I can see why they didn’t implement save states or rewinds, but at a minimum a stage and boss select for practice would’ve been appropriate and I hope they add it as an update down the road if enough of us mention it. It would be elementary to do. At least something that unlocks once you complete the game or those stages. One note on the score not resetting after continue which is certainly odd, there is at least an indicator that shows continues were used. So you can separate a proper high score run from one with continues. But I agree I don’t see a purpose to it not resetting regardless. Both things that can be pretty easily patched I think so fingers crossed. As otherwise I’m really happy with the package and am still working on my review too.
Yeah, stage select would be good enough for me. Just something to allow you to practise those later stages since the early ones only really need practising in terms of optimal scoring.
I wonder if they will patch the leaderboards, though. If I remember correctly, Rolling Gunner has the same issue. What I tend to do in those situations is use one profile for one credit scores and one for just mucking about. Not ideal, but it works okay.
Looking forward to seeing your thoughts, by the way!
The fact that the score doesn’t reset seems to intentionally reflect how the original worked. Well, at least we know which scores have continued.
Really glad to see this is happening! Really glad to see another video from you! Cheers
Love the channel. Best youtuber covering shmups on Switch 👍
Been having a lot of fun in the arrange mode. being able to play as Silk is something new to me
I have the collector’s English language version pre ordered I am such a big kid lol 56 years old video game junkie 😂
It's a shame it's handled by Strickly Limited, you'll be lucky to get it by December
Always good reviews, real shmup lover’S job
Very nice overview! Thanks for taking the time to explain the scoring in the new arrange as well. The game as a whole looks great, outside of the unfortunate lack of practice features (which uh, puts this in line with my PC Engine CD copy of Cotton lol)
Great review, cannot wait to play this! Wonder when will get news on the other Cotton game in development!
Great review. I had no idea about the scoreboards thing. That's a shame!
Still looks like it's worth a pickup, at least.
I'm just happy that it plays well and looks so beautiful. It looks like a lost Saturn game.
Thanks for this, and for being honest!
No stage select.... That's also my problem with Trouble Witches. I hope they add that feature aswell.
As a gamer that is younger than the Cotton series itself and thoroughly enjoyed the Arrange mode...
Do it too for 100% and 2 OR make a brand new sequel, please!
I think they are planning an original sequel. No specific date or further info, but if I remember correctly, it was planned for 2021.
Physical copies can still be preordered at StrictlyLimitedGames. Didn't know they included the original so that is a bonus for me. Can't wait to get my hand on it for my PS4.
Awesome review.
Two quick points. First, if you get the physical version from Japan and don't upgrade to the next version, all the text, including the story, will be in English. As soon as I updated, the text was in Japanese. Second, does anyone know how to unlock Pril from Trouble Witches? I heard that that she's a playable character.
I've read about Pril - but all the info was pre-release. Since the game came out, I haven't seen anyone unlock her and if you look at leaderboards, no one has her there either. Maybe cancelled or being added later?
I totally spaced on this and missed out on the pre order. Now the special ed is out of stock :(
I love how this guy whispers into the microphone in his vids.
Heads up!!!! 3% left of the 3000limited stock at strictly limited.
love this game and the new one.
English version is coming out in June
Any idea about eShop western release?
Just saw this today: twitter.com/ININ_Games/status/1367188451473428480
So, yes, but no date as yet.
This game looks GOOD
I got the physical copy last week but I haven’t got the chance to play it, I’m hook with monster hunter stories 2, I still have sealed skyward sword too!!!!!!’
Michael brought me here. He has good taste so this must be alright
Bro. I thought I got a couple emails. Had to double check
I'm not seeing a Western release preorder yet....
Strictly Limited Games have it: store.strictlylimitedgames.com/collections/cotton-reboot
@@ShmupsOnSwitch Thanks. I put in a preorder yesterday! I love shooters but I suck at them. It's a weird relationship lol
Word of advice when purchasing this title. Keep it on version 1.00
If you update the game it turns all of the text to Japanese, but as it is right now everything is in English writing
Owned and loved my saturn copy when I was younger just can't see spending so much for this though hopefully we get an eshop release
This is a remake of the first Cotton, you probably played Cotton 2? I'm sure they're working on re-releasing that as well :)
I just got my pre-order physical US copy today. $40, but I support the developers in keeping this genre and these classics alive.
@@amberdean1263 I agree with you. First, We complain that we don't have games like this coming out, then when they do come out, we have to ponder how supposed expensive it is and we'll wait for a sale. I personally get a lot more satisfaction in games like this that get re-released than the 99% of AAA games I'll gladly buy these games at full price and support the devs
Disappointing that theres no training or level select. However still excited about this game.
Still debating whether to get Japanese or wait for Western release.
A lot of the setting menus do have English. It's only really the story, manual and mode select that's in Japanese. I can't say this for sure, but usually when a game later gets an English release, that gets patched into the Asian release at the same time too. Not guaranteed, but that's what I suspect will happen here.
