Regardless the politics Ricky Gervais is a brilliant stand-up. A true master of the comedic art. And he's just being himself with the anti-woke common sense. Woke is ripe for parody.

Ricky is a genius, look at the stuff he has done. He goes to the edge but knows just when to stop. People criticised Derek. But his portrayal was brilliant and Derek came over as the smartest most caring individual.
He did do an amazing job to be fair.
What I found amazing is that he made me feel sympathy for the most repulsive character in derek ie kev. I wouldn't go so far as to say I liked him even though it was touching that he made derek a substitute dog but I did have sympathy for him when he failed to get the job and went back on the booze. As for after life I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. Heartbreaking

Yes, well if you find his joke funny, that's great! I can see why you like him. His entire career has been built around being offensive to people. "Oh it's just jokes". No. In many cases he is rude. Plus I don't find cursing funny either.
He, like so many of the other "comedians" he allegedly pokes fun at is a one joke pony that's as funny as a cancer diagnosis.
By the way, these days I DO watch other things rather than him except when it sneaks through like this travesty has.

I feel sorry for the younger generation. They seem to be lacking knowledge, lacking an understanding of the truth, lacking in a sense of humour, lacking in self understanding and awareness and even lacking in being able to form relationships and create little ones to carry on the human legacy. Basically, they seem to be lacking the capability of living a full life and taking personal responsibility. It is a very sad state of affairs imo

not my son , hes 17 and we have regular discussions about all this nonsense and hes not afraid to call out woke ideology. Its up to parents to show their kids the other viewpoint and keep them openminded

Ricky Gervais is a crusader for comedy as we know it and is defiant in his material. There are a few comedians who will go right up to the line and push it wask against the woke, deadpan snowflakes who would be delighted to find everything offensive. However, good comedy points out the humour in life, even when life can be horrible. We should start to laugh in the face of depression which is the alternative to good humour. Ricky Gervais should get a Knighthood from our current Goon liking King and maybe they together would even make a joke about that, and quite correctly. The awards system, due to our politicians, has been made into another comedy. I am sure King Charles can see that.

I believe in comedy nothing is out of bounds. Being able to laugh at ourselves and each other is a very British thing. Humour and especially dark and edgy humour is what separates us from a lot of other people and whether your a lefty or a righty or somewhere in-between it doesn't matter as long as it's funny! 👍🏼 Happy New Year Jan 🍻🥳

I had to watch that third skit because it had me in stitches, 'you'll be in your house crying'.
The problem is that once Ricky Gervais gets tired / too old for stand up , there will be nobody new to replace him. Sure, he was too big to cancel, but the woke brigade just need to bide their time and wait for him to retire. After that, there will be nobody. Any comedian who steps one inch out of line will be gone.
And this is scary, because comedy is the best way to stand up against this kind of mind control

Woke comedy is not dying as it has never been alive
Saw him in Brum last year. Outstanding. He was genuinely sick, dosed up to the eyeballs with flu medication, and still pulled off an amazing show. The audience screamed and hollered at every woke joke he came out with. Almost like a release of our suppressed humour.

Comedy greats like George Carlin, Bill Hicks and Lenny Bruce blazed a trail and 'offended' ' both the left and right snowflakes.
I saw James Acaster at a small trial gig in northampton. When he first started as a comedian i thought he was a funny boned chap ( non political ). He came on, then started attacking brexit. At that point people were sick of brexit, didn't matter what side you were on the audience just didn't want to hear about it. We wanted comedy. When he heard the audience groan at its mention he attacked the crowd for apparently all being brexiters. Refused to carry on and sat in the corner of the room and sulked until everyone left. The audience were not all brexiters. we just wanted an escape from the topic and laugh at unrelated jokes. His plan a flopped and he had no plan b. Not a great night out.

I'm a big fan of Ricky Gervais but I get he's not to everyone's taste. That doesn't mean that because somebody doesn't like him or what he says that they have the right to try and cancel him or anybody else. If you don't like it don't watch it, it's that simple. I don't find Frankie Boyle or James Acaster funny but I wouldn't want them cancelled. Just live and let live.

You and the 13 other goobers who upvoted this just didn't understand the point I guess? People on Maternity leave (or a lesser degree, Paternity leave) are entitled to paid leave under law. Without question. No other form of leave comes close. Perhaps she was flippant in her reasoning (considering the show format, I can't blame her) and sure it's nice to skive off for 6 months without reason, but even that is only against the reason of simply being 'up the duff' when *you* so choose. You do realise they have no mandated maternity leave federally across the US? It's up for the state to figure out and their averages don't even compare.

Half the U.K. are getting paid by the Government - not to work. Just say you have anxiety or something similar. When I had three kids, there was no benefits then. I was anxious. - because I couldn’t feed my kids. I got three part time jobs, worked like a donkey - my anxiety disappeared….

Completely agree about everyone getting maternity/paternity leave, not just parents. It seems really unfair that some people get extra time off work fully paid, whilst others don't.

The BBC has killed off good comedy by being too Woke and not allowing cutting edge stuff! The whole idea for having comedy is to raise otherwise & attack difficult subjects! The three main comedy programs on the BBC ( Mock the week, Live at the Apollo, & Have I got news for you.) have all deteriorated into bland but vulgar nonsense or personal bodily functions, all that are not funny!

I think a entertainer is immune from woke if they are very wealthy and successful but if they are starting out in the business the woke ideology will destroy their career.

Paternity leave is shocking, let’s talk about dads being able to help to look after baby and mother during the most stressful time (Hormones all over the place, lack of sleep, possible cluster feeding baby etc) and the fact that they can’t afford to in most cases. He is also sleep deprived and wants to be present with mother and baby (Some don’t but many do).
Bring back the BUFFET BAR on trains,,, best place if you have to STAND for the WHOLE JOURNEY!!!!

Speaking as someone who's not far off 60 I wouldn't agree with Ricky that we've had the best 60 years of the planet, in terms of freedom. 35 maybe, from when the sixties freedoms properly got going for the average person in about 1966, to September 2001.
