Ahhh this song really hits me hard. Man, Jesper Kyd is a genius! The song really capture the game the story the ambiance, and the tune is really catchy.
Jesper Kyd is an incredible and underrated composer. His soundtracks for the Hitman games and the Ezio trilogy are the sounds of my adolescence. They stand unbeaten by those who stepped up to follow in his footsteps (not to say their soundtracks are bad, perhaps it’s just rose-tinted nostalgia clouding my vision)
although this piece describes very tragic events in game for some reason i don't associate it with those events for me it feels like some mystery awaits and it brings sense of wonder and uplifting feeling in me
The greatest thing I ever came to realize about this song is that while it is titled Ezio's family, it doesn't mean his direct or indirect family, but the brotherhood and the creed itself. That's why you will find a track labeled (or similar) Ezio's family in every AC game. Each one is a part of the assassin family, but each with their own personal style.
This song has become the main theme of the AC series with the later games reworking the song based on time period, pretty much every AC OST is a masterpiece.
Man this song hits home with witnessing the journey of Ezio and his legacy to have a beautiful song with his path. 😭 also it seems touching that this song has different versions throughout each game and make it unique to use if you want to never forget the Creed.
you're analysis is so thoughtful, i also feel like the composition almost encapsulates the feelings of Ezio so well, from the innocent vocals that take a haunting turn, to the anger and determination of the electric guitar and under it all is this very subtle acoustic guitar riff that shows the melancholy sensitive being beneath all the anger and pain, overall its basically an epic, and depending what mood you're in can make you cry tears of joy from admiring the beauty of lives and the incredible amount of interesting people we meet, or it can make you weep out of sadness for all the pain you've been dealt
Venice rooftops is amazing as well. This game has a freaking phenomenal OST. There is also a version that transitions from Ezios family to Venice rooftops which is amazing. The best part as well, is that most games in the series have amazing soundtracks as well, so it's not like it was just a one-hit wonder or something.
I can honestly listen to every track in Origins, over and over. Valhalla is definitely up there but the second half of the album starts to lose me a little, but Origins I can listen to every song on repeat honestly. Best part is not only is Sarah involved in both, but you we also got Jesper Kid back. Course can't forget AC4 sea shanties either.
Out of all the videogames Ive played, I think Assassin's Creed is the only series where I dedicated so much time looking up the names of the songs and soundtracks they composed for the games. Sometimes, it's the music during moments of the games, movies, or TV episodes that make it so memorable and there will always be a special place for a song like this in my heart.
"Ezio's Family" playing at the title card of ACII has always been considered an iconic and untouchable moment, even now, 13 years later. When I first heard it in 2009 it already got me a bit, but I vividly remember replaying the game month or so after finishing Revelations for the first time and hearing baby Ezio and Federico... I burst out crying And yeah, that scene hits different knowing what would happen to Ezio's family, devs fully knew what they were doing Plus, maybe a hot take, I don't like how future games started using this theme. It started feeling like nostalgia bait more than anything else, it was like Ubisoft went all like "you remember playing Assassin's Creed 2? How you loved it? Here you go with a game that's nothing like that but it's AC because this song-". It feels like diminishing its impact and what it truly is. But maybe that's just me, so many people seem to love that. Well, happens
if it was the same theme, then maybe i’d feel that way. but i like how they change it up for each game, so it’s not a copy. it still has the core values of ezios family, but just changed to fit whatever the current assassin is.
@@S0LAVELLANHELL Idk, it always rang hollow for me in other games and felt more damaging for the other characters than helping establishing them. It's always, to me, been a theme for not even a character of Ezio, but specific feelings and situations of his life. Walshie's video "Devaluation of Ezio's family" basically explains my feelings on the matter and I think he does a great job explaining what this piece represents. Though, as I said, it's just how I feel. Also, every protagonist deserved such an epic theme just for them. Haytham and Connor and Edward were never associated with this piece, and that only served their characters imo
Honestly I absolutely loved how they'd use the theme again in later games. It not only helps all the games feel more intimately connected with eachother, but each and every rendition of the theme is just so masterfully and uniquely done I adore it. This really does deserve to be the defacto theme for the franchise
Its safe to say that this song is what I'd call the heart and soul of the AC series. It just encompasses everything about it. Jesper Kyd just made a song that sits firmly in gaming music history as one of the best songs.
