Not really a specific monster, but there's a Top 10 Coolest Creatures From Dragonlance list from CBR that might be really good to look at. Specifically, I'd recommend the high ogre/irda, Gk-Lok-Lok, or kyrie from that list. Beyond that, there's also the wichtlin, which is an interesting undead. With the Krynn book coming out on Dec 6th, I thought it might be good to try have something out within that time frame to help gather more eyes to the channel.
Gotta say, the idea of Concordant Killers killing their creator for making neutrality too OP in the universal balance is absolutely hilarious. "Sorry boss, but we gotta kill you." "What!? I made you! Why!?" "You upset the balance of the cosmos! Our mere existence in such numbers under one singular banner is too much for existence to handle. How can angels and demons exist at all if you can just point a million of us at them?" _". . . Dammit, I made them too well."_
I think the death of a Concordant killer would be akin to trying to ruin the balance of the entire multiverse as they see themselves as keepers of said balance so felling one of them from a population that doesn't reproduce is seen as a target on the entirety of cosmic balance.
Here's an idea. How about the group comes across a recently killed Concordant Killer just before another comes looking for them? A fight ensues, if your group is low level they start loosing but once one of the players gets low the Concordant Killer realizes that there is no way that they are the killer and instead asks them to find the killer in exchange for a favor later on.
@Bombastian1230 ahh long(ish) story but I can try. About 3 years ago I joined a group and a new dm. Small group, three people, the rogue and wizard were entirely new to dnd. The first quest was pretty standard punch a suspicious guy doing weird things in a crypt. At the end of it was a dead celestial-like creature that had been dissected or experimented on with the antagonist long gone. It was some silvery celestial fox kind of thing (probably homebrew. At least no creature I'm familiar with) Basically as soon as the rogue interacted with it another one appeared all enraged and got a surprise round. Used some holy attack and got a critical which instantly turned the rogue to dust. It then realized we were way too weak and unprepared to be the ones responsible and requested we find out who did in exchange for a reward. I was the one that tried to parlay or figure anything out about this, but got terrible rolls. Basically I said we'd only cooperate or even deal with it if it brought our buddy back to life. Foxy would only revive the rogue if and when we caught the culprit. With some vague threats on refusing to assist the heveans and crap. Wizard and I really didn't want anything to do with psycho fox. And rogue was absolutely furious that the character he spent hours crafting and getting to know got vaporized in the first 40 minutes. The dm just so happened to have a backup paladin that was in the worship of the foxes or whatever for rogue to play. Wizard and I really didn't want to help something that seemed no better than, and just as dangerous, as the villain. And rogue had zero interest or love for the char they were stuck playing. The dm was so excited for their plot hook and where the story lead with their celestial critters. Got all angry and upset when we referred to the dumb thing with frequent insults and annoyance. Rogue/Pally gave the barest sliver of role play and mostly one-word answers because he greatly disliked the character he was railroaded into playing. We pushed through 3 sessions before rogue just stopped showing up and didn't respond to messages. He contacted me a week later and just said he was painfully bored and didn't think dnd was anything he'd play in the future.

I got a plot hook idea from the whole "Kill one, end up with a vendetta" bit. Someone beat a Concordant Killer, but was smart enough to not kill it. Instead they imprisoned it somewhere. And did their own Alignment shennangans so that either True Neutral creatures can't find it or can't reach it. Cue another Concordant Killer helping the party, and the favor being to go find and free it's kin.
The Concordant Killers seeking vengeance against their killers is standard mafia mentality, and a good defense mechanism. They have this reputation as some of the best warriors in the multiverse, and you WILL summon more in vengeance if you best one in combat. This reputation alone would make interplanar warriors consider falling on their own sword before killing a Concordant Killer.
