The difference is that John Mayer is actually one of the best guitarists of his generation and everyone ignores that fact because he’s John Mayer. His stuff with Dead & Company was fantastic.
Don't get me wrong, Matt is great, but John Mayer is a much more unique in music (and better in his craft overall) than Matt Rife is in comedy. Matt got charisma and improv going on for him, but his specials are just not there. Overused topics, average performance, and obvious jokes that you would expect from a stand-up comedian. I haven't seen his stand up, so take this with a grain of salt. Crowd work is a double edged sword. It's great for the viral moment. Helps promote your show without giving away your act. Crowd work changes with each show. But your actual act is never exposed. The downside is everyone is coming to see you in hopes of seeing the next viral moment live, which takes away from the prepared material.

Good on him, a lot of tiktok comics sold out a tour with 15 minutes of material stretched to 45 minutes, apparently his show is great. Really seems like he’s earned it.
I know it‘s the new way to go and good for them but the tiktok way to fame just feels icky. I would not want that audience but good for him.
@@DailyShit.unfortunately it will soon become the norm and possibly something to strive for :/
@@DailyShit.it’s the best way to get your comedy out there.
@@DailyShit.he’s been around and performing standup and on comedy shows for over a decade. He’s put the work in but was largely dismissed by the comedy world BECAUSE of his looks. People are quick to discredit him just because he’s conventionally attractive so if he finally decided to utilize the best tool for marketing right now to get the exposure he deserved anyway, that’s good business. A lot of comedians also thrive on being “goofy” looking and that’s THEIR blowup. If people wanna bring up looks, make sure to acknowledge the advantage on both ends of the spectrum.

Matt is a really good comedian, and totally deserves all his success.
watch his specials first, straight snooze fest
@@rubencartier5616my wife thinks he's funny. I watched all of his material, never laughed once. Meanwhile I watch Louie CK and die laughing the whole time.
He’s horrendous. If he was ugly he wouldn’t even be known. Girls only laugh bc he smiles and laughs.
@@SWLDguitar1well that’s because you understand comedy
He’s unfunny lmao
Tom Segura "they don't want to distract you from their comedy by the way they look"
His wife "I bought two pink suits and had them encrusted with diamonds"
That suit was so horrendous 😂
Still don‘t get why she did that bs
She committed to the bit. I was in love with her whole shtick for that special 😂 they need Matt on their podcast YMH
Right omfg
His wife's the worst..
I first saw Matt on Zooming with the Homies during the pandemic. I didn’t know him at all, but all the black comedians on Zooming talked about him being on the scene for years. Matt riffing with Jackie Fabulous, Tahir Moore and Tony Baker is some of the funniest stuff
“Most dudes who look like that are women” Theo is undefeated
4:06 "It's these cameras!! You don't have nice cameras!!" LMAOOO 🤣🤣
Joke wrld slowly becoming a legit respectable channel and I like it.
happy for this dude -- deserves every ounce of attention he gets
Dude grinded for 10 years, totally deserves it.
"Yeah and most dudes that look like that are women"
Theo Von kills me
Patrice Oneal called, he wants his bits back
Every time I see Soder speak, I like him that much more. Very real, genuine, self aware takes.
I think the same goes for eveeryone on the Regz, well except for Bobby. He thinks of himself as somekind of grandfather of comedy, the guy is so full of himself it's hard to listen at times.
His Macho Man is the best I've ever heard...I love him for that alone. 😅
Lmao Bobby Lee kicking Matt’s ass is true comedy. Satire.
He stopped doing coke, started working on himself and his crowd work. He’s been grinding for 10+ years. Glad he got his success. It’s unfortunate people take his looks as the reason for his success. It probably was a factor but def not the reason.
The Matt guy seems to be legit like he wasn’t always this perfect man with great looks or amazing sense of humor, he actually put in the work for years.
Too plastic surgery
Did he really get plastic surgery?