This song is with me since I was little, so nostalgic. I love your genuine reaction to this. Music from AC games is otherworldly. There's literally nothing like these soundtracks. Even new AC games have mindblowing and beautiful music. Thank you
For those curious about who is the singer in this track, it's Ben del Maestro , (then) a young boy, now a grown man.. He also sang for Lord of the Rings movies , especially remarked in " The battle of plennor fields " when rohirrims charge the orcs at the battle of minas tirith at the end of the movie . Just saying this because Meg said "her voice " when it's a him . fun fact .
Love that they plays this song not only in the intro scene, but also when Ezio dons the Assassins Robes for the first time. You truly feel like you are watching the birth of a legend. “It is a good life we lead, brother.” “The best. May it never change.” “And may it never change us..” Ubisoft presents ASSASSIN’S CREED II
The beginning to Assassin’s Creed II just hit differently. It was such a chipper, light-hearted opening, almost child-like fashion, and I think the infamous quite encapsulates this perfectly; “It is a good life we lead brother. - The best. May it never change. - And may it never change us.”. Truly childlike in its naivete and inexperience, but as you all know, it is coming, which the cinematography of that moment almost foreshadows. His family imprisoned, Ezio is then tasked with delivering the one piece of evidence that could prove the his family’s innocence, but betrayed by a man he trusted, Ezio sealed the fate of his family’s fate when he handed it over to him. Ezio has to grow up, from being an irresponsible and carefree boy roaming the streets of Florence, to a man bereaved by the death of his family, devoting his life to bringing them justice and preventing this from happening to anyone else, all at the drop of a hat.
Back when it first came out, this song transcended the realm of gaming music and felt like something more, something truly special. Credit to Jesper Kyd for composing this hauntingly beautiful masterpiece.
Ezio's Family is (not sure if officially) the Franchise's theme song. as after the trilogy, all of the next games have their own version of the music. What's beautiful in that is that most of the Assassin protagonists are within one bloodline. so yeah, "Ezio's Family."
This song pulls the relevant emotions and memories out of me against my will, not that I'm fighting them really. I was 13 or so when I first played AC2, it was my first of the series, and the tragedy that strikes Ezio was a serious shock to me, like I was unaware of that kind of tragedy at the time. Especially due to similarities between Ezio's family and mine, it was disorientating to see them warped and broken in that way, I couldn't help but imagine something like that striking my siblings and parents. Years later and hearing the tune has never failed to stop me in my tracks, just to listen and feel those things again. A genuine masterpiece in our time. A truly special piece of art.
I start tearing up hearing the first few notes, every single time. Contrary to some people, I do love how this theme is re-used throughout other games, each in their own unique way. I can't wait for you to recognize the theme in future games and have those emotions wash over you. It may be a cheap trick (though I disagree with that statement, there may be some merit to it), but it works very, very well.
@@earendilthemariner5546 Because Jesper Kyd didn't write it to be the Assassin's Creed theme. He wrote it specifically for Ezio. For his personal pain, journey, and growth. Assassins' theme sounds completely different and it's present in AC1 (Masyaf), 2 (Villa Auditore), and Brotherhood (Assassin Hideout). I love Ezio's theme but only in the context of his trilogy where it belongs. I wish they reused Revelations' "Assassin's Creed Main Theme" instead if they wanted to have a common musical theme.