That sword held upside down at 5:49 is actually a fully valid fighting style. It's used for if your enemy is too armoured and you can't damage them with slashing damage. It turns the sword into a makeshift mace for bludgeoning damage

My player came up with a character that is a half angel/half succubi (aasimar) and this video gave me so many ideias that i could use for his character arc. He was abandoned by his parents as a child so maybe he was made as sort of "super soldier" project called project concordant and they disapeared because angels and devils were hunting his deserter parents
Another plot line could be helping a renown concordant killer on a quest to find a way for his race to have descendent. Hell this could be a whole campaign as the concordant killer has a reputation as a bloodthirsty and dangerous individual he couldn't really make amends with gods of birth, rebirth and the such to help him find a way for his people to not disappear (maybe he started looking for this method specifically because a large amount of concordant killers died all of a sudden, somebody might even be plotting their demise) and the party steps in, searching the multiverse for a way to help.

One way to combine the 3.5 and 4e lore together is have a god like The Raven Queen since she's neutral ressurect a couple as revenant to complete their vengance on the one who wronged them. Then they could be changed to Discord Incarnates.

I think one neat way these could be run would be kind of like a whole race of Abradolf Linclers from Rick and Morty. Keep everything about them taking contracts and seeking balance, but part of the reason they seek balance could be because inside themselves there's a ton of internal conflict, like with the 4th Ed. version. Seeking external balance might be part of how they maintain internal balance, keeping one side of themselves or the other from wreaking internal havoc.
I like the idea of a Concordant Killer aiding a small coven of Illithid(Mind Flayers) against Githyanki since Illithid are an endangered Species as Gith hunt them down.
If you think about it, it would be impossible to kill a concordant killer because if you ever did, another concordant killer could simply call in a favor for a resurrect spell
Resurrection spells require the soul to be free and willingly to be brought back, they don't explain what happens with their souls when they die. As a DM I would make them reincarnate inmediately into a mortal being when they die, requiring a Wish spell to find the creature they reincarnated into, a second one to restore their memories of their previous life and both a third Wish to give them back their bodies.
I'd just like to note that Protection from Good and Evil does _not_ work against Modrons, who're constructs, meaning these guys will now target you for giving them stats that favor Law.

Thanks for doing so many celestials, man( I know this one is just as much Fiend as celestial but still) they're the rarest creature type In the game by far, and we definitely need variety. These guys, the Word Archons, Sybilic guardians, and a few from Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica really brought that to my game
Alignment actually did recently come up for me, a paranoid godling had cast a spell of warding around their residence w/the intent to keep evil outsiders out, but it ended up warding their home from mortals of "dubious morality" as he put it when asked why two of our members were blocked from getting close; those two were the only ones in the party w/out a Good alignment, both being Neutral. We were told that they have to "clean their act up" if they wanted to come inside w/us.
About Protection vs Alignment spells, yeah, in fact, there were four different variants. You also had spells on the ethical spectrum of aligment as well as moral, which is to say you had Protection vs. Chaos/Law as well.
i think the origin of a good being and an evil being killing each other and creating them is far cooler than "some like god or something, like made them for like some reason"
The reason concordant killers love avenging their own kind is because if they see their actions as setting balance removing one of them from play would be an act of evil offsetting balance. Balance is restored once vengeance is achieved.
Now hearing about the story behind the Concodrant Killers... they straight up remind me of the 4 Horsemen from Darksiders. Enforcers of the balance in all of the realms while also being the unnatural union of the bloodlines of angels and demons.
A star walks into a black hole but doesn't seen phased. The black hole then turns to the star and says, "I don't think you understand the gravity of this situation."
These guys seem kind of cool, but it feels like they’re stepping on the OG true neutral preservers of Law a little bit, I’m talking of course about the Rilmani! Would love to see an episode on those, they’re so mysterious.
There's a lot to like, but I just gotta say that I appreciate the editing. Smooth, informative, and entertaining without being distracting. Quality work. Also, I dig the semi-formal vibe. Kind of feels like I'm watching the weather report (in a good way).
Only time I've ever scene a concordant killer was in a campaign my buddy specifically made to challenge the party as my table didn't usually play with alignments in mind we ended up allying with him as we hunted down a phantom thief warlock who had an unknown ability to open portals to other planes and used the burns on the walls from the portal as his calling card
I could easily see a way to meld the Discord Incarnate and the Concordant Killer. The Neutral God witnesses a Lawful Good and Chaotic Evil being of great power in conflict, they kill each other, and the Discord Incarnate is formed. However, the God sees it as an unrefined form of the being, since the essences don't merge perfectly, so sets out to collect powerful opposing essences, and experiments with fusing them, eventually creating the perfectly melded Concordant Killer
@@KevinVideo I think they will only reference using a standard Deathknight from the monster manual. Hopefully they will do more, Im more interested in DaDs own take on his monster creation.