I am just happy so many different types of comedians are successful.
Tim Dillon describing how women love smart comedians is what did me in.
matt rife worked for it. and i saw it happen because i lived in a house with him when he was starting in LA (randomly, not by choice). and one of the girls there hooked him up with wild n out, the rest is history. congrats to matt...u can't win if u don't have the talent. and he keeps ppl coming back, so he wins :)
Matt Rife is the John Mayer of comedy. Hated because he just seems to have everything going for him. It’s not him we have to hate, it’s ourselves 😅
The difference is that John Mayer is actually one of the best guitarists of his generation and everyone ignores that fact because he’s John Mayer. His stuff with Dead & Company was fantastic.
John mayer is actually good and has always been. The world took forever to notice.
I see Matt rife sucking right now
John Mayer is a fucking tool
Don't get me wrong, Matt is great, but John Mayer is a much more unique in music (and better in his craft overall) than Matt Rife is in comedy. Matt got charisma and improv going on for him, but his specials are just not there. Overused topics, average performance, and obvious jokes that you would expect from a stand-up comedian. His material is just... shallow? Everything is on the surface. Another Kevin Heart kind of comedian.
Lmfao "we are the same type of guy" "it's because you don't have good cameras" 😂😂😂 "fighting for supremacy, my crowd is all women because they're smart" lmfaooooo shit slayed me. Hershey Pennsylvania. Doppelganger. Such good material. I cannot.
"Katie has to rub my back" stoppppp 😂
I haven't seen his stand up, so take this with a grain of salt. Crowd work is a double edged sword. It's great for the viral moment. Helps promote your show without giving away your act. Crowd work changes with each show. But your actual act is never exposed. The downside is everyone is coming to see you in hopes of seeing the next viral moment live, which takes away from the prepared material.
Watch his stand up. Not just the crowd work clips. It’s good. 🙃
@@YellaBellaRenoit’s bottom of upper level comedy. His material is pretty obvious and not deep/witty. I don’t hate the guy, good for him and his career. I couldn’t finish two of his specials because I just wasn’t really laughing and knew the punchline before he delivered.
That guy constantly laughing in the back when Tim Dillon is talking about Matt makes it so funny!
This was very well put together. Props.
the true mvp of this video is Nadav Itzkowitz laughing in the background
“some people say he’s a NPC” bro Theo kills me 🤣
3:30 " i feel like you could get in shape as much as possible, and you'd still have a double chin "

I think we have yet to see what Matt is capable of as a comedian and is being limited by the demographics of his audience. Hopefully he will get a chance to do his thing in front of the typical variety of people who are comedy fans. If and when he does his improv and audience engagement comedic skills will be able to be tapped into. He's got another gear he hasn't been able to get to yet due to his audience and he knows it's not letting him really do his thing imo. I'm gonna wait until that Matt is doing shows before I pay to go see him.
Just stay disciplined and start saving your allowance $ instead of buying all the substances you consume then you could afford to see him now and later on.
@@billcooper2517 Golly bill that's a great idea geez you've really come through on this one...oh hey how's taking care of your mom's cats going?
i taste salt on this one lol
Matt Rife was on Wild N' Out YEARS ago.
Dude's been showing up and disappearing in the comedy scene for years before his stand up blew up.
A few of these comedians are just mad a younger kid is doing it
Matt is hilarious and his crowd work is some of the best
Yes. A student of the Andrew Shulz academy of crowd work 😂😂
Stavvy is 1. better at crowdwork and B. way hotter
"you have dinner with her, you have to fill the conversation" never heard that one, fuckin hilarious
He’s funny, he’s handsome, he’s young. Go get it brother! 🤙🏼
I think Rife has been putting in work since like 14 or 15, he said, so good for him
The laughing when Tim Dillon is talking about his doppelganger sent me
"you could exercise as much as you want and you'd still have a double chin sent me 😂😂
I love that guy in the blue hat who's like "Do your research." lol I don't think he was specifically chirping the blonde girl, but her comment was stupid, he's not some rookie, kid's been grinding stand up since he was 15..... in some tough fucking rooms too.
No one with abs like him can be that funny

