Nice video thanks for putting this together. VVR is actually Vermillion Valley Resort not Ranch. When doing the PCT and completing all of the Sierra, VVR was my favorite stop in the entire Sierra. Independence was great too but as you know not fun having to hike over Kearsarge both ways. Now that I’m done with the PCT I’m doing the JMT this summer at a more enjoyable pace, not the thru hiker big mile pace lol. Hopefully will be much more enjoyable. Thanks again

I always get the VVR thing confused! LOL. Doing the JMT at your won pace is the best way to do it if you have that luxury like we did. Each night we would look at the map and plan our next day. Mostly around water where we thought their would be good fishing. Some days we were done by 2 p.m. LOL. it was soooo nice to do it that way.

Thanks for the informative video! So when you resupplied at onion valley/lone pine and took a zero day there, what did you do the next day? Did you hike back up kearsarge pass and continue on to Glen pass the same day or did you camp at the base of Glen pass and do it the next day? I’m working on my itinerary and I’m kinda stumped on how to go about this, thank you!

Thanks for the great question! We set up a pre light pickup in Lone Pine with Loan Pine Kurt and he took us back to the OV trailhead for an early morning start (just around sun up). We did the early morning start so we could do both Kearsarge and Glen in the same day.

@@juanbackpacks ah okay that makes sense because I was also unsure if it was worth it to hike back up keararge the same day I resupply (given my dad is dropping off food for me at onion valley) but it sounds like it’s more sensible to just hike back up the next day.

Thank you! Did you fly or drive in? How did that part work -- such as arrival, return, and acclimatization days?

We acclimated for two days in mammoth then almost a full day at the cottonwood trailhead. We flew into Reno then rented a one way car. We had the car in mammoth then drove to Bishop dropped off the car then used a private shuttle to the trailhead. I made the car rental reservation almost 6 months ahead of time. Since the one way rental prices are rediculous. We used the buses the next year when we did the High Sierra trail because now one way rentals are too expensive. Maybe it will change in the future.

@@juanbackpacks Thank you. That’s useful. I’m also thinking of acclimating three days in Mammoth Lakes, then taking a YARTS to Yosemite Valley and hiking SOBO. Thinking I’ll fly in and out of Mammoth Lakes.

@@StamfordBridge We would have flown into mammoth probably depending pricing but the airport was closed because we did the trail in 2021 at the trail end of COVID.

That’s a good idea to use Yarts… we were going NOBO so our logistics were a little more complicated.

@@juanbackpacks I see. Yeah, I haven’t yet peeked at prices for a flight to such a small airport. I’ll brace for it and look if/when I win a permit in the lottery.

Awesome video, thanks for sharing this information. I saw you did your first resupply in Independence, then you stayed in Lone Pine. I think you said you hitched to Independence, did you then hitch to Lone Pine or is there a better way to get there? Thanks, there are way more stay options at better prices in Lone Pine and it looks like a better place for a zero.

I feel like it is a better place for a zero. We set up a ride with Lone Pine Curt from our hotel in LP to the trailhead.
