I completly forgot to link our discord server / Discord server link: discord.gg/ruWbgzcDxN I will include it on the description of the videos from now on! But I wanted to let a pin comment here for the people who didn't find a link of it, we do have one, is an art sharing community, and I do notifications of livestreams and new video releases!
Im 5 months in on my journey, and.. it has been a lot of ups and downs. Rollarcoaster basically. I loved art and I wanted to try to draw everyday to improve. Sometimes I can go overboard and neglect meals and hydration to study and practice which burnt me out. I came across some japanese artists on twitter that really inspired me, I was going through depression or anxiety (still am) and looking at those art really helped battle through it. I decided i wanted to draw something like that too to express my pain.
I relate a lot, I started art when I was on a bad place in mind, Art helps with distress and other things, but please don't push to the point of unhealth I understand sometimes it doesn't feel like much of a choice, but when you have moments of clarity please treat yourself well, adding to the stress of unhealth can make you dig into a bad state of mind But a 5 month streak is crazy, I hope you can keep up the journey but also, as comforting as art can be, try to seek some guidance on the other things you are going through, thank you so much for sharing this personal view of whats happening, I wish you the best for the future, never stop looking forward
5 MONTH STREAK IS AMAZING. You shouldn't beat yourself up for that, keep it going. I swear if you keep it up you're going to go somewhere in a year! Gebs is right though, you should take care of yourself. This advice is from Proko, he said that its important to have a healthy lifestyle like good sleep, hydrated and getting a great diet once in a while. I'm not saying that your art wouldn't be good if you dont have a healthy lifestyle, Im saying that you wouldn't be really effective when you're doing art. We don't want to be dehydrated and not getting sleep and draw with low energy don't we? Good luck fellow artist! I wish you the best! 💚
2 years ago I drew every day for almost a year, I can 100% advocate that yes it does work, I improved so much, it launched me into my art journey today.
As someone who is literally incapable of building habits, I can see how this could be difficult for many. I personally just try to do something small and set an alarm for myself to remind me. Whether it be drawing on a school paper or making a coloured illustration, it's still art and it still counts!
I agree with this! and like I mentioned on the vid, it really is very different for everyone, we all have our pace, anything even if it seems small feeds the habit so on the major scale, whenever you can remind your self, is great progress! is very smart too to use alarms if you easily forget, not only for art but for many other things, is great advice thank you for sharing!
I never thought of the ‘draw everyday’ thing as reasonable but this made it more feasible & makes me wanna try it out for next year! I’ve been slowly improving but there’s still days I can’t bother to pick up a pencil
Daw thats great that you want to give it a go, between not doing it and failing to do it, by failing, you started and did something and improved so, you have only things to gain by only trying, even if it gets harder, is only for fun so dont put too much pressure, but is exciting to hear if you are going to give it a go! I wish you the best of luck
@@Gebs-Art thanks so much! I try to not be so negative on myself when art doesn’t go the way I want but it’s hard. I really appreciate you giving your perspective. I’ll try to view failures as things that help me learn, being positive can be hard but I wanna try my best!
@@Twistedsleep it can be hard that is true, but trying is more that what most people do, so maybe thats all it takes, getting into a nice mindset while you doing it, have fun and good luck!
The best tip I have to improve quickly if you’re already an artist… just get super hyperfixated on a character. Drawing them an absurd amount of times from just standing or in a scene makes you improve so fast without even noticing 😭😭 it’s always so fun to see your first drawing of the character compared to your 200th
is an interesting tip you shared, I think, for my experience, drawing comics is very similar to what you said, drawing the same character many times in different ways, it helps practice consistency for sure, also it might help art block a little bit having a character to fall back when you dont know what to create, thank you for sharing this tip
no literally you’re so right 😭 like for me i draw them so much that i end up trying out complex perspectives and environments because i’m like ‘i want to draw something NEW but it HAS to be the SAME CHARACTER 🤩🤩🤩’ it’s so funny
I've been on a 100+ day drawing streak now. It can be one of the hardest things to do, but having even another hobby and good habit is one of the best ways to improve your life. Just think day-by-day, don't think about the future, and just focus what you want/need to do today.
Completely agreed with you there, keeping up a streak and consistency can teach a form of self discipline that will 100% help anyone improve at any skill Congratulations on the +100 days, is an amazing streak to have and keep strong
Drawing every day works for some people. I used to draw every day for years, and i just ended up drawing the same things over and over and never trying anything challenging. I draw whenever i feel the inspiration and my art has improved so much quicker these last few years. In my experience, its more effective to seek and destroy the gaps in your skillset when you find them than just draw every day. Good video tho :)
Thank you for sharing! I did mentioned on the video, is not only about drawing every day and that's it, if one is constantly bad, that will lead to no where, we do need to apply other things like the other points I made, i do agree with you it is about seeking information but on it basis what I said still holds for pretty much everyone, but yeah obviously is not the only one thing you should do .. I'm glad to hear you did not give up on it and now you have improved a lot! And again thank you for sharing your experience
I draw all the time, and all of this really is key. Just today I drew two characters in around an hour, each taking half an hour. I have been drawing ever since I knew how (many years) I show people my drawing, sketches, and doodles and they ask, "How did you do that?" and I tell them seven years of practice, they get supprised everytime. I even have a hand disability that I got around 3 years ago and I thought while I was sitting in my hospital bed, "I'll never be able to draw again." but I still do draw to this day it just took more practice while and after I got out of the hospital.
Your story is so inspiring! Im very happy that you pushed through the mentality of pessimism and remain doing what you love, im very happy for you and i applaud your hard work! Thank you for sharing!
I love the pace of both videos and the lesson in them. The most given advice any artist (or any hobby for that matter) is practice everyday. As you said building a habit is the key to improve.
Yeah I’m already on this beginning stuff but I also recommend at the start to use sticky notes or a mini sketch pad then you can extend to other stuff (also don’t burn yourself out & school is more important than you realize)
Agreed, school is indeed important, i did mentioned having a sketchbook is a good thing to try, it doesn't have to be a sketchbook but some place to keep the art you do, I used to have a pile of print paper and that was my "sketchbook"
drawing daily is like fast forward time and you end up with so many drawings, is nice to look back after completing a huge streak and see the improvement!
I definitely noticed my art improving a lot because I started being more consistent due to youtube. Also literally almost broke my streak with one of my daily drawings (I'm doing 100 machine drawings. Only on day 8 now. 1 a day, because I do other daily art practises as well), but did it anyway. I usually force myself to do 15 minutes or so and by the time the 15 minutes are over, I'm in the mood to continue.
That sounds like a good system, i worry a bit that drawing multiple things a day might lead to some burnout, as long as one of the things is drawn in the day that is proceed, but if you are having fun with it and not pushing your self too much then that's wonderful, I admire your dedication!
@@Gebs-Art Thanks! Already got burned out during college though, so I am definitely monitoring my stress levels and making sure I'm not overdoing it. And once I've done my 100 machines, I'll downgrade that to be a weekly task.
One of the best art advice videos I've watched! Sometimes I'm in the game and sometimes I just leave or stare at my sketchbook. Shocking how I have days where I draw constantly and sometimes it's slow. Great video!
Thank you so much! is good not to push yourself too much but if you got encouragement to keep going that's amazing and I wish you all the best on keeping up the grind!
wow! i did not know i needed this realization.. starting is the hardest part for me but yeah building the habit can be rough at the start.. always love your vids man! thanks gebbu!!
