I have a MX88 as my main keyboard, AND.....I have a MX49 just for leads. Killer flutes, saxes, and other sounds for leads and such; however, for strings, i still us my Kurzweil PC161.
I have the MX88. Really like what you played starting at 1:30. You really rock it with soul. I'd like the drum patch setting and the chord progression please. It sounds sooo great.
For some reason, I love this keyboard. It is older than the new keyboards and does not seem like an ultra-efficient workstation but it seems to have a performance instrument characteristic like the best digital pianos did like the Korg M1.
We get so caught up in gear too, forgetting that the actual "information", meaning the music, chords, melodies, riffs, and so on, is what is actually important. If you have that down, then most keyboards from even 15-20 years ago will sound great.
@@dynoroad I generally agree, however it is difficult to extract genuinely unique and interesting sounds from weak musical tools. Although a skilled producer can use any sound in samples or integrate it into the mix. Listening to a favourite artist sing and play using an entry Casio keyboard from the 1990's will be better than listening to me try to sing whilst using a high end Yamaha or Korg keyboard linked to a modern DAW.

For the MX88, Yamaha added the XF soundset to the XS sounds in the previous MX boards. So now, it's a good cheaper, alternative to a Motif XF or MOXF8. If you don't need the bigger display, expansion ROM slots and extra features than it's a great deal. It's just so-so as a stage piano, as I find that the XF pianos are rather artificial feeling. But as a portable, general, cheap board, it's great. It actually has the same keyboard as a $4000 Montage8.
Yah great keyboard. If they added slider for the layering I would buy it. I dont want to have to press button AND then turn a nob to get access to the volume of the 2nd layer. takes too much time and too slow.
Best demo ive seen for this keyboard yet...and I've tried to watch them all. If anybody has any suggestions i would love to check them out. Dont have a manual...plus i hate manuals anyway. Always hard to understand and not practical for a novice.
Many thanks. Finally found someone playin the MX88 who can rip out those phrasings. Been trying to hear the electric piano and organ for funky edge sounds and playing. All other videos skim over it or don't put that edge into it. Thanks for the overview. Very relatable and love your playing. Cheers.

Lol how is it this guy reviews everything I end up buying!? LOL. Actually its probably the other way around. His demonstrations are so strong that I'm sold on the item after hearing him play it to it's full potential. This one is noteworthy, as most, if not ALL, the other MX88 videos are pretty lame. Well done yet again. Now I just need to save a bit more $$$ for the Novation Peak. I'll be happy with the MX88 and deepmind 12 until then. lol.
I have the F8... it's way more advanced than the MX series and has the full XF sound engine (this is XS based). The F8 also has a memory expansion slot. The MX are still awesome for what they offer though.
For the price I paid for it, it's perfect for what I needed.. at the time, the real Motif XF was much more expensive. I'm looking towards the Montage when prices drop a bit.

Great demo and playing. Sounds like a keeper for a budget 88 weighted keys board. But why do some companies keep putting the pitch/mod wheels sooooo far away, especially on an 88 key? Gotta have Orangutang arms!
but.. why not include the FM sounds in the keyboard? Instead you gotta have your phone chillin on the keyboard or a music stand with you. It's a cool app and all, but would it have been that hard to just integrate it within the board?

Amir I own one and the key action is not super heavy or super light. But it is a great board, you’d have to try one for yourself. Great deal tho for the price and 30lbs tho.
Amir I had a Kurzweil sp88 and my Yamaha mx88 action is heavier. But I haven’t tried the Sp6. But the reason I love Yamaha is because the action is good but the sounds are also good. And I don’t have to worry about my sounds cutting through the mix. I hope you find what’s best for YOU. 😀
I don't think so. They have 2 pedal inputs. One for sustain (half pedaling probably has to be assigned through settings or something, not sure of that) and one for the foot controller (volume, expression)

なんて思っていたのですが、実際にこのように「鍵盤が違う事での表現力の違い」をデモされると、むしろ
「61と88で共通のデータが使える」とか
「自宅で88のタッチで仕込んで、外で61に持って行く」とか、同じモノを２つ持つ事も「無駄」どころか「互換性ばっちり」「使い方知ってる」に意識が変わってしまいました。

The sounds on this keyboard sounds better than the newer models. The organ is very realistic. Fantastic playing of course by a master musician.
That’s cause it’s the motif and we all know how wonderful that keyboard is. The Mx series holds the sounds from the Motif ES.

Yes. The earlier MX boards only had the XS sounds, but the MX88 was upgraded to include the XF soundset. Read the Keyboard Magazine review.

Amir I own one and the key action is not super heavy or super light. But it is a great board, you’d have to try one for yourself. Great deal tho for the price and 30lbs tho.

Amir I had a Kurzweil sp88 and my Yamaha mx88 action is heavier. But I haven’t tried the Sp6. But the reason I love Yamaha is because the action is good but the sounds are also good. And I don’t have to worry about my sounds cutting through the mix. I hope you find what’s best for YOU. 😀

This synth is compatible with triple pedal as digital pianos?
I don't think so. They have 2 pedal inputs. One for sustain (half pedaling probably has to be assigned through settings or something, not sure of that) and one for the foot controller (volume, expression)
