I remember seeing this live on TV when I was 7. It was my favorite part of the show but usually, my dad couldn't stand the musical acts. However, he always enjoyed anything Cox related. I remember him bopping his head to this and eating ice cream.
@@hardnewstakenharder Ok, the Movie is from 2007 so I can't stand behind my math,. Just watched this Movie free on Peacock last night! It was funny when Pa Cox cut himself in 2 as well! Although Dewey's father appreciates his courage, he decides the only way to settle their disagreement is to fight to the death with machetes. He says, "The Right Kid is Going to Die Today!" However, Pa accidentally cuts himself in half. Just before he dies, the senior Cox - realizing how easy it is for someone to accidentally be cut in half with a machete - forgives Dewey, and tells him to be a better father than he was! His last words, "Dewey I love..." Dewey yells, "You love what?!"
How have I never seen this movie before? This is my kind of humor! I totally lost it when he mimicked riding the horse while singing "I need a volunteer to ride up" 😂
The irony is that this movie was supposed to parody/spoof music of the era, but ended just being a tribute, because this isn't any sillier than it was in the 70s
It wasn't silly in the 70s either. Do you think people in the 70s were sillier by some biological miracle? They just had a different taste. 2050 might look into 2021 and see it as silly too.
You mean hen men were men, and didn’t wear shorts that go to their ankles, and wear white T shirt under an open collar shirt, as if they are going to pre-school?
@@silverstar4289 Yeah sure, the 70s really men were men, when a guy wearing daisy duke short so short it's scandalous and midriff, and nobody bats an eye. Don't be silly.
Pa Cox : You're not half the boy Nate was. You're not even half the boy that the top half of Nate was after you cut him in half. Dewey - Age 8 : So you're saying I'm less than a quarter of the boy Nate was?
The Ultimate Reductionist. not that ive ever seen and i own special edition dvd from when it was released. today is my first time seeing. gotta love it
Seen this movie as a young teenager, me and my brother were the only people in the theater while my mom and dad seen the mist.most. my dad came to check on us and the scene where they were all naked was on and before he got to our seats he yelled "what the hell are you guys watching!" Made the movie so much better
The original version of this song is outright comical as it is. It’s a dude wailing “Come back and make me your WIIIIIFE!” at the top of his lungs for 3 minutes.
The marching band came down along Main Street The soldier blues fell in behind I looked across and there I saw Billy Waiting to go and join the line And with her head upon his shoulder His young and lovely fiancee From where I stood I saw she was crying And through her tears I heard her say Billy, don't be a hero, don't be a fool with your life Billy, don't be a hero, come back and make me your wife And as he started to go she said, Billy, keep your head low Billy, don't be a hero, come back to me The soldier blues were trapped on a hillside The battle raging all around The sergeant cried, "We've got to hang on, boys! We've got to hold this piece of ground" I need a volunteer to ride up And bring us back some extra men And Billy's hand was up in a moment Forgetting all the words she said She said Billy, don't be a hero, don't be a fool with your life Billy, don't be a hero, come back and make me your wife And as he started to go she said, Billy, keep your head low Billy, don't be a hero, come back to me I heard his fiancee got a letter That told how Billy died that day The letter said that he was a hero She should be proud he died that way I heard she threw that letter away

And that's the hilarious part. Look at what Dewey does when he sings "she threw the letter away". It's the most crueling move a woman would ever do in this sort of situation. No woman would - it's as you said, the choreographer had no idea what the song was actually about.
I like Reilly's vocals on the song a lot more than I do on the Paper Lace or Bo Donaldson version, but I could do without the synths. If I could get these vocals on top of the music track from the Paper Lace version, I think it would be the greatest version of this song. Still better than "The Night Chicago Died" either way.
Good on brian for doing this song honouring the Mother of God. For respect of his singing that song ( not easy at all )....but the eejits in the audience who laughed & babbled while that sing was being played what palliochi
I had Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods' single of this song when I was a kid. Their stage costumes were somewhat less ridiculous than John C. Reilly and the dancers, but much more ridiculous than the band's.
They couldn't make up a "good bad" song from the '70s worse than the real ones that were on AM radio so they didn't even bother. So many possibilities they could have used. Actually John has a decent voice, but I heard that his singing in the movie was dubbed by a better singer; if this particular song is his voice, I'm impressed, but I don't believe it is...….sorry.
The entire movie, all of its elements, are pure genius.
I listen to the soundtrack regularly
He did it all without a sense of smell. That's better than blind.
I just realized that’s a ray Charles reference 💀
This movie is basically Forrest Gump meets every music docu/drama/comedy. I absolutely love it.
This version despite being different, is just how it was in the 70's
This movie will forever be my favorite he’s such a talented actor. The fact he sings every song just makes it way better! Dewey Cox
Gosh, we need more Cox.

This was a movie & came out in 2016, so if you were 7 then, you must be 15 now? Dewey Cox is not a real person!

Totally agree. He is such a good singer in my opinion.
HOW MANY FUCKING VIDEOS DID HE MAKE?! I love it, John C. Reilly is a mad genius
Best capture of the 70's vibe.
This is unironically the best version of this song.
Fact
Noooo wayyyyy...you're kidding right ?
worst song ever made good
Absolutely aggree.
Its not a bad version but I prefer Bo Donaldson and The Heywood’s cover over Paper Lace’s version
Can we take a moment to recognize John C Reilly. 1 for his good singing voice. 2. That he was in great shape for his age in the awesome movie.
How have I never seen this movie before? This is my kind of humor! I totally lost it when he mimicked riding the horse while singing "I need a volunteer to ride up" 😂
Warning: If you watch Walk Hard, you'll never be able to watch another biopic without snickering.
A shame more people haven't heard this version...

you should hear the songs he wrote with Dirk Diggler
ya u got to have the uncut unrated version
most broadway actors are
and you should have spent more money and got the good version it wasnt cut out in there

Bruh I love all his songs in this movie idk why .... It's not a spoof cuz I've seen 70s videos and this is spot on
I'm legit impressed the girls are dancing in those platforms
Best version of this song.
The shoot "Dewey Cox Band'" is an underrated as a staff, record label, and a crew.
And if you ain't down with DCB then phuk you too!
I am proud to say I paid to see this awesome movie in the theater.
Clearly, they must have put this on the Extras on the dvd.

i like songs crafted by 45 degree angles personally but the 90 degree ones are nice too
thats a good angle
@@uploaded113redone In my opinion this movie is all 90 degree angles: because they're all right.
Absolutely brilliant. John C. Riley is way up there , in my estimation.

I heard his fiancee got a letter
That told how Billy died that day
The letter said that he was a hero
She should be proud he died that way
I heard she threw that letter away
"Dewey died 3 minutes after this performance. "🤣
This reminds me very much of a Sacha Distel TV special when he sang "Baby Star." You can see it on UA-cam.
Wow, very much the same! And he hits gold again with "Baby Sit", a French version of "Beach Baby".

Edmund Fitzgerald doesn't belong on your list.
61Benster not to mock the guys that died on the Fitzgerald but the song is cheesy AF.
Yeah most of the songs in this movie could legitimately have been real pop songs of their era. That's part of why it's so funny.
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is a great timeless song and is better than any of the garbage that passes for music today.
Why does this remind me of a Ninja Sex Party music video?
Dewey and Danny might be kindred spirits.
