This is the perfect response to Scott Walker for using "I'm Shipping Up To Boston" for a his theme song in his political campaign. Scott Walker is the former Governor of Wisconsin. He tried to ban employment unions. Murphys basiclly gave him a Cease And Desist.

I can't express how much love I have for this new album.
To the few people in the comments saying “Oh I used to love them until they became political.” I hate to break it to yah MAGAS, (actually I love breaking it to yah) but DKM have been pro union and leftist since their 1997 founding. Amongst the albums I own of theirs, from their first album, Do or Die, to now, I count at least 10 pro Union songs off the top of my head, Boys on the Docks and Ten Years of Service stand outs from their debut and sophomore albums. Their original lead singer, Mike McColgan wrote even more with his follow up band, the Street Dogs. Also, to a comment that said “millionaires singing about workers,” DKM were nowhere near millionaire status until after I’m shipping up to Boston (another woody Guthrie tune) exploded following the release of the Departed in 2006-2007. This is a band that has been together (at least founding members Ken Casey, drummer Matt Smith, and Al Barr, who replaced McColgan) for almost 3 decades. They always were, always are, and always will be Union supporters. Woke and proud

What great energy Ken still has at 53 ( 10 years older than me). I first saw this band in 1996 When i was in my senior year of high school and have been a devoted fan ever since !

I agree with you, but think his absence a good time for this album. He's taking time away to care for his mother, so the band is incomplete. So if they're going to do an acoustic album with somebody else's lyrics, that's better IMO than doing a traditional DKM album without Al.
Also, what a good dude, stepping away from such a cool life to care for his mom.

@@wzh8731 Unfortunately there is no cure at the moment for what Al's mum has, which is Lewy body Dementia. While there are treatments that can target certain symptoms it is not a disease that can be stopped or slowed. It's a very sad disease and I only hope that her time left is meaningful, full of love and as comfortable and peaceful as it can be. Hey, we all only have a limited time, let it be a lesson to life life to the fullest and do out best to make it a better place for those around us.

I only recently found out about this album even though I've listened to the Murphy's for 20 years (I have no idea how it slipped under my radar) this song is awesome I hope to hear it live when I see them on February 17th
I have just loved DropKick not knowing of him till i moved away from Calgary Alberta Canada to Tenerife Spain and loving and leaving my children and grandkids to have me know they miss me so much its a tradition for my youngest son ways sends me I WISH YOU WERE HERE

Woody was in the Merchant Marine. He was singing about the creation of the National Maritime Union in 1937. The SIU mentioned in the song is the Seafarers International Union. The two unions merged in 1988.