Such a great way to express the good habits and healthy pushing to build up improvement! This video turned out lovely gebs thank you for sharing the thoughts~! 💚💜
Thank you Galli! it definitely can be applied to other context, with art specifically repetition can help a lot but is not necessarily the case for every skill that one wants to improve on
couldn't agree more, mental health is health and needs to have a high priority, we all have our pace and we need to find that balance instead of pushing beyond health, thank you for your comment
I love art, and I am an active member of the irl art community. My biggest struggle though, would be the fact that no matter what, I can’t stick with a drawing. This video gave me a lot of confidence though, and I want to learn more. Thank you for the motivation.❤
That's amazing! Traditional art is so beautiful Maybe when possible, try to decrease the goal, make it something you know you can finish, if you really want to start finishing things I mean Lowering the goals until you can fulfill them again, then you build up from there I wish you all the luck and that you have fun
I used to have a lot of envy and pain knowing techniques of practice and just not having that speed yet. But being able to keep moving forward has worked like a form of self-therapy and now I feel excited to hear how much I have to do!
Ok here's the way i practice I draw EVERY SINGLE DAY,i threw away the logic of "motivation" and adopted the logic of "discipline". I improved a lot in a year,i started practicing on febuary if im not mistaken,i still have a lot to learn and i still have a lot of bad habits that im looking foward to break, and i stoped comparing myself to others, comparing yourself is a progress killer. I only compare myself from a few months ago,it really comforted me that knowing that everyone started just like me(maybe a little younger)but still, everyone starts somewhere. This was a great video and it made me wanna draw even more >:) Hope you're proud of me!
Thats great! I would say, self discipline is a really powerful thing to have, for any skill, so also be disciplined to hold your self when you push too much too, since that can lead to burnout, but if you are enjoying the process, you will skyrocket on your skill!
bro i though you were like at 200k subs or something, then i looked and ONLY 300?!!?!?! The amount of work and passion your videos have deserve so much love, you explained everything so well and encouraged me to keep the streak up, thanks bro you a legend, keep it up!
You are very sweet omg I hear this a bit now and im mind blown for all the support i been receiving, it really means a lot and encourages me to keep going!
this video helped me so much. For a while ive been like what now. ive tried all the tutorials and how tos, but just cant seem to get any bette, but this helped me improve my art tremendously. literally in a week i went from kindergarten level art to art that is way better. in the discord chat i will put the before progress and after progress, and of course its still a work in progress getting a little better every day because of the things in this video. thank you.
Thank youfor the advice of having a goal! I draw constantly all the time and i already improve every month and i definatly try to make 1000 drawings next year
Tysm for this video it has truley inspired me to be way more committed! Art has always been a way i express myself and makes me happy but i have always felt like why am i not improving and why can't i get myself to draw even though i really want to but i just don't know what to draw or my motivation just isn't there. But now this has really changed how i felt and i hope to improve and draw way more then i usually do :D
Daw I'm happy it could bring a brother light into how you see it, art is an expression so it really changes depending on the person, how difficult it is and how unique it can look, so all our paths are different, we just need to find the more suiting way to go about it... I'm sure you will do amazingly! Best of luck on your journey!
I draw every day because it’s literally a need for me. If I stop drawing my quality of life and mental health gets worse. It’s one of my primary methods of self expression, exploring my psychology, communicating with my alters, and just generally having a better quality of life. It doesn’t even matter what I draw or what it looks like it just needs to capture the feeling and thoughts that I needed to get out of my body right then.
I started for similar reasons, a lot of bad things were going in and I was in a bad place, art was pretty much everything I had at the time, i really hope the best for you and that you can push forward on the difficulties that you have in life, stay strong
Hi! I just started my journey around this week. I made some funny stick figure people, and I keep drawing them doing silly things and poses for now. One day, I hope to become a KING at character design and backgrounds! I'm actually doing that! So far, I've made around 3-10 sketch sheets per day, cause I'm really excited and can't wait to improve at my art. From stuff that looks like it's made by a 6 year old in 12 seconds to an original, wacky, and colorful artstyle, that's my dream hehe
I've always struggled to keep my motivation to drawing everyday, I've tried to do it many times, but I'm kind of just the type who sets a goal but doesn't do it, but I feel like this video really made me very motivated to do so, and would be a very good new year's resolution, I would honestly like to thank you for that, because I don't think I would feel this inspired and motivated to do so if I never seen this video!
daw, thank you so much, I would definitely encourage you to maybe try to draw along side others with similar goals, either in the community or if you have a friend, doing things together makes it so much more fun and encourages us to keep going! Im sure you will do great and will go far in this journey!
I completely relate, when i started I was busy but not as busy as i got over the years, work can definitely make the schedule very narrow, but there's always time for a small doodle, what is missing is the energy when we do have the time, so at the end, will power is needed too, I wish you luck in rebuilding the habit!
you know what, i dont think I wanna become better & consistent at drawing anymore if that so. I just cannot rule it out with many other side interests at the same time.
I think this is a great mindset, the video is a "how to improve faster" but that doesn't mean is the only way to improve in general, the best way on this path is the one without the pressure of competition, many people have the constant pressure of being better and better and it can definitely lead to burnout, so please keep doing it for yourself, you have the right mindset Thank you for sharing ❤️
@@Gebs-Art yeah right, I've wrote this comment when was feeling lowkey down tbh; Plus, drawing is the kinda problematically big one interest (by its difficulty & consistency need I mean), when you already having too many of side interests. Just feels like drawing, like a hobbie, doesn't reward as much as my others - although it's still interesting. ❤
3 years is an incredible time to be consistent at it, even if is not daily, drawing daily is to reinforce the habit so drawing is less of a homework and more of a natural thing, Im sure your art is great and it will get better the more you do it! Studies and research are very important, so is experimenting too, thank you for sharing!
I just restarted to draw again after 6 months of not touching any of my art equipment. Its my 6th day and i having fun by just sketching stuff. Good advice in this video. However, i met with peopke who said "impossible to draw everyday and becomes depressed"
Im happy to hear you came back to it stronger and having fun now! it really is difficult to find the drive once the drive is gone, but we need to remember why we started on the first place, I hope the best for you and keep going! im sure youll have a great time if you focus on having fun and not the product it self!
Gartic phone is definetly a great way to improve. You draw as quickly as you can while having the same topic and if just gets fun when you with people because once it ends its so sillyto see the end results.
That's a rally fun idea, if you have friends to draw/play with, it can make drawing smaller things more fun, and it takes the pressure out since you are playing a game
this applies to more than just drawing! it applies to all creative hobbies, such as music. it even applies to other things such as going to the gym! get that habit and commitment built first, 5 minutes every day, then increase as you go. make it natural.
You are absolutely right, it can apply to practices that can be overwhelming and hard to approach, making them easier to digest without sacrificing doing them completely, start as small as you see fit, thank you for sharing this perspective
it takes me a very long time to draw just one full drawing, ive been drawing for almost two years and ive made tons of progress but i feel like i couldve made more if i just drew faster, hopefully this helps! starting tomorrow
what you say is very true, drawing full illustrations takes a longtime, the more one improves the one gets more comfortable too wich can lead to drawing faster, since drawing confidently saves a lot of time, overall is all about the habit, if you are working on the same piece, 2,3 or more days in a row, you are still drawing daily so that still counts! what would be the problem would be if you are stuck in a single line trying to make it as smooth as possible, since perfectionism can slow us down a lot, overall thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!
I love learning stuff and improving. two months I could do 15 or so pushups without any breaks. Today I have been doing 50 pushups in a row for about two weeks now. The feeling of being able to reap your reward from putting in hard work really is satisfying. Alongside this, I have been making music for about a 1.5 years and started programing quite recently. And yeah, pushing yourself to learn every. single. day. is so underrated when it comes to learning. The idea that you will get similar results from setting up a goal of say 1000 total pushups in a month to actually saying that every day, regardless of how im feeling, im gonna do this is totally wrong. Nothing beats consistency and routines.
Couldnt agree more, it really is about finding that balance where you can start being consistent and build up from there, is very impressive all the things you achieved!
I've been drawing for years now, but always ended up with long periods between drawings where I just wouldn't draw out of fear of being bad at it. But now that I've finaly realized that I try to aim to draw every day, but to be honest it has been difficult. But with your mindset of making it a streak instead of "draw this many per day" I think it becomes more managable. For anyone out there that doesn't know what to start on, gesture sketching can be a good way to get started! It helps you get faster and understand how poses work. Plus I personally find it very fun to make!
