    "Fire Fire" Lyrics
Music and Lyrics by David Michael Bennett
    Hope I can make it
    Stop it and break it
The doors are all locked down
    I'm flying on my feet
    gotta reach that corridor
    Sirens are blaring
    Screams from the staring
    as they watch him cry
He's holding on as he's ripped from the room
engulfed in flames, but they'll be out soon
Oh it's such a shame, of all the things to go wrong while out in space
Fire, fire burns much brighter when oxygen is the supplier
Fire, fire is killing his desire to not be cold as he expire
    Oh, burning in space
    Oh, burning in space
I wake with a cold sweat
    how could I forget
    I've seen this all before
The red lights are spinning now
'round and 'round as I hit ground
    Warnings of pure dread
    heard on the overhead
    in a monotonic tone
There are men and women trapped in that room
flames scorching them, but they'll be out soon
Oh it's such a shame, of all the things to go wrong while out in space
Fire, fire burns much brighter when oxygen is the supplier
Fire, fire is killing their desire to not be cold as they expire
    Oh, burning in space
    Oh, burning in space
Fire, fire burns much brighter when oxygen is the supplier
Fire, fire has killed their desire to not be cold as they expire
Fire, fire burns much brighter when oxygen is the supplier
Fire, fire has killed their desire to not be cold as they expire

@Shi No Tenshi i think that is the delivery, lass mich raus, desert rose, two other examples, lass mich raus uses birth as a conveyor for its message of escaping abusive situations, to what i can gather, desert rose uses belly dancers and perfume for its message or lost love and longing

Not to be a party pooper but it reads "There are men and women trapped in that room flames scorching them, but they'll be out soon"
I think its a man/boy trying to get into an escape pod as the ship explodes.
"He's holding on as he's ripped from the room
engulfed in flames, but they'll be out soon"
Is the man/boy holding on to the door handle/valve as hes being torn into space
"I wake with a cold sweat
      how could I forget
      I've seen this all before"
"The red lights are spinning now
'round and 'round as I hit ground"
Is the escape pod ejecting from the ship, as it leaves abruptly the pod itself is spinning from an explosion.
"There are men and women trapped in that room
flames scorching them, but they'll be out soon"
Is about the image of those that didn't make it into the pod.

Well I like to think it's a guy who's part of a Damage Control unit, forced to vent atmosphere in rooms which have ignited, and the people in them. "He's holding on, as he's ripped from the room" is a line that I take to mean a man who's grasping for a handhold as the room is exposed to vacuum to put out a fire.

I wonder how many people realize just how melancholic a song this is.
"Fire fire has killed their desire to not be cold as they expire"
    "Screams from the staring"
"Flames scorching them though they'll be out soon"
These are not simply metaphorical. This describes people being jettisoned into space via their ship's airlocks after being set aflame during a terrifying accident. I can not deny how absolutely beautiful the song is; each note exceedingly well placed, how well the song was executed, all that is awe inspiring. As is the imagery. It's so vivid... the description invokes a feeling of consternation, a wish you could jump in there and save the people's lives. But... we can't... when I first realized all this, I was nearly driven to tears. Thank you, SPG. Thank you so much. I don't know what I would ever do without your magnificent tales and tunes. I might resort to trying to make such things myself, despite not having anything more than raw talent and only the most basic of training... I could never thank you enough, simply for being who you are and doing what you do.

I have never seen any crowd so happy, eager, and polite. And somehow, despite the number of bodies in the room, it didn't feel crowded to me.

The story behind this is that they've taken a spin on the tradition of steam punk. In the Victorian age and industrial age children and women worked in factories, they were locked in in order to not take breaks or leave the conditions. In some instances, a fire would burn everything, along with the women and children locked inside, they take this piece of culture and apply it to an example of space as a resemblance of the future. 'They'll be out soon' refers to the flames being put out right before bodybags with the remnants, infamously photographed came out of the factories..

The song is very obviously about a space station that is on fire. The one line that throughs your theory out of the window is "There ware MEN and women trapped in that room" not women and children. Also the constant talk about gravity and space.

Not many bands can pull off such great performances as Steam Powered Giraffe can, nor can they upgrade (Heh, heh...) their older songs the way that those fellas can.
