as his explanation of who is really ultimately responsible for the tragic conflict that has blighted Ireland (and the people on both sides) for so long, is dead on the money. The man knows his history and it's so refreshing to hear a former combatant bring so much awareness and knowledge to the table. Looking forward to reading this book that's for sure. Thanks guys.

      I might have a bit of respect for him as a fighting Man,but they were not brave soldiers one bit. Instead they were an Army of cowards who chose to Murder innocent people. And even then with bombs hidden from sight. That's not brave. The English people were targeted when mostly we believe you should have a united Ireland. And If that day ever comes you can take the Celtic traitors back too. There's a big difference between the people of Britain and our government. And yes I agree that we wouldn't like to have our country taken over by a foreign power. However in reality we have had an invasion going on for years. And, once again it's the British citizens who are suffering. My home City and culture has almost been replaced by an Asian race of people. Yet we are not allowed to say anything about it without being labelled racists. So b4 I go I will say this -
      RIP to the innocent civilians killed on both sides, those innocent Birmingham folk killed by the 2 pub bombings. They are the real victims of that night, yet it's always the 6 IRA members who get the sympathy,. Even if they were there or not.
      I hope that one day you become one Ireland as it should be. But I am sure that if Ireland should ever be involved in a war with a foreign power, guess who will come marching in by ready to back you up, England unlike the rest of the UK, will always support and defend Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