@@chefchronos4288 It's more. He's a CR 19 compared to the standard CR 17 death knight with Legendary Resistance, Legendary Actions, and uses Foresaken Brand to attack. And if there's an official stat block, DaD doesn't do them. The only exception was the dullahan, and only because he released it around the same time as Van Richten's release.
Awesome sauce character art from 4e. I created one of these that could summon undead couatl mockery. Turned out to be a runaway clone tainted by Hell as my character could duplicate itself. Thanks for a new video. I know you have been busy with the kickstarter project.
I'm in the process of creating a campaign inspired loosely by castlevania & resident evil; this is actually the BBEG of that campaign. A few lore/stat tweeks and he's the only one ever created but was too powerful so all of the gods sealed him away. The players are exploring his castle unknowingly getting ready to unleash him.
As much as how the Concordant Killer is made from a God of Neutrality... I think it would be far more interesting if Concordant Killers were the literal bastard children of both celestials and fiends. Hell, maybe that's how the God of Neutrality put the two forces together, grabbing an celestial and devil they think are compatible on the barest level, creating a demiplane where they only have each other, and having the plane dull their connection to their alignments in order for them to connect more as people. I also think it could be an interesting and almost romantic myth where, say, an angel and a demon somehow did fall in love with each other. Maybe their intense rivalry for each other leads to them subconsciously depending on one and other, which leads to them both being unable to kill each other every single time. Soon, there fights become more casual and less serious, despite the context around it. Hell, they might even battle each other for no reason other than its an excuse to see each other. Maybe these casual fights become less fights and more just meet ups, where they argue their cosmic viewpoints and both begin to understand not just the other side but also the other person as a whole. Maybe the demon and angel if gaslight themselves into believing this isn't love and are just "taking a break" or they're trying to "corrupt" the other, when they're really both just lonely. Soon enough, things get heated enough, the wiggly bits fly, and then you got yourself the bastard child of the cosmos. Maybe the parent birthing the child dies because of the cosmic contradiction it makes, and the remaining parent takes the child to a Neutral God in order to hide their shame and them breaking the cosmic balance of the multiverse.
Story idea: one of the killers has found a way to make more of its kind, but it is a gruesome process that requires living subjects The kingdom has noticed some of its occupants going missing, and instructs the party to find out what's happening, and the breadcrumb trail leads right to the concordant killers front doorstep If you wanna take it a step further, after the players kill the BBEG, you can have legions of concordant killers show up a few months later looking for who killed one of their own kind
As a discordian I would say I am certainly not a chaotic being. So I do hold chaos is sacred. Chaos being the order of freedom or the freedom of order or some other cool sounding nonsense
They started out in 3rd edition. They're converted to Pathfinder, but through a third party (Dreamscarred Press, which is now a defunct company). I can add the race to the list though.
10:03 Logical argument to justify thet behaviour: if they establish thet whoever would kill one of them will be subject to their vengence (risking having to deal with way more of this) then anyone will stay away from tring to kill them. This has 2 effects: 1) their target will find it hard to employ someone to kill the concordant killers and 2) the direct attacks to their species are greatly diminished as the only safe way to attack them is if you have a great enough force to bring them to near extinction very VERY quickly
Ooo... Gonna use these as creations of The Pact. Basically making a setting where the gods are on one side, and the eldritch on the other, with dragons being... very annoyed and unwilling arbiters of balance, as it would be quite annoying for the prime material realm to go the way of both the abyss and hells... subsumed by beings from The Deep. 12 gods, 12 eldritch beings, and 4 Draconis. The Draconis are basically dragon gods- the most powerful dragons of the three types (Gem, Metal, Chome, and Metaphysical). Dragons are The First, and all other beings, including gods, came after. The Concordant Killer will hunt any "Unsanctioned Beings" i.e. ones who come to the Material plane of it's own power without being summoned through a ritual or spell. (Corrupted creatures are allowed, as well as agents, "blessed" mortals, cultists, clerics, etc.)
