    Those who are getting grub install error, do one thing aditionally create a efi file of 100mb while creating portion in root directory.
    Everything works fine for my hp laptop. It's been 2 days since I tried to install ubuntu while windows 11 on dual boot mode with ssd and hdd side by side.
    This guy's video worked but I had to create a efi file before creating root. It works fine for me.

      Thanks for sharing that, Pritam. Usually, Windows should already have the EFI partition (ESP). This is why I didn't mention to create it explicitely.

    As we know everyone is upgrading to SSD, can you please make video on how to move dual booted (windows 10 + ubuntu 18/20 ) from larger HDD to smaller SSD in the best way keeping the Data Partitions on HDD and moving only system partitions(GPT configuration)

    • @Itsfoss
      @Itsfoss  3 роки тому +1

      You want the HDD to be for data storage only and use it between the two operating systems? You can go to Windows and add the HDD as NTFS partition.
      Now, you should be able to access this NTFS partition from Linux as well. You'll have to do special effort for auto mounting it though.

    so what should be the minimum space allotted to UBUNTU to run fast.
    No questions for HDD.

    • @Itsfoss
      @Itsfoss  3 роки тому +1

      Hmm... that's too small a space for both Windows and Ubuntu to function properly. I mean Windows itself will take 25-30 GB. You may try creating an additional /boot partition for Linux with 6-8 GB of space on SSD. Keep / and home on HDD. I haven't tried it myself but this should give you some boost while booting Linux.

    Thank you for this video. I have purchased a new laptop which has a 250 GB SSD (disk 1) and a 1TB HDD (disk 0). The laptop is preinstalled with Windows 10 in the SSD. I want to Install Ubuntu (I prefer 18.04 LTS) in the HDD (disk 0). My plan is to make two ntfs partitions (say D and E drive) of 500 GB for windows OS in HDD and make an unallocated space of 500 GB in the HDD where I will install the Ubuntu (root and home in the HDD). Actually I do not want to disturb the C drive (or SSD). Will there be any issue after installing Ubuntu on the HDD? I am a bit worried whether, after finishing installation, I will be able to see the black/purple grub screen with the option to boot into Ubuntu and Windows. Could you please answer/explain me . You can install OS and Apps on the SSD while setting the HDD as storage. If you want to have a faster loading speed, you can choose an SSD. If your computer needs more space to store files, you can choose an HDD

    in my both disk(ssd and hdd) ubuntu is completely installed by mistake and i use only linux on ssd drive and i want to remove ubuntu from hdd and want to merge this hdd drive in my home of my ubuntu i used in sdd for space.

      Well... here's what I advice to do.
      Copy the useful content of home directory from Ubuntu on HDD to that in SSD.
      When you are logged on Ubuntu on SSD, run update grub so that this Ubuntu controls the Grub.
      Have a live USB of Ubuntu ready with you (in case you have to fix boot).
      It will be a good idea to make sure that Ubuntu on SSD is controlling grub and is the main OS in grub.
      When you are in Ubuntu on SSD, use Gparted or some other tool to delete the Ubuntu partition on HDD. You then add it as ext4 partition to store additional data.

    Thanks for the amazing tutorial! Just and question.. what will happen incase I update windows, or some BIOS update from my windows dell provider. Will it remain as it is?

    • @Itsfoss
      @Itsfoss  11 місяців тому

      Usually, yes. In some rare cases, Windows becomes default again. In that case, you can go into the BIOS settings and boot into Linux and then update grub. But that doesn't happen often.

      You may remove the Ubuntu from HDD first and then install it again on SSD.

    I just want to install the linux in my hdd. Cause I don't want to interfere in Windows boot which is installed on ssd.
    Can I completely install linux in the hdd and can change linux distro later without interfering Windows partitions in ssd?

      Sure you can do that.