I've heard this many a times and I cry everytime I hear this piece😂It gives me so many emotions/nostalgia it hurts to listen to. Maybe it has to do with this being my favorite game and Ezio being my fave character of all time. What I always think of as I listen to this is Ezio's journey, his fall and his rise, the life he leads, the lessons he learns and how in the end, he becomes a very wise man. We got to watch him grow up😢
Just fantastic, that's all there is to say about it. This Music is with me on every Playlist, whether in the Car, at Home or when I'm just walking the Dogs

I can’t add anything more versus what you said. The song… means something now and it always will, regardless of when you hear it in any games to come. And thank you, as always, not just for playing, but inspiring.
"Ezio's Family"... Sounds like seeing fields of golden wheat you can no more walk towards to. Like lost innocence and bittersweet memories. The more you play, the more different feelings become attached to this theme. "Earth" and "Venice Rooftops" try for different moods (and it's **very** hard for me to choose a favourite between them) but they all started here. In my perception, the theme's name has a double meaning... Both for the Auditore's family and the assassins, who are in a way his found family.
I'm just beginning to watch your walkthrough and I'm loving it. Assassin's creed 2 was the first AC game I ever play and each time I get to hear Ezio's Family I get goosebumps
It's so beautiful. It's speaks to it's perfection that's it's the melody they chose to continue throughout the whole AC series. Every time I hear the melody in it's various forms through the years, I get teary-eyed and chills.
In that moment, the hanging, Ezio went from carefree boy to a man full of resolve and driven to avenge his father and brothers. I agree that this theme encapsulates that very well.
It would be incredible that at the beginning of each game you react to their themes and to the versions of ezio family, this masterpiece basically became assassins creed's anthem
Amazing how empowering music can impact on a person. When it's put together so masterfully. You could feel the heart, and soul that went into a song. Being emotionally drawn to music is a natural thing though at least for me.
Honestly, I’m very excited for you to play all of the games, but I don’t envy your immense task. I was lucky enough to keep up with the games for a while, but playing them all from start to finish is a huge undertaking. I’m impressed and excited for it!
Assassin's creed the ezio collection will forever be preserved in time as the pinnacle of assassin's Creed. What i would give to play them for the first time again
Fun fact, Jesper Kyd returned for the most recent game, Valhalla, which serves as an end-cap on many storylines of the first “saga” of the series. His music returning is the icing on the cake for me. It feels like Avengers: Endgame lol.
I don't know if there's a single song from gaming that has impacted me as much as this one. I come back to it every couple months. I havent really followed the AC games after AC2, but for some reason I always think of this song from time to time.
This evolved into the defacto theme of Assasins creed, almost every game has a version of Ezios Family in it, I love Rouges version a lot but you’ll get to that eventually.
Each game in the series tends to pick a particular musical direction based off of either the time period, the culture, or a mix of both. The instrumentation will subtly change to meet the setting and Ezio's Family, the main theme of the franchise, will also subtly change along with the settings. It's an interesting detail to keep an ear out for as you move forward.
This song has no lyrics, but when you play Ezio trilogy, you get every bit of it. It encapsulates Ezio's journey perfectly and brings out all emotions within the player.
I know girl! This song is so beautiful! It gives such a religious, suspenseful, and also sad vibe to it. This sound track gives such a amazing vibe for Ezio’s story. It kinda gives the vibe for the whole story of Ezio. It’s a masterpiece. They did SO GOOD with this. I can’t stop listening to it.

This song is a miracle. I think the next song you like will be (although all of AC are beautiful) is the theme from AC Revelations. (my favorite) I think you'll like it when you get to this part of the game. It touches a lot. You perceive a song differently knowing the characters and their story, and not listening blindly without knowing anything. Your reactions are very honest and I love them. A beautiful adventure awaits you and I wish you a lot of fun and probably many sad experiences.

Glad you got to experience the game, it’s got one of the few pieces of music that can make you cry out of sheer beauty. A true and rare masterpiece.
"It's a good life we lead brother."
"The best. May it never change."
"And may it never change us."