I imagine a Dragon Lance campaign where they appear during the War of the Lance and they decide to join the forces of Good in order to compensate their lack of dragons. It also would be interesting how their presence would affect settings like Ravenloft or Dark Sun.
In an alternate universe, the concordant killer would be the answer to what race Adam Sandler's "Little Nicky" is. Appreciate you doing up this creature. Didn't know about the 4e version until today, and... Wow. That was a thing, huh? The 3.5 version is definitely better. Especially the name. Monster Manual 4 is such a good book. Monsters are actually balanced, there's a healthy amount of lore (more multiple worlds too), you get bonus adventures and maps, and the creatures are amazing. Not sure if you fixed it by now or not, but noticed on the high res statblock in the video that Indestrucoboy made, it said "Fiend (Clestial)" instead of Celetial. I see that's fixed on the Google Doc, so wondering if the other one was update too. I need to know the official art source for that Primus Judas. XD BTW, love how fancy you look. Very teacher-like.
I do think the 4e new way of them... having more of the species is a good way to give them away to multiply. And it could also be a super rare event to happen.
another idea is a concordant killer becomes disillusioned with the idea of balance and its relevance to an increasingly complex world, and seeks to find itself. Think Castiel from Supernatural's arc.
My only encounter with one as a player was the bbeg hired one to prevent our interruption of a ritual. The DM played on the neutral party aspect having not I terested in killing us just stopping us as the contract stated.
I'd been told for my entire formative D&D player experience that hybridizing celestials and fiends was impossible, that you'd either make something inert or that it just wouldn't work at all. Guess my main DM and like half the internet skipped this MM. I love how to punctuate you saying "if they couldn't use swords, they'd be shit killers," you showed a knight doing a mordhau.
Hi Dungeon dad, I'm not sure if this comment will get to you but I would to take this moment to thank you for one very unusual thing. Thank you for still using human art for your videos. I know it's a small thing but as an artist, I have always felt the collaborative nature of ttrpgs have always included human artists and their translation of words into visual brilliance. I have seen many DND creators starting to use AI art and my feelings that the factory-line, morally divisive aspect of it felt like a blow to the humanity of it all. These interpretations are not humans, but machine. Mechanus made them, not the wild emotions of denizens of Arborea.

These guys, the Word Archons, Sybilic guardians, and a few from Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica really brought that to my game
3.5 had the best covers. Really made the books feel like ancient tomes
"I Have No Strong Feelings One Way or the Other"
i think the origin of a good being and an evil being killing each other and creating them is far cooler than "some like god or something, like made them for like some reason"
The reason concordant killers love avenging their own kind is because if they see their actions as setting balance removing one of them from play would be an act of evil offsetting balance. Balance is restored once vengeance is achieved.
Always love seeing your uploads!
I appreciate that!
I am so happy that Koefficient's DnD channel is popping off! Good Shit!
These are just Yugoloths that aren't jobbers
Now hearing about the story behind the Concodrant Killers... they straight up remind me of the 4 Horsemen from Darksiders. Enforcers of the balance in all of the realms while also being the unnatural union of the bloodlines of angels and demons.
A star walks into a black hole but doesn't seen phased. The black hole then turns to the star and says, "I don't think you understand the gravity of this situation."
Sounds like something a Pink Dragon would say.
Imagine a big bad kidnapping angels and demons to try to replicate the process.
And then succeeding and subsequentially getting absolutely destroyed.
@@Izbiski_ whoops
These guys seem kind of cool, but it feels like they’re stepping on the OG true neutral preservers of Law a little bit, I’m talking of course about the Rilmani! Would love to see an episode on those, they’re so mysterious.
There's a lot to like, but I just gotta say that I appreciate the editing. Smooth, informative, and entertaining without being distracting. Quality work.
Also, I dig the semi-formal vibe. Kind of feels like I'm watching the weather report (in a good way).
Partly lawful with a chance of chaos?