Thank you for sharing, I'm glad that you are aiming to change how things are done, and as long as you are not pushing yourself to the limit, I'm sure you'll find a good balance, i do agree that it can be very hard to achieve and some people have way more obstacles than others, not being alone in the journey can help a lot too, communities or friend groups to do art things together can encourage a lot of the ones in the circle, you are doing amazingly, keep it up and stay strong!
@@Gebs-Art thank you! Gosh your kind words mean a lot haha My friends who are further in the art journey than I am are enouraging me on. So we'll see where stuff goes from here.
Thank you swirly! I never made a video pass 1k so this is crazy (without counting that music one) I'm very grateful for all the nice people interacting with the video is been such mind-blowing and heartwarming
Congrats on the 3 months and going strong! Im glad you can see the improvement too, also references on any level is great, is good to not rely fully on them, but they are eventually needed to learn new things or more complex stuff, but that might come again with time, thank you for sharing!
what the video didnt say you dont have to do a full blown finished thing. just sketch out a pose , or few practices ,drawings squares, hands(which are just bending boxes), circles wiggly line points(persepective practices with limb). ref 4 poses. boom you can use this for actual drawings that day or stop for that day. you dont have to number them your phone gallery can do that for you.
First of all, I just want to say what a good video this is gebs, I think all these tips you listed are great and together can build a crazy strong foundation for those who are looking to improve their work. Honestly I'd love to have a sketchbook again, I used to sketch something everyday for a warmup and compile it into a huge collage, it was fun! When it comes to references I’m always in the mindset of “I can always use more”, not to strictly copy but to have a collection of stuff to take information from as I draw is such a useful tool and really can give drawings that extra “oomph” …for a lack of a better word LMAO You mentioning the 1000 drawings a year vs "take as long as you want" really made me think of the word "mileage". Which in the context of art I’d just define it as "drawing a shit ton" LOL Getting all that art mileage in can really help with improvement and forming consistency. The tip of drawing a lot might be like “duh well yeah of course” but it’s really needed no matter if you have innate talent or not! Plus at its core like you said, art should be fun!! The idea of building a habit overall is really interesting for me cause I don’t exactly think back on my earlier days of drawing as something I had to establish a habit with? I find I’m really the type to just JUMP into things(for one reason or another) and fall in love with it so fast. I’ve actually experienced this with all my current hobbies and while improvement was always on my mind, I think the idea of being able to express something in a creative way and it being this FUN made it feel like I always had that switch but it was just... always on. Since I was extremely closeted and shy as a kid, art gave me this way to be able to express myself without words and it was such a needed outlet for me and still is to this day. Every free moment became time for me to create, even when I was EXTREMELY busy with portfolio work I still found the time to do personal art as well. And in current day I always find myself going back to it after all these 10 years. I’ve experienced many stagnations with my improvement and hiccups with my feelings about art overall but that “foundation” for just loving art as much as I do cemented that I’m always going to be doing it and that I’m always hungry for improvement. Honestly hadn’t thought about how I’d gotten in to art for a while and this just makes me all the more motivated, thanks for such a great video gebs!!
Thank you so much ling! it is fun to have a sketchbook, i did started one on September but didnt stick with it as much, i really would love to get back to it again I think having a lot of references is good when one is studying, but for fun or personal stuff i think keeping it limited might even help muscle memory and creativity flow more freely, but definitely both are important to improve, use them as tools not to fully rely on them Also yeah is drawing a lot sounds like an obvious thing but most people miss the point of doing so, i think the point is more related to consistency more than actually drawing that much, since building the habit is very important you dont have to do it daily to make a habit of it, so even if you didnt drew daily, you drew often, so its a habit on its own, just not as consistent, also theres ups and downs about drawing when you dont want to, thats why i emphasize on minimizing the stress of drawing something big, and start small instead, until its incorporated in within you Also when someone has many ways to express themselves, drawing, music, dancing, etc, it becomes more fun to be creative but it minimizes the quantity of each medium that is used, not saying is a bad thing, actually is amazing, is just harder to balance for most people, so usually people stick with one and focus on it, some people are great at multitasking, some people are awful Overall im happy you could do a trip to your motivations and remember how it went and how is going, is nice to look back when you want to see how much things changed if you are trying to improve Hoping to see more of your work in the future
The best improvement I ever got was making 2 pages of a webcomic every week for 3 years The things it forced me to learn, like composition and posing, helped me out so much more than drawing randomly without a schedule or purpose ever did
I also worked on a webcomic and helped me get much better at expressions and consistency, i do think is a fun thing to try, glad you committed for 3 years that'd very impressive
Have you ever considered letting go of all the pressure to perform as an artist and see your art for what it can be instead of what it is? If you simply draw everyday you will get to that place where you improve naturally. To me that is the only thing I focus on: Enjoying the practice not the outcome. I think the advice in this video is great and you can still use it in your own pace. You don’t need to improve fast. Just be grateful you get to practice art.
I agree with you, my intention is not to make it seem like every single person has to do this or they won't go anywhere, this is more meant for the people who are more serious about commiting to it or struggle to even keep or see improvement... Because what you say sounds beautiful, a lot of cases, procrastination can literally kill the will of doing it.. doing it less and less because you don't feel like doing it, until you look back and you only drew once 2 years ago So again, if you already have a good pace, don't push yourself too much and enjoy what you have Thank you for sharing!
I hear this "draw every day" tip so much, and let me bring up a counterpoint: Lack of motivation, I've tried everything I can to get motivated to draw, but I just can't, so my art's gonna be shit forever
I agree, is not a counterpoint because there's so much more to it, only drawing daily won't help unless you do more, drawing daily is not to get better but to build up the habit, and that's what we want to get to improve more.. you still have to experiment and do studies and other stuff that adjust better to you, I mentioned those in the video, there's not a secret formula that will make us better instantly, so trying new things and experimenting is very important.. I wish you all the best and good luck on this journey, it can be very difficult to find what works for each person
No, nobody needs to improve faster, yall gotta take your time with this stuff because its really worth it. take it casual, take it slow, and with each drawing you will slowly improve in a sector of art.
I agree with you, no one should force themselves to draw, and this video is not a "how to force yourself to draw" that will lead to burnout Going at ones pace is all it's needed to enjoy it This video however addresses other points about improvement and is addressed to the people who are more serious about art, many people here wants to make it their job, and we need to learn the things I talked about to be able to make it not drive us insane when we are working as an artist.. or just being serious about improving our skills Also for me and others art was a way of distress and we found comfort In Doing it multiple times a day every day, and it helped us going through things.. I'm not saying what you say is wrong, it definitely applies differently depending on the person and the situation But again, this is a tips video, not a "must do or you'll be bad" you can still be great going slow, that's not what the video is about I do want to talk about burnout and other similar topic in the future Thank you for sharing your side
I can say i have an art style but honestly i dont rlly like it. I've been seeing lots of videos these weeks, collecting inspiration from pinterest and so. I've never had an actual habit I wanted to have, because its easy for me to forget things and so on. But with those videos and yours its like pushing me to have it, Although drawing everyday sounds easy it is not and i know that. So i will and try to keep up drawing everyday from now on. Its my last week on school before recess (vacations), so I'll keep doing at least one draw in 1day, your videos inspired me much and i think im ready to do that. With this video i'll try to follow all your steps you mentioned here. If i get better at drawing, tysm for doing this!❤
something i noticed is that you can make your art style, but i think the best way is to let the art style made itself as we keep going and focusing on increasing our skill and trying out new things, we might be missing out things we might absolutely love doing but we never tried for fear of it "not being fun" or something like that, im sure you are doing wonderfully and as long as you remember the positive parts of why you enjoy doing art, you will improve a lot and exceed your own expectations, even if the progress seems slow for a bit, it will snowball Also as long as you dont push too much trying drawing daily can help a lot, just remember that it doesnt have to be perfect or great or even decent, just needs to be there so you build that habit up, even a small 20 sec doodle is more than enough if that day you are not feeling like drawing Hope you can remain strong and I wish you the best of luck on your journey!
