I use tea bags as a compost additive - every few days, I take all the used tea bags outside, rip them open and empty the tea leaves into my bag of compost and mix it in well. I also use whole tea bags (used) to block the drainage holes in plant pots - it stops soil from leaking out, helps retain the water in the soil and provides nutrients to the roots of the plants.
@@Limerick24 I've used them for succulents, both mixed into the potting compost and to line the bottoms of pots. However, if you're using to line the bottom of a pot you should remember that they will retain water for longer than soil, so be careful not to overwater your succulents if you've got whole tea bags in the bottom of the pot.

I was told that tea bags have very tiny balls of plastic in them which never degrade.I used to put them on my compost but not any more. The rest of the information is great thanks .
The idea of using a teabag to treat a cold sore has some basis in home remedies, particularly because of the properties found in certain teas. Here's a breakdown of why this might work and its effectiveness: 1. Tannins in Tea Tea, especially black tea, contains tannins-natural astringents that may help dry out cold sores. Tannins also have mild antiviral properties, which might inhibit the herpes simplex virus responsible for cold sores. 2. Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant Properties Green tea is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which could help reduce swelling and speed up healing. These properties might soothe the affected area and minimize irritation. 3. Moisture from the Teabag A damp, cooled teabag could also provide a soothing, cool compress, which can reduce discomfort, especially in the early stages of a cold sore. Does It Work? While there is anecdotal evidence suggesting that used teabags can provide relief for cold sores, there is limited scientific research directly supporting this method as a reliable or effective treatment. The antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects are mild compared to antiviral creams or medications specifically designed for cold sores, such as docosanol or acyclovir. Professional Recommendations Dermatologists generally recommend over-the-counter antiviral creams or prescription treatments for more effective and faster relief. However, using a teabag is unlikely to cause harm and might provide temporary relief or comfort. Precautions Ensure that the teabag has cooled to avoid burns. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare professional for stronger antiviral treatment options. @@luisafoodadventure5294 For cold sores, black tea and green tea are often considered the best options due to their beneficial properties: 1. Black Tea Rich in tannins, black tea has antiviral and astringent properties that may help dry out a cold sore and reduce inflammation. It's one of the most commonly suggested types for cold sore relief. 2. Green Tea Green tea is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which might soothe irritation and help speed up the healing process. Caffeinated vs. Decaf Caffeine content is generally not a major factor when using tea for cold sores, as the beneficial properties come from compounds like tannins and polyphenols, which are present in both caffeinated and decaf varieties. However, caffeinated tea might have slightly more tannins, potentially offering a stronger drying effect. If you're sensitive to caffeine, decaf should still provide most of the desired benefits. Other Teas to Consider Chamomile Tea: Contains apigenin, which has anti-inflammatory and mild antiviral properties, making it a gentle option for soothing irritation. Peppermint Tea: Contains menthol, which has antiviral properties, though it might be more suitable as a cooling compress rather than directly targeting the cold sore virus. Preparation Tips Use a cooled, steeped teabag (ideally kept in the fridge for a short time) to ensure it's not too hot and to enhance the cooling sensation. Press it gently against the cold sore for 10-15 minutes, 2-3 times a day, to see if it helps with symptoms. I save my tea bags, let them dry - then empty out all the dried up tea into a container & use it as fertilizer for plants. Be sure to rinse thorroughly if you use sugar/milk in your tea, or simply make it a habit to add them after removing tea bag. EXCELLENT FOR PLANTS, BTW!! Green tea fixes damaged or plants that have problems - it acts like a vitamin. I even use it for my trees!?