You ajpickett and mr rexx are the best channels for dnd lore. Love your content dude
Unfortunately, AJ has moved away from DND after the OGL fiasco.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING
🎉
We're Canadian so we had ours last month. The sentiment is definitely appreciated.
If you're American, Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
They are essentially Eternal Champions from the Elric of Melnibone series.
I really love the rampage of the Valkyries art coming on when you say when somebody kills one of them
I would like to see some updated Lord Soth and his knights of the rose, because of the new book coming out.
Lord Soth is in the new upcoming book.
One of my favorites! I like to imagine them alot like the Horseman from Darksiders.
Thank you for talking down Mariah, she's been too overzealous and someone had to lol
This monster was very well timed and fit a storyline hook i was trying to create for Carceri! thnaks very much!
I saw that 'The Great Geode' map and immediately had flashbacks to high-school.
Watched this and the harvester devil episode back to back and got some crazy ideas my friend. Thank you
This is one very cool monster
also that is one very cool tie sir
Maybe the parent birthing the child dies because of the cosmic contradiction it makes, and the remaining parent takes the child to a Neutral God in order to hide their shame and them breaking the cosmic balance of the multiverse.
great video and a great introduction to your channel. easily earned subscription Dad. can’t wait to see what you put out next
yooooo the music in this one was so on point! seriously making me want to try playing again
Damm, I missed this creature for years in my DND campaigns
Story idea: one of the killers has found a way to make more of its kind, but it is a gruesome process that requires living subjects
The kingdom has noticed some of its occupants going missing, and instructs the party to find out what's happening, and the breadcrumb trail leads right to the concordant killers front doorstep
If you wanna take it a step further, after the players kill the BBEG, you can have legions of concordant killers show up a few months later looking for who killed one of their own kind
I appreciate your long episodes, thank you👋😄
this video made me realize i havent played in alignment based game in 12 years or so, wow!
I'm thinking about these guys sorta like Predator. If one is slain fair and square they'll pay respects and take the body away.
Your D&D channel is my favorite D&D channel.
That genuinely means the world to me, thanks for gassing me up!
As a discordian I would say I am certainly not a chaotic being. So I do hold chaos is sacred. Chaos being the order of freedom or the freedom of order or some other cool sounding nonsense
Fairy PC: I'm in danger
So they're kind of like a predator from aliens VS predator a mercenary who can become invisible in or freaking scary in one on one fights
There is a Maenad race in the Pathfinder. Psionic sailors who killed their god. I recommend checking.
They started out in 3rd edition. They're converted to Pathfinder, but through a third party (Dreamscarred Press, which is now a defunct company). I can add the race to the list though.
Ahhh that NES batman music... Fits pretty well with the Concordant killer too
10:03 Logical argument to justify thet behaviour: if they establish thet whoever would kill one of them will be subject to their vengence (risking having to deal with way more of this) then anyone will stay away from tring to kill them.
No joke, this was a _juicy_ video. An absolutely fantastic idea. Extremely interesting concept.
Monkey-suit Dungeon Dad!
Also they sound like they should be working for the rilmani.
I remember seeing this sick-ass creature's art in the 3.5 book back in the day! Thanks for giving it an update!
All the game grumps references in the first minute
I was wondering if anyone would notice that hahaha
I imagine a Dragon Lance campaign where they appear during the War of the Lance and they decide to join the forces of Good in order to compensate their lack of dragons.
It also would be interesting how their presence would affect settings like Ravenloft or Dark Sun.
God I miss playing
Discord Incarnate? So they'll give you a celestial boon for feet pics of a minor. Super sus.
XD
BTW, love how fancy you look. Very teacher-like.
so its DNA is D&A?
Omg!😂
Thanks
This monster is awesome. I hope I get to play a campaign where they are involved.
They definitely have a secret base. But it's also definitely an open field. A truly level field.
I loved this monster it is awesome
I do think the 4e new way of them... having more of the species is a good way to give them away to multiply. And it could also be a super rare event to happen.
4:24 That god got killed by adventurers. I guarantee it.
Not sure why, but I immediately thought of Rick cashing in on a favor the Concordant killers owe him XD
another idea is a concordant killer becomes disillusioned with the idea of balance and its relevance to an increasingly complex world, and seeks to find itself.