Ive always been into art since i was like 5, but i really started taking it seriously in late 2019. Then the quarantines happened, and i had so much free time, I filled 4 sketchbooks in 1 and a half year, and i improved like 60% of the way of where i am now. After schools opened up again though, and i started highschool, i quickly declined and hit the intermediate plateau. I realise im still very much improving. But I feel stuck and hate myself for not drawing more. If i drew as much these last 2 years as i did in 2020-2021 id be amazing now... What do you think? It's artist's journeys like yours that keep me going.
That is amazing improvement! and i do relate to the reasons we started, to me was distress, it really helped me going through some stuff at the time, I think if anything, it seems like overtime you shifted the reasons you started, from wanting to do it because of how it made you feel, to wanting to draw good stuff, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to draw great things, but when you push yourself down when you don't "achieve" that perfection then it makes you feel bad, i think this a perfectionist mindset and a lot of people go through it so i would say, trying to remember why you started and why you like doing it is important beyond the thought of "i want to draw good" but why we want that right? we do like art, we just need to remember or find out why we like it so much Also experiment and trying new things might help too, finding new things you enjoy or re sparking that feeling you had that made you commit so much to it at first I think these are topics that i want to talk about more on videos, burnout, motivation, and related topics, it can be a difficult path, also being part of communities, like having art friends to share with can make so much wonders to the mentality, unless you are the jealous type, but you said is journeys like mine that kept you going so i don't think you are, quite the opposite, so keep it up! I believe you can find the place you are comfortable with and see the improvement again! Thank you so much for sharing your struggles
@@Gebs-Art thank you so much for your deep response! The reason I'm doing art is so I can share stories and spread messages. My dream is to become a published mangaka. Right now I'm finishing the storyboards for my first oneshot, and I'll probably also get a friend of mine to help me with some bg's. I also have a much bigger story in mind, which I'm keeping until I become good enough to do it justice. Western mangaka such as DDmarkk for example are a huge inspiration for me, and since art is the only thing that fulfills me as a person I WILL get there.
Thats so amazing! definitely now day and age is much more accessible to have dreams like that, where a few years back it seemed impossible, I wish you all the luck and that you find success in your dreams!
im about two years into my adventure as an artist and I will say I have not made as much progress as you. Im dedicated but to me it really hard for me to keep motivation without getting burnt out due to things such as school and having to leave a lot due to family issues. Do you have any suggestions or advice when it comes to burnout and low motivation?
I completely understand, to me art was to distress from life burnout, so is kind of like the opposite, I didn't got burnt from art but art was pretty much all i had back then, it really is different from person to person, but with art burnout and motivation, i would really love to elaborate more in a video in the future, there's so much to say about it In the meantime I can say a couple things that hopefully resonates with you, when it comes to art we need to stop focusing on what the product is and more about the process and why we like doing this, we choose to do art for a reason, we all drew as kids but most people stopped over time and don't care for it, we choose to keep doing it, or come back to it after awhile, why? maybe trying to remember the core reason you do this might help you enjoy the process more Also 100% don't push yourself too much if you already have many stresses in life, if that the case, doodling and keeping it at minimum might help getting started again, start small again and see how you feel from there, it doesn't have to be daily even, or weekly, we will find our pace as long as we keep seeking the information and help we need I wish you all the best in this journey and that you can find joy on it again
hello Art dad!! I wanted to ask you something, I want to go traditional but digital art seems so much easier but it’s so awkward when I draw it and it never feels right when I draw something digitally……so do I stick to what I like (traditional) or do I push myself to transition into digital art??? Much love Art Dad!!
I would say depending on your ambitions it can be beneficial either side... If this is mainly for fun and to only express yourself, then stick with what's more comfortable for you If you want to be a professional one day, traditional has a market but digital has way more opportunities when it comes to the flexibility Both can be hard, there's pros and cons on both sides definitely so you need proper time and effort to be good at either one So stick with what you love! And best of luck on your journey
I agree, but that only if you do large things and fixate on making things "perfect" or too big, starting small can be easier and not overwhelming, also not focusing on making something good and rather enjoy the process, most people don't get burnout of games and stuff like that, is about enjoying it and getting that habit going, so yeah I agree with you on the side of, if you push your self you will burnout like crazy, so everyone has their own pace, this video is more for the people who are more serious about stepping up their skill and are more serious about art, many people here wants to make it their career Thank you for the comment, burnout is definitely something i would love to talk about more in the future
I agree, thats why i mentioned in the video, that starting as small as you can allow yourself to draw, since the skill will come in time, we focus on building the habit first! Also yeah time is something that has to be in consideration, for people who work or go to school or have other responsibilities Is nice that you can give your self some time to draw, even if is a little bit when is possible
Hey, i'm putting *ALOT* into my artworks, and its still ass... all tho i did massivly increase in art style and skill, its still very bad. i dont have motivation, but i have alot of confidence to do art daily. BUT THATS MY PROBLEM, i don't have the motivation to., i really hope i get motivation, and gain alot of skill, talent, etc etc. im so good at online art, mobile ofc... krita PC (or clip studio PC idk) i really hope your video helps me in the future with tips, and such. love your channel! im gonna sub now :D
Thank you so much for sharing! I'm glad you like the video I'm making, i would definitely love to make a video covering motivation, art block and similar topics Also I want to do Livestreams covering the topics we talked about but in depth I appreciate you look forward to it, means a lot Also there's so many methods and strategies to go about improvement, experimenting is very important and getting out of the comfort zone to learn new things, even if they are not related to the things we are mainly interested in drawing One skill helps grow the other, but yeah there's a lot to say about it and I'd love to elaborate more in the future Thank you again, and I really hope for the best for you and your journey
I have a personal question mr.Gebs. If I have a project/piece that is large, does putting work(drawing) in the large project be counted as an objective same as to draw anything a day and be beneficial same way in progressing?
Absolutely, the idea of drawing daily is to build up the habit, so as long as you are working on something daily you are practicing and improving, keep it up and best of luck!
That's completely fine, daily drawing maximizes the practice and helps with building the habit but the point would be to make a streak, so adjust to how much you can do, and stick with that schedule, as long as you can keep it up you will still improve
in my art when i try to draw a character i draw the draft first and try to see what i like and what i dislike, the parts i dislikes i draw it in another paper and try to draw different stuff until i get all the parts i like before start making the character real
ohh i never thought of that method, sounds fun when you like a more in depth approach, i love that, i love working with backgrounds and stuff like that so, diving it also makes it more easy to digest since it wouldn't be like a whole piece full of things to work on, it might make it easier for some, definitely something to try!
I'm really suck at doing tasks that are made to "do this everyday and fight to get better" and I hate that. Most of the days this year was me talking that I wanted to change, study, reais, draw, but I did nothing of It and It makes me so angry. And the things is, IS HARD. This tasks needs alot of work to do and the though of It coming to my mind makes It even harder to commit do those things. The fact that I have bad habits, terrible with being consistent, fear of mistake and only want to have fun makes the things for me really Impossible. I Hope on this vacation I start My change and reach My dreams.
It is hard you are absolutely right, I talked a bit more in depth on my perfectionism video, but there's so many factors that can easily push us down to get stuck, if jealousy is not a thing in your case I do recommend finding people to work alongside with, making it something to do with friends or similar people to you can both make it so much more fun and also gives you that push to do things and work on stuff.. overall I know that a lot is related to what we are going through in our lives so don't push your self too much, but if you can push to start and find the reasons to enjoy the process I know it'll get better I wish you the best of luck and that you find a comfortable place to be in
absolutely! everyone has their own pace, so a weekly schedule still is being consistent and it will snowball at the end, go as you see comfortable without pushing too much, wish you the best of luck!
