I found that racing drivers can be quite nervous when they are being driven fast by someone else. Definitely it’s because they’re not in control of the car. And that is always entertaining to see!

Darrell is such a nice guy. He took the time to stop and talk to me for 20+ minutes this year at the Kentucky race. I even talked to him, and applauded his commentating on Bathurst last year. He was sincerely heartbroken that he didn't get to go back to Bathurst for the race yesterday. He thinks so highly of the V8 boys it's not even comical. He talked to me about some of the Aussies who would love to drive in NASCAR. Some of the names he brought up would probably shock alot of V8 SC fans.

It's a passenger ride so you're not in control, so it's triply scary. And fuck it's Bathurst! I got a bit scared riding shotgun in a Corvette street car around Brands Hatch!

jichaelmackson1958 Darrell has a radio mentality as seen here, but that's his calling card in the booth. He painted a lap of Bathurst in words as if you're listening to it on radio, feeling everything. Pictures do not do justice. Listen to the final laps of that race he called, and you can hear him do justice to Greg Murphy's words at a mid-race pit stop come true, and their call of the final laps might put Matt White to shame. Using the final 500m of the race to paint Lowndes vs Tander as an epic battle while Matt was saying Percat was the first rookie since Ickx to win showed night and day.

dont argue please people. we need to have some respect for anyone that straps themselves into a race car and puts their lives on the line for other peoples entertainment. if it is oval track or road course they all have to concentrate and race their little hearts out. Here in Australia we are used to tracks with different cornering. cars need to be set up as such. even in nascar racing there is a skill involved with car tow and pushing as they call it and they race just as close as they do here in Australia even more so at times. Bathurst is one of the greatest and scariest tracks in the world though, because of the fact that there are walls everywhere and so many blind turns. Like Darrel said the tv does not do this track justice and until you have been here and driven on the track you dont really understand. we all love our racing by the sounds of it so lets just leave it at that. by the way the chicane or caltex chase was added to conrod straight in 1987 to reduce the speed of the cars going into hell corner as the cars were getting too fast by that period of time. Hell Corner was named after a tree stump that existed on the apex of the turn. It was believed that any motorcycle riders who hit the stump would die in an act of folly and thereby be doomed to an eternity of death. i dont drive a race or have never been in one but in May of this year i will be getting a hot lap at Winton in Victoria so i will get a little bit of a feel for what the drivers go through and it is an experience that i am really looking forward too. so please be nice to each other and enjoy your racing no matter where you come from. Thanks

Love to see NASCAR run here. I drive this track on a video game and it's fun as hell. I live in the middle of NASCAR country near Charlotte and have always followed it. I also watch V-8 supercars. Love them both. Love to see them race here. Tons of road courses in the U.S. Watkins Glen, Road America or Leguna Seca would be great for a Supercar race.

'The Cutting' section of the track was actually crafted by pre-Numidian stonemasons from the planet Zygar... so in many ways it is indeed a geological oddity.

I've driven race cars all my life and I can tell you. Driving isn't scary, you're busy and you're in control. Riding in a racecar (any kind) is another story. It is terrifying! If you trust your driver it is quite an experience and when you are finished you can't believe that you actually do that yourself without the fear.

Waltrip is a good sport here ... he's completely bunging it on, having won that many NASCAR events - he's no rookie at racing; he's playing up being scared like someone who has never been in a fast car before and it's pretty funny. Don't believe for a moment his reactions are real.

A lot of racers will tell you that they're control freaks and genuinely feel uncomfortable in cars they're not in control of. There's a common saying among race instructors towards their students: Don't try to impress me because you can't and don't try to scare me because I already am.

mrguitarguygates Darrell Waltrip actually inspired Will Ferrel to do his Ricky Bobby character. When Darrell raced, he was known to talk a lot when he was a racer and a NASCAR commentator, Dale Earnhardt Sr would go on the same channel with DW just to hear the funny and wild things he said while racing. He loved hearing DW doing his Boogity Boogity Boys phrase when the first green flag waved.

Seen some mad stacks, skin and bark off, cloithes left in tatters, it was preety hectic. Was right there at the dunlop tyre when that guy stacked.it into the wall. I knew he was fucked, because his head was hanging wrong, and i saw them pull the body from the car. That was a preety rude intro to bathurst.

DW's commentary is about the best thing about NASCAR. Give the man some respect, he's a racing legend, just because to us ovals seem boring, doesn't mean it takes any less talent to drive. Otherwise people like Juan Pablo Montoya, Marcos Ambrose, all the other drivers who've come from other series to NASCAR would've breezed their way to championships... yet they haven't. It's a whole different type of racing but different doesn't mean any less talent.Real racing fans would know this.

Hard to beat that, American exaggerations actually appropriate, and sincere.
Just one thought or so,... there has been a few so lucky to be escorted on such a lap, to take it a step further, I would like to see Jeremy Clarkson drive a minimum quota of laps (2 or 3) in a good car car, and maybe let him have a punt with a V8 Super Car... Then,, subject him him to a lap in the passenger seat with whoever. With no speculation, I just want to see the look on his face, followed by silence for quite some time (-:

American Motorsport have same diversity and deep history like Europe.
They have Indycar, American Le Mans Series/United Sportscar Championship, Global Rallycross, Formula Drift, Pikes Peak Hillclimb NHRA Drag Racing etc.
There's American drivers who competed and even won in Formula 1, Le Mans and any international race events in motorsport history, and some of them called LEGEND in American sporting history! and that's why American cars like Mustang, Viper, Ford GT, Corvette are famous.
but everyone (and even Americans) focusing and know nothing but going around left in big circles over 2~3 hours. And trollers only talks about it like it's right.
(No offense. I'm fan of NASCAR too. I was really sick of people bashing it with ignorance.)
    Such a sad truth....