3:52 that smile you had when you heard the guitar was awesome, it put a smile on my face as well
I get chills every time I hear ezios family it always takes me back to this moments and makes me want to replay the trilogy
From Al Assassin's creed characters, Ezio is my favourite by far
I love that you included this in the playlist
Fun fact, Jesper Kyd returned for the most recent game, Valhalla, which serves as an end-cap on many storylines of the first “saga” of the series. His music returning is the icing on the cake for me. It feels like Avengers: Endgame lol.
I don't know if there's a single song from gaming that has impacted me as much as this one. I come back to it every couple months. I havent really followed the AC games after AC2, but for some reason I always think of this song from time to time.
It also plays when you got the assassin’s robes.
Pretty sure this song is one of the most popular video game themes there is. It's gotta be up there with the Halo theme.
This song is so beautiful, makes me cry every time.
3:51 always my reaction to this part. Including lifting up my hand for an air guitar riff :)
This evolved into the defacto theme of Assasins creed, almost every game has a version of Ezios Family in it, I love Rouges version a lot but you’ll get to that eventually.
The track that set the course of assassin's Creed forever 😍😌
You know it’s legendary when later games that take place hundreds of years before STILL have Ezio’s Family theme
Such beautiful and elegant music. One of the things I love about AC is how wonderful their soundtrack is
Ezio will always be the spirit of Assassin's Creed
Just as awesome as always. Thanks for for doing this "MegMage ✨️👏
Just so you know; Every Assassin's Creed has their own rendition of Ezio's Family. It has become such a staple of the franchise.
"It's our ability to choose, whatever you think is true, that makes us humans"
Chills every damn time ...
I'm someone listen this song carefully he or she would definitely cry 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 I love assassin's ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This one theme song carried the soul of assassin's creed games will....this will always be iconic ❤️✨
Nah this is literally the music that’s gonna be played in heaven and also giving Vietnam flashbacks at the same time
I can't say how much I appreciate that you are gonna play through all the Assassin's Creed games 😃
This song has no lyrics, but when you play Ezio trilogy, you get every bit of it. It encapsulates Ezio's journey perfectly and brings out all emotions within the player.
This song also becoming Assassin's Creed Rogue menu theme with its own style, more like sea shanty because the game "more on the sea than land"
Beautiful times when Ubisoft made good games
From Japan to the American Colonies, to Greece and up to Norway...this theme has evolved beautifully.
Also fun fact! You already heard ezios family in the assassins creed mirage trailer.
It is a good life we lead brother
The best
May it never change and never change us
how do human beings even create this
i have loved this for a long time, one of my first music albums i bought that related to a game. I want to go back and play this now
Really good réaction ! I discover you with your reaction at all assassins creed trailer and it's cool to see you play and listen music. After that listen the theme of assassins creed 3, it's the definition of the epicness :).
Continu your content, it's cool to watch ! ^^
Much love from France ^^
YEARS AGO WHEN UBISOFT LOVED THEIR JOB AND ASSASSINS CREED SERIES... LIKE IN THIS COM SO I CAN COME BACK AND LISTEN TO THIS MASTERPIECE!
Yes! YES. It surprises me how little people mention Revelations in general. I'm looking forward to her reaction to it.
and yet this seems to be the theme to Assassins Creed now, Ezio is the Creed
_"It is a good life we lead brother."_
This song is so nostalgic, used to play this game every school night
Its crazy how this concept has been reiterated into the other games in their own unique way. This song has become the main theme for the franchise. Which never happens because its from the sequel and not the first game.
Even after all these years and countless playings this still hits hard for me at least
I’m so happy I got a platinum trophy for this masterpiece!! I got chills every single time!!
Ezio is the best AC char of All Times AC 2 MASTERPIECE
I'd be terrible at reaction videos listening to these soundtracks and others, I'd cry too much. I'm ridiculously emotional with music lol
6:55 Oh honey, we cry. We've been crying for 15 years. Still.