Is warm up a must?? Or i can just straight up drawing?? (Especially cuz i have a tight schedule,IM afraid doing a warm up Will shorten my time to draw what i actually want...i have a limited time to draw )
Is not a must, mostly a tip, loosen up and having more confidence in the strokes helps a lot but all of the things I said just add up to the overall habit, you can skip as many as you want to make it adjust to what you can do, don't push yourself too much Best of luck
@@Gebs-Art ok!! Thanks man!! Your videos are so inspiring!! They killed my art block and inspired me to make drawing as a daily habit!! IM on my third day streak since i watched your videos!! Sorry if i ask too much question...once again, THANK YOU!!
I've loved to draw since I was little, but I would do it kind of off and on. A little here and there, then I wouldn't touch a pencil for a year or a few months. However, I've been going through a rough patch in my life the past year, and I started drawing again because I needed something positive in my life. So what I did was I got a little $3 pocket sketchbook from Walmart, and I started keeping it in my pocket *all the time*. I also made some rules with myself. 1) I wanted to draw almost every day. 2) It doesn't have to be pretty. Every drawing in my little notebook could be straight ASS, as long as I actually drew in it all the time; and a lot of the drawings in it are total shit that I would never show anyone. There are a few good ones that I'm proud of as well. Lots of little 1 min scribbles that I made while waiting for my food to microwave, maybe I'll add onto it while I'm on break at work; just whatever. 5 minutes absolutely matters. After doing this for about 3 months I have noticed a huge difference in my skills when I go to do a proper illustration, and it's also had a massive positive impact on my mental health.
that's beautiful thank you for sharing, i started art with a similar approach, rough part of life lead me to distress through art but i never consider even the possibility of making it my job, drawing literally any minute free you find requires self discipline so thats very admirable of you to do, also the drawings you are proud of wouldn't be there if it wasnt for what you learn by doing the "bad" ones, we learn with good an bad drawings, so we just gotta keep on going and itll snowball even if the effect is slow at the beginning
Although I love your approach I did that everyday day when i was younger and it made me frustrated tired bored I'm great at drawing now and do push myself but for younger viewers if you don't feel like it just try atleast 3 a week although his will help more you don't wanna hate art and posting art makes me feel better about it and help notice mistakes I suggest trying to post it somewhere just a little ❤ from someone makes your art feel special- anyways enough ranting SEE YA
absolutely, is not about drawing a full illustration each day, pushing your self too much will lead to burnout so i agree that each person has to pace them selves with what they can do without pushing it too much, the point of drawing daily is too build up a habit, not increase the skill, the habit will lead to the skill, but we all have to start in small bites, thank you for sharing!
Sounds very fun to have a art friend to do this things with, it does make it much more fun! im sure you are pushing yourself down and you are improving non the less the more you do it, so just focus on having a good time! Also same, i love drawing hands but man i need practice haha
I took me roughly 1 year to go from completely clueless about light and colours and rendering to actually being quite decent at those But its still NOT enough Still grinding
The more we improve the more we stretch that "final goal" which means you will be better and better non stop as long as you keep going, in glad your improvement shows and you are aware of it! Keep it up!
Oh its funny that this video came out when I only started and didnt took drawing too serious and did only little doodles with my newly bouth tablet and now I am having habbit and watch it. Damn, it would be nice to notive this video back then but I think my stupid head wouldnt understand how good dayly drawing is without feeling skills getting less sharp more time you not using them(I had month or two withour single drawing or with very little to no drawings and starting out after these times were... Hard 😅😅 Drawing daily makes you not loose skill this much and even improove it slowly)
I start 5 years ago and now am better, but I really went to become a comic artist and make my own comics. and as being a 13-year-old and trying to learn it very hard for me because I also really want to make a Vocaloid as well. but it a lot to learn as well learning to be a digital artist as well it a lot for me to do and learn and I also have an overcoming perfectionism. and always trying to make everything I draw perfect but not everything you draw is going to look good. and it's okay if the drawing does not come perfect. it's something I have to learn.
You have so much time ahead of you and I think most artists started at childhood like yourself, give yourself some time, keep improving your skill, have fun with projects and when you look back you'll see the immense amount of improvement, keep it up and I'm sure you will achieve so many things!
I love drawing and making art and want to hopefully make it my job but i always say " I'll start this and start drawing more often" or " Im going to start a schedule to draw" but when i do make these schedules or other things to remind me to draw i don't do it because i ether am playing a game or doing something else or i just don't feel motivated to. It's really annoying and it's made me really sad recently because it's like... i want this to be my career but i cant even bring my self to start trying harder than i am, and i've been in an art block for months. is there anything i can do to actually get motivated to draw or anything? (mb for the long msg i just had to get that of my chest for SOOO LONG)
Art block can be a topic i could elaborate a lot on so i might do a whole video in the future, but as in now, i think is important to put priorities, like when you are free to do what you want, you do whats important first before jumping into playing games or watching stuff like videos/series/etc, looking for inspiration and people on a spot similar to yours can boost the motivation too, that's why being part of art communities can really help in this matter, overall, just try to give it a higher priority and hold your self from doing other things that might take all your free time, a small drawing wont take much so even that is a win if you doodle a quick drawing before playing a game, that's why building a habit is so important at the beginning, it will be less difficult to draw overtime, so do your best, i know you can do it if you commit to it!
There is many ways to go about those barriers, you can still draw everyday even dealing with those, it would be a whole topic but maybe I can talk about art block in the future...even with a job or being a student there's always a way to find the time, i hope this doesn't seem rude to say but is easy to make inconveniences into excuses to not do something.. but again, you can chose not to do this, is not a cheat code to be good, it does require some self discipline.. wish you the best if you ever want to give it a try
There's actually many things to do and try when it comes to always know what to draw, i would love to make a video about it at some point For now I can tell you a couple quickly, drawing for friends or your OCS, if you don't have any, maybe create OCS based on things like food or toys or something like that, working on projects like small comics might help you as well, or a sequence of drawings.. of anything the good ol study can be a great thing to do, get references to study Overall I wish you the best of luck and I hope you have a great time working on things
I have an idea for an awesome action kids show(a kids show that can be enjoyed by kids and adults, ) I want to stand out from most of the adult only content shows on UA-cam, but I'm just one man, I just feel so much stress that I can't do this alone without other people, as well as getting judged for having awful drawing, Is there something I can do? Its also going to be a pilot movie about the 6 heroes, it would begin with the main character meeting the other 5 heroes in the pilot movie, the show would sometimes be action/slice of life.
I think what will help you start, is to start, no matter the quality, no matter how many people worked on it, if you start you'll do it and learn from it, then overtime you can try again if you feel like you need to remake it, but that time you'll have more experience We get better by doing, failing and learning from it Also no one worth having around will judge you if you are aiming to make something that people enjoy People are toxic on the internet for no reason, is important to not let it get to you, you are doing something to help and be enjoyed so have pride on it! Overall don't push yourself too much, break down the project in smaller bits that can be done more easily and just go at your own pace I wish you the best of luck
@@Gebs-Art thanks, I also wanted to know what do you think about my action kids show being far different than most of the adult indie animation shows on UA-cam? as well as the pilot movie?
@@pedrosaabedra5653 Theres an audience for everything, so chase your dreams and work hard on it, I dont have much to say since i dont know much about shows and media in general, so I wish you all the best!
Have you considered making a discord server for the channel? It would be a great way to engage people to commit to draw and even to gamify the process. Saluditos
We actually have a discord, I did not think about linking it haha, I should do that, thank you so much for the comment, I do agree that having an art community is great for sharing progress!
I completly forgot to link our discord server / Discord server link: discord.gg/ruWbgzcDxN
I will include it on the description of the videos from now on!