"It wasn't even another ticket! It was a *RAFFLE* ticket!!!" Omgggg 😂😂😂
Lmao the raffle one was both painful and hilarious
“It’s funny and interesting to discuss and breakdown” literally why I watched the whole video. I want to hate him because of my own insecurities, but he’s clearly talented and yeah a pretty bloke too.
Wholesome and healthy conversations from the other comics here
It’s funny I always thought Yannis & Joe were the same person before now 😂
same with Tim and Matt tbh
@@thefgcsensei4482your comment made me actually laugh out loud. Caught me by surprise lol, thanks for that
Omg lol
I feel like the vacuum Chris D left in the scene allowed Matt Rife to just blast through along with his great jokes and crowd work. As much as id love to say its just his looks. Hit crowd work is great and his jokes hit pretty well too.
The guy's been doing it for a decade plus, pretty sure he toured with Ralphie May and other respected comedians coming up too, so idk why all the hate. People saying he came out of nowhere are completely disregarding 10 years of working as a nobody, overnight sensations are rarely overnight to the person putting in the work. I do 100% get Soder's point about not wanting that audience though, drunk horny women are the cringiest hecklers
people will say someone came out of nowhere when they have no investment in the persons field.
same people who say stavros came out of nowhere.
Dave Chapelle invited him to his summer camp and these guys never mention it.
Whoever it is on the Segura cast, always dying of laughter in the background, keeps cracking me up - every time lmao, laughter can really be contagious
The Dan Soder one is AMAZING!!😂😂😂
This is random as hell but I feel like Dan Soder and Jason Segel would be hilarious in a movie together as brothers
Matt has some funny stuff but I just can’t get over how he talks like one of those people that love to ramble on about what happened to them that day, on their Snapchat story (or other media). It’s like our generations version of a transatlantic accent. Schulz does it too
Cancel Matt Rife! Cancel Bill Burr! Cancel Jimmy Carr!!!
Cancel EVERYONE!!! Coz every person out there has people they dont like that live in their brain rent free. Take that negative energy for someone you can literally skip over when looking for something tp watch, listen to, watch them play, etc.
"Dont like it? Dont listen?!" - Eminem
Matt Rife is one of those once in a generation entertainers that people love to hate! But only by people that purposely look for UA-cam videos to watch just to try to tear him down because their own lives are so shitty!!! The "domestic abuse" joke was a little shocking, but before Matt said that if she could cook this may not have happened. But, just about the whole audience laighed at it! And HARD at the joke. Maybe 5 percent were offended. Anyways, there are like 10 billion channels with other material to choose from so skip whomever you dont like and dont waster your time on your object of hate! Life is too short for that shit.
Matt Rife started on Wild N Out he was always funny
"Go to dinner with Kate Beckinsale??? You gotta fill the convo dude..."
Ded🤣☠️🤣☠️
He's been doing comedy since being a teenager. A family member, I think his uncle was his support system & pushed him to go for it.. he been doing this for years. It's crazy just becuase you're good looking, you are not allowed to be good at other skills. This is pure insecurity & jealously.. It's like people think ffs you are already hot, do you need to also be funny you so greedy..lol
After learning this dude's grind and how hard he worked to finally breakthrough where he is, I'm proud of him. I really am not a fan of standup from others, I find most of it kinda lame but his crowdwork is insanely entertaining. He's got it
He’s not a KID it’s such messed up way to talk down on someone. He is 29 year old MAN 😂
48-year-old man here and I think Matt rife is pretty funny. He makes me laugh.
6 year old mermaid 🧜♂️ here and I think Matt Is pretty funny as well. He makes me laugh
@@Cheese_crackers what part of the ocean do you live in cheesy cracker
Did anyone else notice most of his fans are young women that would probably be offended if the jokes he made were anyone else?
Matt Rife reminds me ofJoyce Hyser in that Just One of the Guys movie😂he's funny-but Theo was dead on saying"most men that look like that are women"😂
Hey, he's put the time in and he's really good at it. People hating on him are jealous and don't realize that he's been at it for a decade+. Reminds me of back in the day when I was in a band and our singer was talking sht about some typical hated on band like Nickelback or something. I wasn't into the hate. He said "dude, what's with you? You don't hate ANY bands"? I replied "hate them for what? If I don't like them I just don't buy their music. I'm happy for them, their dreams came true. Dude, WE'RE in a band hoping to make it. Good for them". We didn't make it.
Perfectly said!!
The new Dane Cooke!
Nah
I immediately see this as an insult, simply bc Dane Cook is awful. Beyond it.
Hope I didn't misunderstand your point. I just can't imagine comparing someone to him could ever be done in the positive.
