I I apologize for the one video clip that was entered twice!
Maybe follow up with oxalic vapor after your Thymovar treatment? Edit: Wrote this while watching, you now mentioned it.
I like your clean honey house
I hear ya. Watching your video. Your colonies look good. Mine are still brooding as well.
@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog Thank you. It's good they are still brooding and got mites treatment applied earlier to clear the mites. Nice to have lots of young bees for winter. The weather is warmer than normal, that make them keep going.
Time restrictions aside, I'm pretty sure your single dose of thyme will not get those hives ready. I hope you have time for some other treatments aside from OA. Have no idea what. Guess you could do a second 10 day dose of Apiguard. Leaving you with plenty of time before wrapping. Keep us apprised sir. Looking forward to your updates, prayers lifted.
@@MinnesotaBeekeeper If I would go for OA Vap, it has to be twice. The last one has to be broodless just before wrapping. Thank you for watching!
@@chamberelga1653 Absolutely. I'm doing one or two more. Then a final dose right before I wrap. You'll get it figured out brother!
My experience with thymovar is similar. I am not sure the covering of the pads makes a significant impact on mite kill as I do not believe the thymol level would be maintained strong enough to kill a might even 4 days after application. On day one the smell to me was very strong and the bees bearded quit a bit... it was also hot so heavy off gassing. By day four they were back to work and the smell was greatly reduced. I removed the pads on day 17 and replaced them as per instructions. Very little in the way of bees moving out but it almost 10 C cooler now.
Two things that matter that the sellers are not saying are... there are a lot of factors influencing the rate of gas off and even 20% lower than the max does and it would not kill mites. So at 30C day and night this stuff might kill every adult in 24 hours but at 20C and 4C at night the gas off is so low it might not actually even get strong enough to kill mite.
WE as bee keepers have to stop excepting the killing of the adults and scream for something that kills the larvae. How many years did we spray for mosquitos until we admitted killing the adults was a waste of time when the swamp had millions ready to hatch... One cup of Canola oil on your pond and ALL of the mosquitos are dead. Cheap and effective but there is NO money in it for the pesticide companies.
ua-cam.com/video/zri6y1Dde04/v-deo.html I just found this yesterday. If a person combined this treatment with an OA vape while the brood was being cooked I see this as at least a 99% kill rate and that has a real impact. Lets not spend too much time talking about how impractical it is.... it is "impractical" to keep trying pesticide after pesticide to kill only adults is simply a stop gap short term fix..... and it cost a lot! People in your shoes would have to move the pesticide budget to the labor budget but it would actually work while the pesticides are a rabbit hole that never ends.
I am in BC. I enjoy the content. It is always great to see someone passionate about their work.
Recommended 2 treatments with Thymovar one following the other to catch emerging mites
@willowbee5851 I would love to do that, but by the time it has to be withdrawn, my hives would be wrapped already. Not enough time. I appreciate your recommendation.
I had the same thought process. Im doing one Thymovar and will follow with oxalic acid for time reasons as well. @@chamberelga1653
You have a few honey supers stacked up it appears.😁Congratulations.
@@dcsblessedbees Thank you!