I relate a lot, I started art when I was on a bad place in mind, Art helps with distress and other things, but please don't push to the point of unhealth
I understand sometimes it doesn't feel like much of a choice, but when you have moments of clarity please treat yourself well, adding to the stress of unhealth can make you dig into a bad state of mind
But a 5 month streak is crazy, I hope you can keep up the journey but also, as comforting as art can be, try to seek some guidance on the other things you are going through, thank you so much for sharing this personal view of whats happening, I wish you the best for the future, never stop looking forward
@@Gebs-Artqqq
That's amazing! Keeping up a streak that long is an achievement on itself and of course how much we improve, but that's great keep it up!
Thank you so much for breaking this down and not just being a huge 30min ad for a 300$ drawing teacher like many of the other videos are
Of course! Im glad you find it helpful
I've been on a 100+ day drawing streak now. It can be one of the hardest things to do, but having even another hobby and good habit is one of the best ways to improve your life. Just think day-by-day, don't think about the future, and just focus what you want/need to do today.
Completely agreed with you there, keeping up a streak and consistency can teach a form of self discipline that will 100% help anyone improve at any skill
Congratulations on the +100 days, is an amazing streak to have and keep strong
I agree so much. Sometimes my best art pieces come right after a huge artblock (which happened because I tried to draw something new).
Thank you very much! And I agree 100% Habits are hard to break so building them is very important early on
Yeah I’m already on this beginning stuff but I also recommend at the start to use sticky notes or a mini sketch pad then you can extend to other stuff (also don’t burn yourself out & school is more important than you realize)
Agreed, school is indeed important, i did mentioned having a sketchbook is a good thing to try, it doesn't have to be a sketchbook but some place to keep the art you do, I used to have a pile of print paper and that was my "sketchbook"
To each their own I guess 🙃
I find this really tip good because when I started drawing everyday I started noticing big changes
drawing daily is like fast forward time and you end up with so many drawings, is nice to look back after completing a huge streak and see the improvement!
@@Gebs-Art Thank you!
wow! i did not know i needed this realization.. starting is the hardest part for me but yeah building the habit can be rough at the start.. always love your vids man! thanks gebbu!!
It can be very difficult, you are right, the important part is to not force yourself and find that balance, I wish you all the luck oleeme!
Such a great way to express the good habits and healthy pushing to build up improvement! This video turned out lovely gebs thank you for sharing the thoughts~! 💚💜
Thank you Galli! it definitely can be applied to other context, with art specifically repetition can help a lot but is not necessarily the case for every skill that one wants to improve on
drawing everyday is somewhat good tip but care about your mental health too! drawing everyday can burnout sometimes
couldn't agree more, mental health is health and needs to have a high priority, we all have our pace and we need to find that balance instead of pushing beyond health, thank you for your comment
I love art, and I am an active member of the irl art community. My biggest struggle though, would be the fact that no matter what, I can’t stick with a drawing. This video gave me a lot of confidence though, and I want to learn more. Thank you for the motivation.❤
That's amazing! Traditional art is so beautiful
Maybe when possible, try to decrease the goal, make it something you know you can finish, if you really want to start finishing things I mean
Lowering the goals until you can fulfill them again, then you build up from there
I wish you all the luck and that you have fun
I used to have a lot of envy and pain knowing techniques of practice and just not having that speed yet. But being able to keep moving forward has worked like a form of self-therapy and now I feel excited to hear how much I have to do!
This is so wonderful, I'm so happy you found the root reason you enjoy the art process and be able to enjoy it agaig
Ok here's the way i practice
I draw EVERY SINGLE DAY,i threw away the logic of "motivation" and adopted the logic of "discipline".
This was a great video and it made me wanna draw even more >:)
Hope you're proud of me!
Thats great! I would say, self discipline is a really powerful thing to have, for any skill, so also be disciplined to hold your self when you push too much too, since that can lead to burnout, but if you are enjoying the process, you will skyrocket on your skill!
@@Gebs-Art i'll keep that in mind, thank you again for making this video, you're helping a lot of people!
bro i though you were like at 200k subs or something, then i looked and ONLY 300?!!?!?! The amount of work and passion your videos have deserve so much love, you explained everything so well and encouraged me to keep the streak up, thanks bro you a legend, keep it up!
agreed
You are very sweet omg I hear this a bit now and im mind blown for all the support i been receiving, it really means a lot and encourages me to keep going!
this video helped me so much. For a while ive been like what now. ive tried all the tutorials and how tos, but just cant seem to get any bette, but this helped me improve my art tremendously. literally in a week i went from kindergarten level art to art that is way better. in the discord chat i will put the before progress and after progress, and of course its still a work in progress getting a little better every day because of the things in this video. thank you.
Underrated channel, should have much more subscribers.
Thats very sweet of you thank you so much!
Thank youfor the advice of having a goal! I draw constantly all the time and i already improve every month and i definatly try to make 1000 drawings next year
That sounds amazing, glad is going this well for you so far, im sure you will get very far and will be proud of how much you did!
@@Gebs-Art Thank you :)
thanks for making this video (it will help) also your voice is so calming.
Ah thank you! Is very sweet of you, I'm glad you enjoyed
That's sweet you find so much enjoyment in doing this, I'm sure you will do amazingly, wishing you all the best
Used to date and time my sketches.
Should get back to doing that.
Is such a small thing that can add so much to the long lasting streak and looking back on it
I swear thou I do love that cartoon art in the thumbnail very much my favorite drawing from you
thank youuu I want to make more colorful and expressive art like this one!
@@Gebs-Art same I like doing the same as well that cartoon girl is so inspiring plus I love the expression is right up on! Fits her so perfectly
Just two years apart is WILD!!! This is really inspiring!
Thank you so much swirly!! definitely could've learned much faster if I knew what I was doing haha
Your advice in your videos has been most helpful. Thanks!
im glad to hear! thank you so much!
Nice video.
I use to draw everyday simce I had the time now I kinda forgot the habit thanks to work and life, thanks for the reminder.
I completely relate, when i started I was busy but not as busy as i got over the years, work can definitely make the schedule very narrow, but there's always time for a small doodle, what is missing is the energy when we do have the time, so at the end, will power is needed too, I wish you luck in rebuilding the habit!
@@Gebs-Art Thanks.
you know what, i dont think I wanna become better & consistent at drawing anymore if that so. I just cannot rule it out with many other side interests at the same time.
I think this is a great mindset, the video is a "how to improve faster" but that doesn't mean is the only way to improve in general, the best way on this path is the one without the pressure of competition, many people have the constant pressure of being better and better and it can definitely lead to burnout, so please keep doing it for yourself, you have the right mindset
Thank you for sharing ❤️
@@Gebs-Art yeah right, I've wrote this comment when was feeling lowkey down tbh;
Plus, drawing is the kinda problematically big one interest (by its difficulty & consistency need I mean), when you already having too many of side interests. Just feels like drawing, like a hobbie, doesn't reward as much as my others - although it's still interesting.
❤
ima have to try these methods out
Hope it goes well, wishing you the best of luck!
Ive been drawing for about 3 years and my progress is pretty good. But i'm sure i would be so much better if i drew everyday
Thank you for helping me
I just restarted to draw again after 6 months of not touching any of my art equipment.
Deeply thanks
Oh boy, I can't wait to improve my art
Oh I didn't mean to make this video public this early hahaha
Thank you for watching lestuc
Gosh your kind words mean a lot haha
My friends who are further in the art journey than I am are enouraging me on. So we'll see where stuff goes from here.
This video has 2k views rn! Congrats!
Thank you swirly! I never made a video pass 1k so this is crazy (without counting that music one)
I'm very grateful for all the nice people interacting with the video is been such mind-blowing and heartwarming
3 months in.My art really improved.I can now draw without heavily relying on Refrences.
Congrats on the 3 months and going strong! Im glad you can see the improvement too, also references on any level is great, is good to not rely fully on them, but they are eventually needed to learn new things or more complex stuff, but that might come again with time, thank you for sharing!
@@Gebs-Art and thank you for making this video I now know how to improve faster and better than before
I will start the 100 head challenge today I need to draw more this video just came to the right time
ohh! that sounds amazing, challenges like those can be very fun and helpful, I do want to do similar stuff too in the future
what the video didnt say you dont have to do a full blown finished thing. just sketch out a pose , or few practices ,drawings squares, hands(which are just bending boxes), circles wiggly line points(persepective practices with limb). ref 4 poses. boom you can use this for actual drawings that day or stop for that day.
you dont have to number them your phone gallery can do that for you.
I did say those in the video but I agree 100% with you
First of all, I just want to say what a good video this is gebs, I think all these tips you listed are great and together can build a crazy strong foundation for those who are looking to improve their work. Honestly I'd love to have a sketchbook again, I used to sketch something everyday for a warmup and compile it into a huge collage, it was fun! When it comes to references I’m always in the mindset of “I can always use more”, not to strictly copy but to have a collection of stuff to take information from as I draw is such a useful tool and really can give drawings that extra “oomph” …for a lack of a better word LMAO
You mentioning the 1000 drawings a year vs "take as long as you want" really made me think of the word "mileage".
Thank you so much ling! it is fun to have a sketchbook, i did started one on September but didnt stick with it as much, i really would love to get back to it again
I think having a lot of references is good when one is studying, but for fun or personal stuff i think keeping it limited might even help muscle memory and creativity flow more freely, but definitely both are important to improve, use them as tools not to fully rely on them
Also yeah is drawing a lot sounds like an obvious thing but most people miss the point of doing so, i think the point is more related to consistency more than actually drawing that much, since building the habit is very important
you dont have to do it daily to make a habit of it, so even if you didnt drew daily, you drew often, so its a habit on its own, just not as consistent, also theres ups and downs about drawing when you dont want to, thats why i emphasize on minimizing the stress of drawing something big, and start small instead, until its incorporated in within you
Also when someone has many ways to express themselves, drawing, music, dancing, etc, it becomes more fun to be creative but it minimizes the quantity of each medium that is used, not saying is a bad thing, actually is amazing, is just harder to balance for most people, so usually people stick with one and focus on it, some people are great at multitasking, some people are awful
Overall im happy you could do a trip to your motivations and remember how it went and how is going, is nice to look back when you want to see how much things changed if you are trying to improve
Hoping to see more of your work in the future
Great video! This made me want to give drawing a shot
Thank you! And yeah anything that involves expressing ourselves is worth a try!
thankyou
The best improvement I ever got was making 2 pages of a webcomic every week for 3 years
The things it forced me to learn, like composition and posing, helped me out so much more than drawing randomly without a schedule or purpose ever did
I also worked on a webcomic and helped me get much better at expressions and consistency, i do think is a fun thing to try, glad you committed for 3 years that'd very impressive
Because what you say sounds beautiful, a lot of cases, procrastination can literally kill the will of doing it.. doing it less and less because you don't feel like doing it, until you look back and you only drew once 2 years ago
So again, if you already have a good pace, don't push yourself too much and enjoy what you have
Thank you for sharing!
Bro you motivates me, im going to commit Drawing Everyday
Thank you! I'm happy youll give it a go! I wish you all the luck on your streak
@@Gebs-Art Thank youu
this is hyping me up !
heck yeah!
I hear this "draw every day" tip so much, and let me bring up a counterpoint:
Lack of motivation, I've tried everything I can to get motivated to draw, but I just can't, so my art's gonna be shit forever
I agree with you, no one should force themselves to draw, and this video is not a "how to force yourself to draw" that will lead to burnout
Going at ones pace is all it's needed to enjoy it
This video however addresses other points about improvement and is addressed to the people who are more serious about art, many people here wants to make it their job, and we need to learn the things I talked about to be able to make it not drive us insane when we are working as an artist.. or just being serious about improving our skills
Also for me and others art was a way of distress and we found comfort In Doing it multiple times a day every day, and it helped us going through things.. I'm not saying what you say is wrong, it definitely applies differently depending on the person and the situation
But again, this is a tips video, not a "must do or you'll be bad" you can still be great going slow, that's not what the video is about
I do want to talk about burnout and other similar topic in the future
Thank you for sharing your side
I can say i have an art style but honestly i dont rlly like it. I've been seeing lots of videos these weeks, collecting inspiration from pinterest and so. I've never had an actual habit I wanted to have, because its easy for me to forget things and so on. But with those videos and yours its like pushing me to have it,
Although drawing everyday sounds easy it is not and i know that. So i will and try to keep up drawing everyday from now on.
Its my last week on school before recess (vacations), so I'll keep doing at least one draw in 1day, your videos inspired me much and i think im ready to do that.
With this video i'll try to follow all your steps you mentioned here. If i get better at drawing, tysm for doing this!❤
something i noticed is that you can make your art style, but i think the best way is to let the art style made itself as we keep going and focusing on increasing our skill and trying out new things, we might be missing out things we might absolutely love doing but we never tried for fear of it "not being fun" or something like that, im sure you are doing wonderfully and as long as you remember the positive parts of why you enjoy doing art, you will improve a lot and exceed your own expectations, even if the progress seems slow for a bit, it will snowball
Also as long as you dont push too much trying drawing daily can help a lot, just remember that it doesnt have to be perfect or great or even decent, just needs to be there so you build that habit up, even a small 20 sec doodle is more than enough if that day you are not feeling like drawing
Hope you can remain strong and I wish you the best of luck on your journey!
Nice video mate
That is amazing improvement! and i do relate to the reasons we started, to me was distress, it really helped me going through some stuff at the time, I think if anything, it seems like overtime you shifted the reasons you started, from wanting to do it because of how it made you feel, to wanting to draw good stuff, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to draw great things, but when you push yourself down when you don't "achieve" that perfection then it makes you feel bad, i think this a perfectionist mindset and a lot of people go through it so i would say, trying to remember why you started and why you like doing it is important beyond the thought of "i want to draw good" but why we want that right? we do like art, we just need to remember or find out why we like it so much
Also experiment and trying new things might help too, finding new things you enjoy or re sparking that feeling you had that made you commit so much to it at first
I think these are topics that i want to talk about more on videos, burnout, motivation, and related topics, it can be a difficult path, also being part of communities, like having art friends to share with can make so much wonders to the mentality, unless you are the jealous type, but you said is journeys like mine that kept you going so i don't think you are, quite the opposite, so keep it up!
Thats so amazing! definitely now day and age is much more accessible to have dreams like that, where a few years back it seemed impossible, I wish you all the luck and that you find success in your dreams!
thank you for the video, that was a really helpfull for motivate drawing. A nice vid
Thank you so much! Glad it was helpful

so nice ❤😍 new friend
My art hase been improved a lot. Even though it's a countryball, literally a head.
1 1/2 I can see the development ❤
anything counts! it does snowball slowly but the improvement is there
Great advice for improving mate!
Thank you! im glad you find it helpful!
im about two years into my adventure as an artist and I will say I have not made as much progress as you. Im dedicated but to me it really hard for me to keep motivation without getting burnt out due to things such as school and having to leave a lot due to family issues. Do you have any suggestions or advice when it comes to burnout and low motivation?
I completely understand, to me art was to distress from life burnout, so is kind of like the opposite, I didn't got burnt from art but art was pretty much all i had back then, it really is different from person to person, but with art burnout and motivation, i would really love to elaborate more in a video in the future, there's so much to say about it
In the meantime I can say a couple things that hopefully resonates with you, when it comes to art we need to stop focusing on what the product is and more about the process and why we like doing this, we choose to do art for a reason, we all drew as kids but most people stopped over time and don't care for it, we choose to keep doing it, or come back to it after awhile, why? maybe trying to remember the core reason you do this might help you enjoy the process more
Also 100% don't push yourself too much if you already have many stresses in life, if that the case, doodling and keeping it at minimum might help getting started again, start small again and see how you feel from there, it doesn't have to be daily even, or weekly, we will find our pace as long as we keep seeking the information and help we need
I wish you all the best in this journey and that you can find joy on it again
hello Art dad!!
If this is mainly for fun and to only express yourself, then stick with what's more comfortable for you
If you want to be a professional one day, traditional has a market but digital has way more opportunities when it comes to the flexibility
Both can be hard, there's pros and cons on both sides definitely so you need proper time and effort to be good at either one
So stick with what you love! And best of luck on your journey
@@Gebs-Art thanks Art dad!! much love🥰🥰
Hey, I just recently got a drawing tablet and I downloaded Krita. What program do you use?
Congrats on the tablet! I use Clip Studio Paint (Is paid) But I tried Krita in the past, is really good!
@@Gebs-Art Ok, thanks for telling.👍
drawing every single day is great recipe for burnout
I agree, but that only if you do large things and fixate on making things "perfect" or too big, starting small can be easier and not overwhelming, also not focusing on making something good and rather enjoy the process, most people don't get burnout of games and stuff like that, is about enjoying it and getting that habit going, so yeah I agree with you on the side of, if you push your self you will burnout like crazy, so everyone has their own pace, this video is more for the people who are more serious about stepping up their skill and are more serious about art, many people here wants to make it their career
Thank you for the comment, burnout is definitely something i would love to talk about more in the future
I needed this, thanks 💖
Im glad you enjoyed the video thank you!
Drawing every day is true but overwhelming.
I recommend sketching every day. I've been doing this at night since it is my only vacant time.
I agree, thats why i mentioned in the video, that starting as small as you can allow yourself to draw, since the skill will come in time, we focus on building the habit first!
Also yeah time is something that has to be in consideration, for people who work or go to school or have other responsibilities
Is nice that you can give your self some time to draw, even if is a little bit when is possible
@@Gebs-Art
Yes, I did some practice. I started to sketch chibis head😅
Hey, i'm putting *ALOT* into my artworks, and its still ass... all tho i did massivly increase in art style and skill, its still very bad. i dont have motivation, but i have alot of confidence to do art daily. BUT THATS MY PROBLEM, i don't have the motivation to.,
i really hope i get motivation, and gain alot of skill, talent, etc etc. im so good at online art, mobile ofc...
krita PC (or clip studio PC idk) i really hope your video helps me in the future with tips, and such. love your channel! im gonna sub now :D
Thank you so much for sharing! I'm glad you like the video I'm making, i would definitely love to make a video covering motivation, art block and similar topics
Also I want to do Livestreams covering the topics we talked about but in depth
I appreciate you look forward to it, means a lot
Also there's so many methods and strategies to go about improvement, experimenting is very important and getting out of the comfort zone to learn new things, even if they are not related to the things we are mainly interested in drawing
One skill helps grow the other, but yeah there's a lot to say about it and I'd love to elaborate more in the future
Thank you again, and I really hope for the best for you and your journey
I like your style
Thank you so much!
thank you!
I have a personal question mr.Gebs.
If I have a project/piece that is large, does putting work(drawing) in the large project be counted as an objective same as to draw anything a day and be beneficial same way in progressing?
Absolutely, the idea of drawing daily is to build up the habit, so as long as you are working on something daily you are practicing and improving, keep it up and best of luck!
hmmm... the only problem is that I have to miss days because of studies. But I try practicing shapes though.
It is hard you are absolutely right, I talked a bit more in depth on my perfectionism video, but there's so many factors that can easily push us down to get stuck, if jealousy is not a thing in your case I do recommend finding people to work alongside with, making it something to do with friends or similar people to you can both make it so much more fun and also gives you that push to do things and work on stuff.. overall I know that a lot is related to what we are going through in our lives so don't push your self too much, but if you can push to start and find the reasons to enjoy the process I know it'll get better
I wish you the best of luck and that you find a comfortable place to be in
Youre so goddamn underrated oh my lord
ahh thank youuu thats very kind of youu
I think because drawing everyday was hard I based my streak in every week . So I need to draw each week
absolutely! everyone has their own pace, so a weekly schedule still is being consistent and it will snowball at the end, go as you see comfortable without pushing too much, wish you the best of luck!
Is warm up a must?? Or i can just straight up drawing?? (Especially cuz i have a tight schedule,IM afraid doing a warm up Will shorten my time to draw what i actually want...i have a limited time to draw )
Is not a must, mostly a tip, loosen up and having more confidence in the strokes helps a lot but all of the things I said just add up to the overall habit, you can skip as many as you want to make it adjust to what you can do, don't push yourself too much
Best of luck
Although I love your approach I did that everyday day when i was younger and it made me frustrated tired bored I'm great at drawing now and do push myself but for younger viewers if you don't feel like it just try atleast 3 a week although his will help more you don't wanna hate art and posting art makes me feel better about it and help notice mistakes I suggest trying to post it somewhere just a little ❤ from someone makes your art feel special- anyways enough ranting SEE YA
absolutely, is not about drawing a full illustration each day, pushing your self too much will lead to burnout so i agree that each person has to pace them selves with what they can do without pushing it too much, the point of drawing daily is too build up a habit, not increase the skill, the habit will lead to the skill, but we all have to start in small bites, thank you for sharing!
been drawing in class with my friend for 2 years, improved with him ALOT, but im still dog at drawing hands 💀
Sounds very fun to have a art friend to do this things with, it does make it much more fun! im sure you are pushing yourself down and you are improving non the less the more you do it, so just focus on having a good time!
Also same, i love drawing hands but man i need practice haha
667 sub, good vid
thank you very much!
I took me roughly 1 year to go from completely clueless about light and colours and rendering to actually being quite decent at those
But its still NOT enough
Still grinding
You have so much time ahead of you and I think most artists started at childhood like yourself, give yourself some time, keep improving your skill, have fun with projects and when you look back you'll see the immense amount of improvement, keep it up and I'm sure you will achieve so many things!
aww ty@@Gebs-Art
Art block, homework, studying, tiredness = cant draw daily
There is many ways to go about those barriers, you can still draw everyday even dealing with those, it would be a whole topic but maybe I can talk about art block in the future...even with a job or being a student there's always a way to find the time, i hope this doesn't seem rude to say but is easy to make inconveniences into excuses to not do something.. but again, you can chose not to do this, is not a cheat code to be good, it does require some self discipline.. wish you the best if you ever want to give it a try
Holy moly 4 vids and HUNDREDS OF SUBS? ALREADY?
IKR im mind blown for the insane amount of support i been getting, im as surprised as you are
My thing is, I never know what to draw. I want to draw everyday but I just can't figure out what to draw! Any help or suggestions!?
There's actually many things to do and try when it comes to always know what to draw, i would love to make a video about it at some point
For now I can tell you a couple quickly, drawing for friends or your OCS, if you don't have any, maybe create OCS based on things like food or toys or something like that, working on projects like small comics might help you as well, or a sequence of drawings.. of anything the good ol study can be a great thing to do, get references to study
Overall I wish you the best of luck and I hope you have a great time working on things
@@Gebs-Art thank you smm for this!!🫶🏾
I have an idea for an awesome action kids show(a kids show that can be enjoyed by kids and adults, ) I want to stand out from most of the adult only content shows on UA-cam, but I'm just one man, I just feel so much stress that I can't do this alone without other people, as well as getting judged for having awful drawing, Is there something I can do? Its also going to be a pilot movie about the 6 heroes, it would begin with the main character meeting the other 5 heroes in the pilot movie, the show would sometimes be action/slice of life.
I think what will help you start, is to start, no matter the quality, no matter how many people worked on it, if you start you'll do it and learn from it, then overtime you can try again if you feel like you need to remake it, but that time you'll have more experience
We get better by doing, failing and learning from it
Also no one worth having around will judge you if you are aiming to make something that people enjoy
People are toxic on the internet for no reason, is important to not let it get to you, you are doing something to help and be enjoyed so have pride on it!
Overall don't push yourself too much, break down the project in smaller bits that can be done more easily and just go at your own pace
I wish you the best of luck
